Grizzly Mill DRO Questions
any of you folks have one of these Mills , their sold buy all the
usual suspects . gclid=Cj0KCQiA3uGqBhDdARIsAFeJ5r1mMqXY7Zk9br2zA8mAP0Wjrc-a8bLVekjt8w3n-tcupz8j6lkcCc8aAhkhEALw_wcB ??? I'm looking to see if anyone has put a DRO on one of these & what length scales they got with the DRO ??? thanks ??? animal |
I just put a DRO on my new Precision Matthews 932M (9" x 32" 1.5 hp) which is a similar size to yours, and I used a standard 16" scale on the y-axis and cut down a larger one to 27" for the x-axis. Well worth the effort to have the DRO, so don't change your mind.? If unsure of the size of the scales call or email the manufacturer of the DRO. Capt. Art

I used iGaging DROs and built my own mounts with decent swarf shields and they’ve been working great for at least 10 years. They can be hacksawed to any length… and they’re cheap. Companies that make the fancy ones usually offer sets sized for various drill-mills. Have you checked Grizzly? You might join the drill-mill group and ask there. It used to be a Yahoo group like this one and unfortunately all the nice photos and stuff disappeared. But some of the same guys are there and will likely give you some advice.?/g/Drillmill

I have the Clausing version. Buy scales that are longer than the travel distance for each direction. The scales can be shortened (even glass scales). I bought a Chicom kit sold on Ebay by 200 different sellers. The scales were glass. It took some time to disassemble the scales and cut them, but it was not that hard to do. I did not use the included mounting hardware preferring to make my own for a better fit. It has been 3 years since the install and it works great. If you buy one, I can send you a manual that I found online, which is much better than the one written by the slave laborer for my kit.

开云体育It's been 3 years, but I believe I scored it with a diamond file and snapped it on a sharp edge. Could have used a glass cutter. Might have used a Dremel with a diamond cut-off wheel sold at Harbor Freight. On 11/20/2023 1:29 AM, Andrei wrote:

I've got a chop saw sitting under a plastic bag in the back yard. A DeWalt. Was designed for a carbide metal cutting blade but came to me with a 14" cutoff wheel. The correct blade costs more than I paid for the saw, but would probably shatter the glass in a DRO scale. IIRC you can get diamond blades that will cut metal, but I think they're even more expensive. If you show up on my doorstep I'll give it to you.? It works as is for cutting metal but it's too loud and sprays hot sparks everywhere. I used it once. Hosed down the grass behind it, and put the bag over it. I think even the grit disk is too percussive for a glass scale.? Must be nice to have $$ to buy stuff like he has in his shop. All pretty and new. :) Bill in OKC? William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) 开云体育??? The thing I noticed about this tube is that this looks like
it works great if yer just cutting a short amount from one end .
You will have access to be able to put the foam " damper? " in .
For a guy that ends up with a long one that the needs to cut in
half I'm not so sure that access is there . I have been inside of
a Mitutoyo doing a repair for a bud & with the wipers out
maybe , but the wipers are stiffer when their new I would think ,
I guess one of us will find out some day . That would be a question to ask him through youtube . I have been
unable to comment on any tubes for several months now . As soon as
I hit on the comment it automatically takes me back to my
previously screen . I have written to youtube about it but to no
surprise I have seen nothing back . I guess customer service &
tech support is for the folks that send $$ every month . animal
