3
HI folks: I have a kenwood ts-520s that I am interested in possibly tapping the IF off of to hook to a SDR dongle to make a pan-adapter -- what Im curious to know - is how hard of a project would this be, and -- is it safe? for me and the radio thanks TIM

Hello! New to the group, and already have a question
4
Hello. I am new to this group. I’ve been a ham since high school in 1969, and “tinker” with old radios, trying to bring them back to life. I am wondering if anyone has had success in finding a stock paint color that is a “close match” for older Kenwoods. I’ve used Testors Graphite Gray Metallic before on a TS-120 and a TS-440, but it’s not really close. Has anyone had more success in finding a good Kenwood gray? Tnx es 73, Francis WA4ZYN

TS-870 negative DC supply for the ALC
6
Some where on my internet travels I have seen information on replacing components of that DC to DC supply. The replacement cobbled up for the TS-850 has been very successful for me at least and rather than trying to figure one out for the TS-870, I thought I would ask.

Can't get my VS-3 Voice Synthesizer to work in my TS-2000X
Hello, I recently purchased a TS-2000X with a known defective serial port. I replaced the failed serial port driver chip and was able to communicate with the radio and update the firmware. A few days ago I located a VS-3 voice synthesizer module and installed it, but I couldn't get it to work. All that it did when pressing the PF key (programmed for VOICE1) was to produce a single beep. No voice whatsoever. I reset the radio, checked and rechecked the menu settings for PF assignment and voice level, but it still didn't work. I could program to PF key for other functions and the key worked as it should. I was able to return the VS-3, presuming it was defective, and got a brand new one, but it does exactly the same thing. The VS-3 connector looks fine, and every other function of the radio that I have tested is working. I do not have the DRU-3A voice recorder module installed (I understand that they share some of the same digital lines). Any ideas are very much appreciated! -- 73, Stan N6BYU

TS-770
Hi all, I have recently bought a TS-770 that appears to have a duff PLL chip. The chip is the SM6422A and is mounted on the X50-1530-00 PLL(A) board. I hear that these chips are quite hard to find, and with that in mind does anyone have an old 770 they are using for parts that may contain a board they are wiling to sell ? Failing that, does anyone know of a near equivalent (no necessarily pin-compatible) fro a different set, maybe a Yeasu similar VHF/UHF transceiver that may be used to do the job ? Anyone here using a TS-770 ? David. M1BZD

Kenwood TS-570S (Japanese version)
3
I have acquired a pristine, working TS-570S from Japan and see it has the power limit set to 50W. Does the service menu item 18 allow this to be set at the standard, 100W limit for USA? Thanks all! Dave NS8S

[Owner] [Kenwood-Amateur-Radio] TM-G707 problem
5
Every so often-too often-my G707 will do a full reset on power-up. It doesn't seem to be consistent, with things like voltage not being a factor that I've seen. I see nothing that says these radios have a backup battery of any kind. I don't even see one in the schematic anywhere, so it doesn't seem like that's it. Any body else got any ideas? It's weird. I know there is a button sequence that will wipe it, but I'm certainly not hitting that. Jim

Looking for an interconnect cable and PC board connectors for a TS-690S
10
I recently purchased a fairly well used TS-690S. In the process of tidying it up, I noticed that a previous owner had removed the connectors from the small coax cable that connects the RF board to the filter board and soldered the cable ends directly to the two-pin male connectors on each board. I have no idea why someone would do this, but regardless, I'd like to restore this radio to its original condition. Does anyone know where I can find a couple of the two-pin PC board connectors (Kenwood p/n E40-3237-05) and the interconnect cable (possibly Kenwood p/n E37-0227-05)? 73, Stan N6BYU

Kenwood hybrid cover pins
Hello Members, I hope this is okay for me to post. I have recently designed and printed the cover pins for the kenwood hybrid radios. I am offering them on eBay. I have never found another source for them. They are designed to be as close to original as possible. Here is the link if anyone is interested. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256448075658?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=66eg1gE7SBy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=66eg1gE7SBy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Jamie (N9TBE)

TS-450S received signal distortion after short warm uup

Has anyone had this happen, and found the culprit? PLL board? IF board source? The known filter cap that leaks on in the audio coupling has been replaced. Thanks, and this is a great group! Dave NS8S

TS-690S transmits on 6m but not on HF
18
I just picked up this TS-690S with a few known problems (mostly minor), including a broken 12 VDC power input connector shell. I found a replacement connector shell and swapped it in, but it required some disassembly to get to it. I carefully removed the connectors necessary to remove the output filter assembly, and reinstalled everything back to their proper locations. For testing I connected it to a dummy load and wattmeter. The radio powers up fine but transmits only on 6 meters. The power meter on the display stays at zero on the HF bands, and the VSWR meter does not move. Transmitting on 6 meters gives >50 W output. I have the antenna slide switch in the proper position. I have the PDF of the service manual but have only started to go through it. I was hoping that someone with more experience than I could point me in the right direction as far as troubleshooting, isolating the failure, and/or likely causes. 73, Stan N6BYU

Schematic

Maybe someone can help me. I can't think of anywhere else to ask so hope no one minds. I need a schematic for the Alinco DR-112. The main board. I only find a block diagram on line. Or if someone has a picture of the solder side. Greatly appreciated. Thanks and 73, Bob W4JFA

TS-450SAT
2
I recently acquired a very nice 450S at a Traverse City, MI swap. I began by having a classic problem with no audio, and traced it to the usual suspect audio coupling capacitor. That fixed the problem, and a week or so later while monitoring on 20 meters, the radio reception quit, with the CW UL "Unlock" signal. I pulled the board, and found a couple leaky capacitors on it. I checked the primary oscillator and was dead on 20.00000 mhz. I left the covers off to monitor the crystal frequency, and it played nicely for over 24 hours. I put the covers back on, placed the radio in the operating position, and felt it was fixed for good. An hour later, the dreaded "UL" cw code came on, and this time, powering the radio off, and back on after about 10 minutes, it played again for another hour. I suspect the crystal, or supporting elements around the crystal. Has anyone else seen this problem? What's the real fix?

Kenwood TH-D7 question
Someone I know is selling a Kenwood TH-D7 for $225 plus shipping. I have a few questions. First, is this model easy to program from the front panel, or is it almost a must that you program it using a computer and CHIRP or RT Systems software? Second, I see that it has a built-in TNC. I've never used packet radio or a TNC. Is that a feature that would be interesting to play around with, and is there software and an easy way to connect it with a computer running packet or other software? Third, should I offer less than this amount. I understand this is a fairly old model. It looks to be in good condition. I was thinking of offering $200 and the seller include shipping. But if it's not worth anywhere near that amount, then maybe it's something I can pass over. I don't need another HT. I have an Anytone, a Baofeng, and a much older Kenwood HT. Comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome. Thanks in advance!!! TS-870S serial number
7
Hi everyone I've just bought this radio in mint condition from a dealer and would like to know its year of manufacture. I contacted Kenwood support in the UK but they referred me back to the dealer, who is unable to help. The SN is 00100062. I found a source that said it's either 1999 or a factory refurb sold in 2002 or 2003. Anyone able to decode this for me please? -- Mike G8GYW
