Does the service menu item 18 allow this to be set at the standard, 100W limit for USA?Hopefully someone here has a way to get that radio to put out 100 watts. However, based on recent Icom radios purchased from the Japanese market at a lower price, then brought to the USA for use, those radios are hardwired so the frequencies and power limit for Japan can't be changed in firmware or hardware (by cutting diodes in a matrix). I hope that is not the case with the 590 you have, and your radio is older than the ones I've seen being discussed recently in Icom forums, so maybe it can be changed. The other thing I'll mention is that your final transistors may be only able to handle 50 watts. You might check the transistors called out in schematics for both the Japanese and the USA models to see if they use the same transistors. If all you want to do is to change the output power, and if the output transistors are the same in radios for both markets, you might be able to rework the driver and/or output stage to put out more power. It might be something as simple as changing some resistors.
