Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
Hi,
?
Have you read the QY70 FAQ file?
Location: ?
?
Muting is discussed on pages 14 and 15.
?
There are definitely other ways to accomplish it I believe, I honestly can’t remember how I did it on the Novation SL MKII templates, but I’m pretty sure I followed the advice of the FAQ above.
?
Cheers,
Eric

Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
Some people may ask me how I come to be using the qy70 at this point in history.
Well I owned a qy20 since they were first released, and made great use of it for a long time.?
I once devoted the whole machine to one composition (memory constraints) and it worked fine. Gee I wonder what happened to that?
Anyway, as you can see, I was starting to run into limitations, so started to look into the tasty successors to the '20 and settled on the qy70.
I couldnt get one in Australia, so I found an agent in Japan who spoke English and knew musical electronic devices. Very smooth business.
I think I originally got Japanese manuals, but the English translations I found to be almost as inpenetrable.
Despite my advantage of being quite skilled at the qy20 interface, I was daunted by the '70 UI.?
So gradually I put the '70 down, and there she stayed for a long time.
?
Now, in building my busking kit, I'd like to add some decent beats allied with some tasteful bass accompaniement.
Seems like the perfect job for the qy70? Right? Except, I'd forgotten about the immutability problem which I'd encountered way back before.
Oh well, I'll bang my head on a few proposed solutions (SysEx track volume message, or copying styles (patterns?) to User) before considering abandoning the old QY again, and moving onto some other form of accompaniment technology. |
Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
Perhaps a little more about my busking setup might help understanding.
My busking setup is portable, meaning everything is a one lift carry. I've got to consider the wisdom of carrying and maintaining another box for the sake of muting a couple of tracks.
I would not "Perform" as such with a controller, it would simply be a track muter to me. My performance is on guitar and I am dedicated to playing it between start and stop of any sequencer. Anything else is an unwanted distraction.?
?
If I cant get the QY to do what I want, I have access to a DAW, and have created hundreds of .mid 's. Some sort of midi (and/or mp3) player would be required - they seem to be about. I am not happy about using a phone regularly on the street.
So I have options, but they dont match the convenience or the flexibility of the QY. Wish me luck.

Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
your best option is probably to get a novation remoteSL mk1 and use Eric's midi template set, rather than spending months with a lesser DIY solution. then copy the factory phrases to user Styles. you could modify and make your own cutdown edits of the novation templates to suit your purposes.
?
these templates cover both eventualities of sysex and midiCC for a lot of things, and you'll be able to observe the differences in use.
- broadly, sysex is 'set' (starting values), and midiCC is 'modify' (and resets to original values) -
the RemoteSL can be either the 'Zero' controller-only box, or the keyboard versions, 25SL, 37SL, 61SL, and has USB or DIN midi. can be found nice'n'cheap. 25SL isn't a bad option, if you want the joystick and XY pad, and still quite small and portable - should fit inside a rack box. and of course, there's the very good Remote editor software, you don't have to doing much/any programming on the unit. (plus, you can use it for any midi device) |

"Part 4 ARDUINO MIDI CC TO SYSEX YAMAHA QY70 CONTROLLER KEYBOARD AXIOM PRO 61 EVENT PROCESSOR"Sorry about the bold - cant seem to turn it off. Above is the title of a Utube video uploaded by Tech Tinkering. Very interesting in general, but a short quote from the intro:-

"The track mixer on the qy70 is notorious for being awkward to mute/unmute"
?
Man, you can say that again.

Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
It appears that my use of chord templates is just a coincidence. It seems that when preset Styles are used in Song mode, tracks C1-C4 (21-24) are unmutable in song play, although they can be muted in pattern play. Could somebody authoritatively confirm that this is the case for a qy70? Am I missing some step to make a pattern track change persist into song play?
?
I appreciate that I might be able to achieve my? objective using a (series of?) SysEx message at the head of the song. Could somebody point me towards a step by step description of how to do this.
?
Another potential strategy is to copy the styles I wish to use to user styles and mute or otherwise silence the tracks I dont want. This is a clunky solution which I may pursue as a last resort.
?
I have read the User Manual cover to twice - once skimmed, once studied. I cant claim it has all stuck. I have skimmed through the archives, and studied those threads which seemed remotely relevant - I cant say absolutely all of that has stuck either, but hopefully I know my way around. |
Re: Getting a guitar and just want to know what cable I should use for the QY100
开云体育The effects are ok and the amp simulators are very basic. In my opinion, the K100 instrument input is best intended for practicing purposes, I’ve used mine to plug-in and practice bass anywhere with some quick arrangement and or chord progressions. It is not supposed to gig and take it on stage. IMHO. But maybe it can do what you need ? No dia 21/02/2025, às 23:53, Steve via groups.io <gerringonghitech@...> escreveu:

Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
Thanks Jay.
I am trying to find an alternative to my smartphone, which carries an extensive list of original mp3 backing tracks.
I'll keep the Novation Zero XL (or is it SL?) template in mind. I'm looking for a simple solution within the qy70 that appears to be at hand but remains elusive.
I believe that a SysEx message (or is it a CC?) embedded in the song will suit my purposes, but I wouldnt know where to start. I would prefer a solution within the UI of the qy70, if you get my drift.
?
It is possible that I came to the group a little early. I am still searching and discovering. But, every assistance is appreciated.

Re: QY70 Performance Accompaniment
As far as hardware goes: perhaps ?a Bluetooth midi dongle ( sounds Australian right?) with a smartphone and a BlueBoard wireless foot switch. ?
?
Could copy the midi controller data from the very thorough Novation Zero XL ?template. ?As far as I recall it provides a full set of mutes. |
QY70 Performance Accompaniment
Hi All,
Steve here. Long time amateur and small time semi-pro musician. I play guitars, keys and some winds with varying success, and I also sometimes sing.
I am trying to put together a set of backing tracks for a for a portable "busking" setup. The flexibility and power to weight ratio of the QY70 seems perfect for the job.
?
I am looking for drums and bass only. This is important to give me the maximum scope for improvising over the top, whilst still giving me recognisable support of structure, rhythm and key.
It is important to me that, in performance, I need to do as little as possible in order to setup and and kick off each song. Selecting a song number is mandatory, adjusting tempo or key is tolerable where necessary. Any more steps than these will swiftly become a burden.
?
In terms of developing the songs themselves, I am still interested in maximum efficiency/minimum steps to achieve my goal, although I can handle some one time pain if necessary for best result. Therefore, it would suit me if I could make use of the Chord Template functionality, in the first instance and perhaps permanently. And it comes so close to satisfying my needs. The issue is the I cant mute or otherwise silence tracks C1-C4 (21-24) from song playback. It certainly looks as though it should, but those chords etc just persist. Am I missing or misunderstanding something here? If I absolutely need to insert a Sysex message, can somebody please point me towards some hand holding assistance that may have been previously given (anywhere).
?
Any help is welcome. I'm over here in Australia, so time differences can delay responses. Patience is a virtue (I tell myself). |
Re: Connecting QY100 to Computer Via USB to Serial Adapter?
I have a QY70, and a TIE Midi-to-USB adapter cable. I manage to transfer files between my (old) desktop computer with WinXP using the QY data filer. However, when I try to connect the QY70 to a virtual WinXP installation,? it says "Now confirming the connection", but then I get the message "The list cannot be properly received", and if I click again o the "Ctrl"-button in the Data Filer program,? it says "Data transfer failed. Confirm QY70 connections(HOST SELECT switch, etc.)." If I push a key on the QY70, the "Now Bulk Mode"-Window shows up. So it might have to do something with the WinXP-Installation or -Configuration in the virtual environment (I am using QEMU/KVM on a Debian/based Linux laptop). I found other people had similar problems back in the days with WinXP (non virtual, I suppose), but no definitive solution was given in the corresponding posts, e.g. Maybe someone here has an idea how to overcome this? At a certain point, the desktop computer with WinXP may die, and then being able to use the QY70 with the virtual WinXP would be the ony way to transfer files. Thanks, Stefan |
Re: New post same problems :(
Probably the best way to make all the pieces play nicely together, is through process of elimination—
Narrow it down to the fewest possible points of failure.
This is how I would approach it:
1:
Make sure you know how to send midi data to the QY from Live at all, separate from thinking about sending it via the controller. Trying to send notes to it from a MIDI clip would be the easiest way. If that's not working, then nothing else will.?
2:
Once you have successfully sent MIDI data to the device, turn off the QY and just focus on ensuring that your controller is sending data into Live properly.
An easy way to test that, is load in one of the built-in synths onto a track, Operator for example. Then right-click with your cursor over the Volume knob on that synth and select 'Edit MIDI Map'. Lots of UI elements will now have a color overlaid on them and the MIDI Mappings panel will open on the left. Just move one of the faders on the nanokontrol. If Live detected the input, a new list entry will appear in the Mappings panel, showing the CC# and the assigned control. If that worked, delete the mapping and hit escape to leave the mapping mode, but if it didn't work, then you'll know there's an issue with your controller setup.
3:
If both of those things worked, and the CC# that Live registered was what you had intended (based on your assignments in the Kontrol Editor software), then it must be simply be an issue of correctly setting the controller as the MIDI input to a track and setting the MIDI output of that same track to point to the QY, then arming the track, so the MIDI will get passed through it when you move the faders.
?
Apologies if I missed part of this saga and you've already confirmed one of these aspects to be working, hope it helps!

Re: New post same problems :(
general question about maintaining the health of the QY100. I am using a 12 volt audio technica ac cable to power my QY100 (its the same power cord that powered my AT-LP120) I got my QY100 used without a powercord, and it does work with this power cord but I am a little worried I might be damaging it... |
