New ham groups, also new pricing structure for groups
The next message is about some new groups I created to have a general-purpose discussion group for some brands of amateur radio equipment and radios before groups.io's new pricing structure goes into effect Jan 81, 2021. It is a long message, so I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I cross-posted it to all the groups I manage. I will be looking for moderators for the new groups and even some of the established groups, so if you're interested in helping, please email me privately about this. For the rest, please read my next post. It's a long and detailed one. Donald -- AD8DY Formerly KJ3I ---------------------------------------------------- Some ham radio groups you may be interested in: /g/ICOM /g/Ham-Antennas /g/HamRadioHelp /g/Baofeng /g/CHIRP https://rf-amplifiers.groups.io/g/main

New ham groups added, new groups.io pricing structure on Jan 18, 2021 (long post, intentionally cross-posted)
First, the new pricing structure for NEWLY formed groups on groups.io beginning January 18, 2021. Basic (free) groups formed on or after that date stay free *up to 100 members*. After that, it will need to be upgraded to a premium group. Premium groups ($220/year) are good up to 400 members, after which a per-member fee ($.05 per month or $0.55 per year) is added to the $220 per year premium group fee. That will bring a burden on some new groups, so I created some more ham groups that may grow, or flounder, but I wanted to beat the deadline so those groups will not be charged extra fees, or any fees, for that matter. If they take off and are useful, that will be great. If they flounder, I might just delete the group if members agree, or if there are no co-owners by the time I review whether the group is worth keeping. If you were thinking of creating a group for one of your interests, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO SO before the new pricing structure goes into effect. If you need help with that, email me *privately* and if I'm not overwhelmed with requests, I will try to help. You must be willing to assume group ownership as I will leave the group after creating it and you've been made a group owner. If you need help getting started with the group, I can hang around for a short while and direct you to documentation on how to run a group. As for the new groups I created last evening, I will list their web addresses below. Please contact me *privately* ONLY IF you are interested in joining one of these groups AND ARE UNABLE to use the join button on the web site or find the join process confusing. I would like to avoid what happened when Yahoo closed their groups and I offered to help people if they were unable to join themselves. I was overwhelmed with requests to help, and I'm sure not all of those were from people who had difficulty joining, so please give it a try yourself first. Go to the site and press the join button on the group(s) you are interested in. Follow the simple instructions and you will be approved. All new members will be moderated for a short time so don't expect to post immediately. There's only one moderator right now (me), and I work for a living, sleep at night, and take naps because of my health condition in late afternoons sometimes. I donate some of my time for community work, am a minister, and have to wisely use my time. But I don't want anyone to not join one of these groups because they find it difficult to join. YOU CAN JOIN ANY OF THESE GROUPS BY EMAIL by sending a message to the subscribe address. Take the web address name at the end of the URL and change it by adding [email protected] to it. For the FT-757 group (as an example): /g/FT-757GX Send an email to this address: [email protected] no body text is required in the message, just the address, but to make your email program happy, you can put the word subscribe in the subject and message fields. These new lists are email reflectors only with no storage (a change that was made almost a year ago by GIO's owner). If I had created them before February 2020, they would have storage. We will work something out for storage if the groups get large enough and have a need for that. I will need moderators for these new groups, and soon after they get on their feet, a co-owner who has some real interest and hopefully experience with these different brands of radios. Contact me off-list if you are interested in volunteering with any of these groups. I will help you out with anything you need to know about how to manage a group as a moderator or co-owner. I will list the NEW groups first, then list the other amateur radio groups I created. Note that most of these are not model-specific and are "general-purpose" groups for a BRAND of radio or a general-purpose group for a type of equipment. I did not create any group for which there already was a general-purpose discussion group for that brand of radio, like Drake and some others. I am not interested in amassing a lot of groups to manage. My purpose is just to see that interes

Filters, Feet, Knob, Cables and more FS
Crystal Filters, Extension Feet, Knob, Crystals, Cables, and more For Sale . Kenwood YK-88 C, 500 Hz CW Filter: This is the standard 500 Hz CW filter used in rigs such as the TS-430, TS-440, and others. It is the solder in type. This one works fine. It looks fine also, as if that matters for a filter inside the rig. With paper work for $79. . Kenwood YK-88 S Similar to above, except wide SSB. Fits same rigs. $79 . Kenwood "Extension Feet": This is a set of two feet that are often used on various Kenwood rigs to raise the front by about 1/2 inch to give a rig, speaker, remote VFO, etc. the tilt that makes it easier to read. This is a complete set of two front feet, with the needed hardware. $15 for the set. . Kenwood Heavy Duty Weighted Tuning Knob K-21: This knob is a special tuning knob, about 2 1/4 inches in diameter, so just right for most Kenwood rigs. It is weighted, so one can give it a spin, and it continues to go. This one looks perfect, and is still in its plastic bag. Only $80. . Crystals: I have a set of three crystals that are used to return the Kenwood Hybrid rigs to 10 meters, after they have had the original crystals changed to 11 meters. Specifically, they are HC-25 crystals for 33.50, 34.00, and 34.50 MHz. They are labeled as being for the TS-820, but I think all of the hybrids use the same frequencies. These crystals are $35 for the set of three. . Linear Amp Switching Cables for Kenwood Rigs: This cable goes from a Kenwood transceiver to a linear amplifier to switch the amp from transmit to receive. One end has a DIN connector, as is used with most Kenwood rigs. The other end has an RCA phono plug, as used by most linear amplifiers. Before using this cable, please check the switching capabilities of your transceiver, and the requirements of your amplifier. Cable for switching the T/R relay Only $15. Cable as above, but with ALC line in addition to T/R switching. $20 . I also have many other accessories available such as many different types of microphones, HTs, VHF and UHF rigs, HF and VHF/UHF antennas, connectors, miscellaneous accessories, etc. Just too many to list here. Please e-mail your requests. . Prices do not include shipping from Florida. Thanks. 73, Ken, W8EK Ken Simpson E-mail to W8EK@... or W8EK@... Voice Phone (352) 732-8400 . .

TS-440 parts available
I have parts for a Kenwood TS-440 available. Hopefully we can keep a couple units working and looking nice using these parts. The complete "back end" is available. This includes the finals and associated PC boards, the large heat sink, the power connector, and other parts on the back of the rig. The bottom cover (both parts) is presently available. It looks very nice, and might improve the looks of your rig. A complete set of knobs, less the large tuning knob, is available; they look very nice. The small little silver rectangular buttons are still available. Other internal PC boards are available as well. The automatic antenna tuner is NOT available. Please let me know what you need, and we can go from there. . It says "Electret Condenser Mic" on the back. Basically, this mic functions like an MC-43, with a couple more features. It has the mic and PTT switch; it also has up/down switches on the top. There are four "extra" buttons labeled Call, VFO, MR, and PF. What these four buttons do depends on the rig. There is also a "Lock" switch on the back. Regardless if you use the four extra buttons or not, you still have a mic that works like an MC-43. - This mic works fine, and looks like new. It probably came with a rig, and was immediately put in the drawer, and never used. Only $30 . need volunteer moderators
We're looking for another moderator or two. Any volunteers? There is no prerequisite knowledge needed of knowing how to operate a group here. With no additional moderators and my age/health, this group will cease to function properly if I get seriously sick or die. We can use a volunteer or two. There are only two of us now, and if the group becomes more active over time, this could be a concern for all of you.

Replace TS-440 uController with Raspberry Pi & few SIPO Chips?
Hi, I've been thinking about changing out the TS-440 two board controller with a Raspberry Pi and a few serial in-out /parallel in/out chips. There was fellow over on Yahooski who was reverse-engineering the TS-440 processor code. Anybody know him? I'd be interested to collaborate with him, put an graphics LCD and bring the transceiver up a bit. Doesn't hurt to ask. walt - km6oyh

Power Supply, Mic, Filter, and much more FS
Power Supply, Microphone, Filter, Mobile Bracket, Linear Amp T/R cables, Crystals and more For Sale: . Kenwood PS-430 Power Supply: The Kenwood PS-430 power supply provides 13.8 VDC at 20 Amps intermittent. Ripple voltage is less than 20 mV at 13.8 VDC and 15 A. Input is 120/220/240 VAC. This is a linear power supply, so no need to worry about noise from a switching supply. The rear panel has a hardwired Kenwood power cable (6 pin molex connector) to connect directly to the TS-120/130/140/430/440/450 and others. Actually it will work fine with any rig that uses the 6 pin molex plug, including Icom and Yaesu and others. There are also "plus" and "minus" terminal outputs (10 Amps max) on the back, useful for a VHf/UHF rig. A snap-down tilt bail is on the bottom panel to increase the operating angle. 6.8 x 3.75 x 9.675 inches 15.4 lbs. This one works like it should, with great output. Cosmetically it is average. Not exceptional like most of the gear I sell. With paper work for $100 . Kenwood MC-43 Hand Microphone: The Kenwood MC-43 is the standard hand microphone used with many, many Kenwood rigs. It has a round 8 pin connector and will work with most any Kenwood rig that takes this connector. The top of the mic has up/down buttons to change the frequency. This one works as it should, and looks fine. With paper work for only $35. . Kenwood MB-430 Mobile Bracket: The Kenwood MB-430 is the mobile bracket that is used to mount the Kenwood TS-430, TS-440, TS-450, R-5000 and maybe others. This one is in nice shape and includes the four screws (and washers) for attaching it to the rig. These are no longer made and are somewhat rare. Buy this one for $45. . Specifically, they are HC-25 crystals for 33.50, 34.00, and 34.50 MHz. They are labeled as being for the TS-820, but I think all of the hybrids use the same frequencies. These crystals are $35 for the set of three. . Kenwood Heavy Duty Weighted Tuning Knob: This knob is a special tuning knob, about 2 1/4 inches in diameter, so just right for most Kenwood rigs. It is weighted, so one can give it a spin, and it continues to go. This one looks perfect, and is still in its plastic bag. Only $80. . I have parts for a Kenwood TS-440 available. Hopefully we can keep a couple units working and looking nice using these parts. The complete "back end" is available. This includes the finals and associated PC boards, the large heat sink, the power connector, and other parts on the back of the rig. The rear part of the bottom cover is presently available. It looks very nice, and might improve the looks of your rig. The small little silver rectangular buttons are still available. The complete final module and heat sink assembly is available. The "IF" internal PC board is available as well. Most small PC boards, such as selectivity switch, mic jack, fron

I was a lousy CB repairman. 3
Back in the early '70s I discovered that CB repair was not a money maker for me. Had the second phone license for transmitter work but almost everyone wanted me to "tune" up their CB to make more power or modulation or off band frequencies. They even asked me to add FM modulation. I ended up selling a lot of microphones because the #1 most frequent problem was the wire at the plug. #2 was lousy and/or poorly tuned antenna and/or coax. #3 was ignition and/or alternator noise. They don't need an electronic tech for that, most installer guys could take care of that faster and cheaper than I could. For us, the 11 meter mod has always been repairing a butchered ham radio to work properly on 10 meters again. The people who think they need those mods are not evil, they simply don't understand that CB is on a frequency that has serious propagation limitations that make reliable long range communications impossible no matter how much power their CB radio makes. Selling in the group
Selling is allowed in this group for ham radio equipment only, and at least one of the items for sale must be related to the purpose of the group. We require that anything being sold here have a price with it. So "make offer" or anything like that will not be an acceptable post here. Please indicate if shipping is included, otherwise leave it out. Also, please indicate the general location of the equipment for sale, so others will know if it’s within driving distance for them, and if you're willing to meet someone X miles away from that location. If you have any information about the item, please add it, as it will make it more likely that it will sell. Just list similar to the following. This was a suggestion for the SWAN-AMATEUR-RADIO group. Just replace the Swan item with one that would fit the purpose of this group: Swan 350D, great cosmetic condition, may need new final tubes since output drops somewhat on 15 and 10 meters. Model 117XC AC power supply included. Asking $325.00 OBO. Located near Charlotte, NC. Will drive up to 25 miles from Charlotte for pickup or delivery. Call 444-444-4444, or email hamoperator@....
