Looking for an interconnect cable and PC board connectors for a TS-690S
I recently purchased a fairly well used TS-690S. In the process of tidying it up, I noticed that a previous owner had removed the connectors from the small coax cable that connects the RF board to the filter board and soldered the cable ends directly to the two-pin male connectors on each board. I have no idea why someone would do this, but regardless, I'd like to restore this radio to its original condition. Stan N6BYU |
Someone probably had a bad cable and couldn't find a replacement so they soldered in a small coax to get the radio working. Bob? W4JFA On Thu, Mar 14, 2024 at 12:49?AM Stan <swperk@...> wrote:

开云体育Not sure, but this may be what you are looking for. They are the connectors that are used in a Kenwood TS-930.Mike

Stan,
I know you're trying to make the radio the way it was from the factory, so this suggestion is only if you can't find the connectors you're looking for. If you don't find the connectors you're looking for, perhaps you could use SMA connectors, which are cheap and easy to source, as are pre-made cables with SMA connectors on them. They're small, and there should be PC board mount versions of the connectors. This would make it more professional looking. Of course, you could buy a TS-690S that's a basket case for a parts radio and use the connectors from it (or the boards with those connectors already on them). If you find one cheap enough, that might not be a bad choice, as you'll have some spare parts if you want to keep the radio working for many more years. Best wishes in your attempt to restore the radio to a better looking "OEM" look. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the real estate on the PC boards is too limited to mount SMA connectors directly to the boards. If I were to use SMA connectors, they would have to be mounted on pigtails and that would defeat the aesthetics I'm looking for. I found some small two-pin board mounted connectors that look extremely similar to the original Kenwood connectors, but are not absolutely identical. I connected the mating female connectors to each end of the coax cable and the whole setup looks almost exactly like the factory product. The only issue is that it is not exactly the same connector as all of the others, but unless someone is looking with a magnifying glass to check for originality, one can't tell the difference. Anyway, the radio is working fine, so I'm happy! 73, Stan N6BYU -----Original Message-----

Hi Stan,
? I think the connectors you may be looking for are the 'TMA' type and are available on eBay from various people.

开云体育Hi Phil, ? Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up TMA connectors and if what I found is correct, these are small coaxial connectors. What I am actually looking for is a two-pin inline connector. I’ve already found and installed a “close enough” substitute, so I’m content to leave things as they are. Short of cannibalizing a parts unit for the connectors and the interconnecting cable, I don’t think I will pursue this any further, since the radio is now working fine. ? 73, Stan N6BYU ?
