Re: New post same problems :(

the mapping for the nanokontrol is easy it seems but because im new to this hobby I have no idea why the two arent communicating. hence my frustration and spam XD
but thank you for the first point I will try to look deeply into this so thank you THANK YOU

Re: New post same problems :(

1/ figure out how to send midi and midiCCs onwards thru abelton to a hardware device
(read manual, ignore the nanocontrol, use something else)
2/ read the manual for your nanocontrol2, to figure out how to put it in CC mode and assign CC numbers to the controls.
it probably can't do enough midiCCs for the whole of the QY, and you'd be better off with something like the RemoteSL, which does already have a QY mapping made for it (not aware of anyone else having mapped a controller to QY).
?
nobody here is attempting to do what you're wanting to do. i have a nanocontrol here but want to get rid of it, as the drivers just messed up my computer more, and i'm not going to attempt it again. the Novation has 40 pages to store templates to. doubt you can do that with the korg.
?
the nanocontrol is really intended to be used with DAWs and plugins and assigned on the fly, i think. but it can send midiCCs too. thing is, you can't set up multipage edit templates with it by the look of things.
?
the other way would be to have/make a VST plugin editor for the QY, sending out necessary messages, and you assign the nanocontrol with midilearn as and when you need it. wouldn't be my go-to solution - but that's probably how you use it now with plugin synths?

Re: New post same problems :(

damn ig you're right cause its either the manual here or nowhere since I cannot get a good answer about how to get this thing working in ableton >:(

Well, anyone who knows ANY device inside and out has read the manuals. 200 is not much, and it’s well written!

I did even study the midi implementation, which is way better than the QY700.

I recommend a Novation Remote SL MKII (comes in 24, 36, 48, and 60 key versions I believe). Not the best windiws editor, but handles mist sysex like a champ. ?Bank/patch are the only thing that us difficult as that is truly a 2 part sysex message and the program concontrol change sends ob one ( as memory serves).

Hi I have a Novation Zero SL MKii controller mapping that I downloaded for the QY100 that does all this. ?Can’t find the link at the moment so you’ll have to find it yourself. ?But you could use that as a resource to copy the parameters you want. ?

?

Parameter control is achieved using MIDI SYSEX commands. ? These are special messages that carry generic data. ?The format and command list is in the link below, found in the files section of this forum. ?You’ll have to learn a bit about sysex and your controllers capabilities. ?Have fun!

?

it seems you have some basic questions about midi routing and so on. ?This is all well described on YouTube videos and other posts about midi and and a search engine will serve you better than forum posts on an obscure but awesome ?piece of hardware.

?

good luck.

Not to be rude or avoiding the question, but I think reading the manual is a must. It should specify what you need (TS).

New post same problems :(

Hi everyone hope you are well. Last week was alot for me but im back trying to get the QY100 working with my midi controller :D
just to summarize my problem, I have a Korg nanoKONTROL2 that I have plugged into my pc. I have the software for it installed and im running ableton as my DAW. Im just trying to be able to change the envelopes and parameters of the samples in the QY100 with the nanoKONTROL2...
Sorry if this post is spam or bloat, I dont mean for it to be I just want this fixed and figured a new thread might simplify some issues...
?
also if anyone has their QY100 plugged into a Scarlett solo do you ever get white noise in your mix? its really annoying. Might just be a cable though...

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

Again thank you all for the comment and the help. I love you all for your assistance but im still in the same place :(((
if anyone knows ableton please let me know because I think my midi settings must be wrong there...

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

Edited

That's all really good advice.

The only thing I'll add is that there is some important differences between using Song Mode and Pattern Mode depending on your use case. Song Mode has more MIDI channels (1-16... or was it 1-24 or 32??? I can't recall right now), half of which are reserved for accompaniment. There are special save features for accompaniments as they can be saved and exported/imported as .MID files using the SM Card. There is also the ability to shift the tempo over the course of the song, and bring in patterns and transpose them as the song progresses.

Pattern Mode is probably easier to work in and is intended for building patterns that will later be laid out in Song Mode (however I tend to use it exclusively for my own songs and I'm exporting everything to a DAW in most cases). Pattern Mode has an additional MIDI setting which is important... The PATT OUT CH is used to remap the pattern's output MIDI channels to be 1~8, or 9~16. Another special thing to note about Pattern Mode is that the MIDI channels are set to non-standard channels beginning at 17 and ending on 24. This is important as assigning certain parameters require you to specify a MIDI channel. You will not use the standard 1-16 channels, you will use 17-24, 17 being the top-most track, 24 being the bottom-most track.

Here's an image of what the MIDI settings menu looks like. MIDI SYNC sets whether you want to use and internal or external clock to set the tempo. MIDI CONTROL shoulc be turned to In/Out (assuming you want control to go both ways). XG PARM OUT should be On (if you want XG to be sent out through MIDI).

May be an image of text

Easiest way to check if MIDI CC is being recorded into the device would be to go to the EDIT MODE menu and look if anything was recorded into there on the specified track.

Another resource you could use if you have USB to MIDI is my MIDI LFO webtool, which allows you to connect your device and send MIDI CC to it: I posted a video showing how it works on the Facebook page: ?

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

those are not your midi settings.
?
your nanokontrol - is it mk2? - has 2 modes: DAW and MIDI CC. checked the manual for you
and it isn't much help. doesn't say anywhere how you change the controller CC numbers.
DAW mode addresses controls in your DAW and in plugins
?
are you on PC? if so download and install midiox and use it to read out what the nanokontrol sends over MIDI (once you followed instructions to set it to send midiCCs)
?
do you have a usb-midi thing so you can send midi notes to the QY and sequence it? have you been able to do that from your DAW?
?
then check the QY manual and find out what midiCCs are received.
?
Pattern mode is fine, use that, it's the same for this as Song mode.
?
try to draw the midi cc you want in your DAW (as you would with a modulation curve, or velocity), without the nanokontrol, to check that it responds to the CC messages.
?
after that, you have to figure out how to send the CCs through your DAW in real time to the QY. look for 'midi thru'.

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

1. this is where I show my ignorance for this machine. Im not sure which mode, song or pattern, would be better...
2. there is an external instrument plug in you can add but I can only get the midi data and no audio
3. I suppose I would like to be able to kind of jam on the QY and record what I make live into my DAW. Thought I really want to learn about using the QY100 the way it was meant to be used...
?

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

Could you upload/link a picture showing your MIDI settings on the QY100? Also are you planning to work in pattern mode or song mode?

As for Ableton, I'm not familiar but in my own DAW when I record external MIDI it won't sound like anything because it needs a software synth or external synth assigned to it. I can either assign a software synth for tweaking in the DAW or I can send the recorded MIDI back out to an external synth to get my sound.

Typically, I've found a good workflow is to compose patterns on the QY100, then output each track's MIDI to my DAW, then apply new soft synths to the MIDI for a more modern sound. Sometimes I like the sounds right from the QY100, so I'll just record them in as audio.

Re: Trying to get my QY100 working in my DAW

Hi everyone hope everyone is well...
thanks to everyone who has posted so far, but im still having these issues. I just figured I would make a comment simplifying the issues because I made it too complicated...
problem 1 - I need the Korg nanoKONTROL (a midi controller) to be able to alter the envelopes and any parameters of any sound im working with at a given time in the QY100
?
problem 2 - I would like to be able to find a way to edit the midi data that I play with the QY100 on a midi track in Ableton and be able to hear whatever sample or audio that im working with (since right now in grid mode al that happens is the midi data is recorded but there is no audio anywhere (I know audio isnt sent in midi))
?
once again thank you all so so SO much for your help and loving the QY100 enough to make this community. Ive you all will have me I would love to stay here and celebrate this awesome machine :D

Re: how do you all send midi program change/bank select messages to your gear from your QY?

Hmm... I have QY70 and QY700 and wondering the same thing.
?
How can we send Program Changes in realtime over MIDI out for auditioning sounds?
?
I understand using EDIT to insert Program Change messages. It works, but way too clunky. When cycling through sounds on the Voice Edit page, no Program Change is sent.? Is there any way around this limitation?
?
The Yamaha CBX-K1 MIDI keyboard, for example, will send PC with one of the special shift-key operations.?
