Dial indicator crystals (new rabbit hole for me!)
30
Hello all, First off, I apologize for any cross posts. Lately, I’ve been fixing a few “parts only” dial and dial test indicators that I picked up on eBay. I’m thinking about getting some 1/25” clear acrylic sheet and making some nice new dial crystals. Anyone ever worked with acrylic sheet? Is this something I’d knock out with a punch and die setup? I did see one guy on YouTube make his dial crystal on a lathe. Clamped the acrylic sheet between two silicone rubber pads and turned the O.D. The Mitutoyo crystals have a beveled edge, so maybe the lathe is the way to go. Thoughts and comments from the the collective group brain power please! Thanks, George H. Meinschein, P.E. Modern 3/8" Chucks
10
Good afternoon everyone, All our employees have a bench lathe with either a Jacobs 11N or 2A chuck, with a soft back for drilling a through hole. Has anyone recently bought a new 3/8" chuck they are completely happy with? I don't think keyless are an option. Ours are all very old, and most are not holding well. Long time ago I bought a few new ones. "Made in China." The run-out was bad, and i returned them. I look forward to hearing your experiences. Thank you, Payson.

141/2" 1940s Southbend lathe
32
Hi, Just joined the group. Martyn is the name . We have an old Southbend lathe, 14 1/2" swing 7ft bed, I believe to be 1940s, with quick change gearbox. This is in our workshop used for all manor of things related to the motor trade. We build engines, race prep etc. We are in the UK by the way. We are in need of a new flat belt for the south bend 1 3/8" wide and 69-70" long. Where would we get one of these and the joiner for it? Ours is currently joined with cable ties....yes I know...not the best way, but it works. Is there anywhere in the Uk that supplies these or would it be just US? Any help from UK or US Southbend users would be appreciated. Martyn

Includes 3 and 4 jaw chucks, steady and follow rests, taper attachment, metric transposing gears, Jacobs rubberflex collet chuck, large faceplate, various centers and numerous tool holders. 208V 3 phase. Photo shows lathe in shop trailer but it has since been removed. Additional photos available. Located in Columbia, SC, $5000.

Small Tool and Die Shop Liquidation
17
Hi all, I have been lurking for a while.. I have a dilemma. I need to liquidate the machinery from my Dad's small tool and die shop. Most of it is Late 70's to early 80's. It was all purchased new and well cared for. The biggest problem is they have been sitting for 20 years, so they have collected some surface rust that needs to be cleaned off. I am in Western New York. Does anyone have any ideas where I can best sell the machines? Thanks Roger

ACME threads
17
Hello all, I hope everyone had a great holiday, I have an old vise I am trying to restore, it is a small vise, and it is missing a t type nut internally and I have to tap a new one. I have not cut an ACME thread since high school over 50 years ago. This thread is 6 per inch and the diameter is 1/2 inch. I am at a total loss as to what to do and from what I have seen 6 TPI is not standard either. I need all the help I can get on this. Thank you, Stoeger
