Chord Pack: CHRDPK01 – QY100 Style File

Made this handy Chord Pack for the QY100, consisting of eight tracks. They've been separated into right-hand and left-hand sections, including chord inversions. Mix and match them to build up your own song. An example song can be previewed at the link:

Starter Template: FORTUNE – QY100 Style File (From the SNES game The Legend of the Mystical Ninja)

I reinterpreted a MIDI loop into a?.Q1P?style file for the QY100. The loop is from a SNES game? The Legend of the Mystical Ninja. This song was originally created by?Konami Kukeiha Club?and then sequenced into MIDI by?The Jade Emporer?(over at?).

The style file is free to download for educational purposes only:?

I apologize, I didn't have enough time tonight to record an audio preview but will try to do that sometime next week. It's a very fun loop so I wanted to share immediately.

Get involved with the QY100 Spotify Playlist (Submit your music!)

I'm trying to build a Spotify playlist which specifically showcases music made with the QY100.?If you have music which you'd like me to add just let me know.

If you've never released music on Spotify, this is a reminder that it only costs $1 per album if you use sites like?soundrop?to launch your music. I'm not affiliated with soundrop, that's just the cheapest most accessible means of distributing music to platforms that I'm aware of.

Re: Patterns and Styles

No problem. Let me know once you have a chance to try them out. If there's anything you'd like me to attempt making, just let me know and I'll try.

Re: Patterns and Styles

Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you're doing to unlock more possibilities for the QY100. And the higher BPM samples sound awesome! I've bought a QY100 and I haven't really played around with it but your patterns are a big inspiration for me to get into it. Thanks again.

Re: Patterns and Styles

I realize this is an old thread... I am also building new styles and have a few made already. All available here: ?

Each of them have audio samples so you can listen to each before deciding whether to download.

More styles planned to release in future too at that link.

Got some audio examples now of songs utilizing high BPMs and recordings of the QY100 crashing: https://qy100.doffu.net/high-bpm-overclock-the-yamaha-qy100-with-these-custom-style-files/

Re: Which hidden QY100 feature would you like me to uncover next? #poll-notice

Looks like most people are interested in hidden patterns and chord structures, so I'll put more focus on releasing this content as things progress. The patterns should be easy... the chords aren't hard either but will require me to rig up something to 'listen' and interpret the proper naming of the chord structures.?

Stay tuned.

It is the beats per minute (or tempo) at which the QY100 plays back the sequence. The normal operating range of the QY100 is 25-300 BPM but can be extended beyond these limits with the supplied .Q1P files, effectively allowing you to fit more information into the same amount of space.

Doffs- Stupid question: What is BPM as it relates to the QYs? Thanks.

Initially I thought that the BPM of the QY100 was controlled by a single byte. It turns out it's actually controlled 2 bytes. This has led me to realize the BPM can be pushed much higher than originally thought. So far I've tested up to 1000BPM and it's functioning well. I will continue pushing higher in hopes of finding the upper limit. I already attempted hexadecimal FF FF (theoretically the highest value, equivalent to 65535BPM), however this value would not load into the device and resulted in a frozen load screen. So looks like I'll have to find the upper limit via trial and error.

Expect some .Q1P files soon allowing you to access high BPMs on your device.?

Will do. I should have time to record something in the next day or so. If you happen to have the proper equipment for loading up the .Q1P files, I've made a few available to download here. (SQUEEK'M.Q1P and SQUEEK'R.Q1P).

I would describe the sound as more frame-like and dense as the QY100 is executing the samples at an overclocked rate. I ran a quick test and getting a sustained tone is somewhat possible but it's a bit of a balancing act as packing too many notes in the project will cause the device to freeze, requiring a reset.

I can now see the device being capable of making music that would fall into the Noise and Drone genres. I had a pretty nice sound texture going before I crashed the device.

Even crashing the device can be interesting in it's own way. When the display freezes, the audio ends up melding together in unexpected ways and playing out indefinitely. So, I've been doing this on purpose a little as it can result in some beautiful soundscapes. I'll try and capture one of these crashes too and share it.?

Sounds so cool, if you have some audio examples I’m sure I’m not the only one interested in hearing. I imagine at very high bpms you can cross the threshold of hearing individual notes and it sounds more like sustained tones in a modular-FM kinda way?

So I've spent the past few hours crashing the sequencer on purpose to create some droning glitchy soundscapes.?
