SM-220 two tone adjustment
2
I'm checking the performance of my newly acquired SM-220 and note that the levels of the two tone generator measured at TP1 and TP2 are 5.8V p-p which is nearly double the specified 3V. So I decided to adjust them but found this to be impossible because VR108 is inaccessible (under the CRT) and I can't see VR107 anywhere. My PCB doesn't match the drawing in the service manual. Any ideas please? -- Mike G8GYW

Kenwood SM-230 Station Monitor
22
In reviewing the specifications for the SM-230 I note the following: I am going to be operating a TS-850s with an Alpha 87A plus Palstar Auto-HF tuner. Should I place the SM-230 in line between radio and amplifier or after the amplifier? I assume that after the amplifier I am only able to monitor the waveform for 5 minutes. Does the SM-230 in/out SO-239s operate in bypass when the unit is either switched off or with switch set to function other that waveform monitoring? I’d like to be able to leave in inline after amplifier and use sparingly. Otherwise I’ll have to place in between radio and amplifier. 73, David, WU3J

TS-870S rear panel audio input
6
Now that I've fixed the problem with my ACC2 socket I've been reading about the supposed benefits of using it for audio in instead of the Mic socket. Apart from making the front panel tidier (no mic cable) is it worth doing? Is the speech quality improved without any external processing? -- Mike G8GYW

TS-870S no TX
38
Hi everyone I bought this radio from a dealer a year ago. It is in immaculate condition despite its age and worked flawlessly until now. It would start to drop out of TX occasionally during a QSO and I initially suspected my PTT switch. Now it won't transmit at all. I have tried PTT on the front panel mic connector, the rear ACC2 socket, the SEND button and AT TUNE. Any ideas where I should start looking for the fault? -- Mike G8GYW

FS: Kenwood TS2000 HF/VHF/UHF satellite all mode with Rigblaster interface
2
I have for sale a Kenwood TS2000 HF/VHF/UHF all mode radio, which does 100 watts on HF, 6, and 2m, and 50 watts on 70cm. It also will do full duplex for satellite operation. Has a AM/FM subreceiver and will do dual receive so you can listen to the local repeaters while operating HF or 6 meters. It also has a built in autotuner, 2 antenna jacks for HF/6m plus a receive antenna jack, built in CW memory keyer, TCXO, IF DSP for noise reduction and narrow filters, and most other features you would expect in an HF rig, plus you also get these features on 2m and 70cm! It comes with a Rigblaster soundcard interface, the CAT control cable with gender changer, and USB soundcard so you are ready to go on the digital modes from 160 to 70cm. It has been MARS modded so it will work on 60 meters also. It is in great operating condition. The bottom of the case has some white marks on it. The top, sides, and face look good. Has power cord and mic. Asking $825 shipped for all. Paypal/MO 73 John AF5CC

FS: Rigblaster Plus wired for Kenwood radios
I have a Westmountain Radio Rigblaster Plus soundcard interface to do digital modes from your computer with your rig. Great for FT8/FT4, PSK31, and other soundcard modes. It comes with the the usual Rigblaster cables to interface with the radio and soundcard-and the DB-9 to DB-9 to use for PTT switching if you need it. Has two of the round mic to RJ45 cables to interface your radio with the rigblaster as well. I will also include a parts unit Rigblaster which doesn't power on, and some of the cables that come with it. - This package will need a power cord or wall-wort as I don't have one for the Rigblaster plus. It is currently wired for Kenwood radios but you can wire it for any model radio just by changing some of the jumpers in the rigblaster. I will include an extra RJ45 cable so you can interface the rigblaster between it and a radio using a RJ45 mic connector, and then use a 8 pin round mic thru the rigblaster, if you like. - It also comes with a homebrew audio switching box which probably contains some good parts in it for projects as well. - I am asking $33 shipped in the US and can take paypal/check/MO. - 73 John AF5CC

TS-450S BCB sensitivity
? Hi group.. I have a 450S which has served me very well for ~30 years now. Long ago, I jumpered the resistors which formed part of the BCB, effectively removing the attenuator. It was fine for years like that, but a few months back I noticed a drop in BCB sensitivity. All other bands are fine... I checked everything I could, replaced the jumpers and verified the ckt, to no avail. I checked the control line for that band at the 74LS245 and found what I thought was the problem, so this morning I replaced that IC. It didn't solve the problem. The only other thing I can think of is that one of the 2 RLS135 diodes for that band might be flaky so I checked them as diodes and they test fine. Is it possible that these diodes might operate fine for DC but not for RF...? I think I'll replace those two diodes and check again, but this has me a little stumped... 73...Jordan VE6ZT

FS: NIB Kenwood CW filter for TS520 and others
Now here is a rare find. I have for sale a Kenwood 500hz CW filter, listed as the YF-3395C-1 but it looks identical to the more common YG3395C. This fits the 520, 599, 511, 510, and other radios with a 3.395mhz IF. It is brand new! I opened up the box and it still have the foam padding around it which has pretty much disintegrated. Has the original box and instruction sheet with it I am asking $50 shipped in the US and can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC

Any Interest in adding Digital Signal Processing Noise Reduction to an older Kenwood Transceiver?
13
I'm experimenting with this technology. I am attempting to assess if anyone would be interested in my experience constructing an Arduino-based DSP Noise Reduction implementation by Graham Whaley. One can read about his wonderful DSPHam device here: https://github.com/grahamwhaley/DSPham/blob/master/README.md It's quite feature packed and provides the user with: Several digital filters with differing bandwidth for FM, AM, SSB, CW which can be customized Two different AGC algorithms Noise Blanker and Notch Filter Selectable Noise Reduction Algorithms: Least Mean Squared (LMS), Spectral Subtraction, Two types of Moving Average, and Leaky LMS Three algorithms for decoding CW Approximate parts summary and cost: $36 Teensy 4.1 ARM Cortex-M7 Processor $15 Teensy 4.0/4.1 Audio Adpater Shield $ 4 Two-Line x 16 character backlit LCD (I originally used an RGB LCD, but then modified the code to use a cheaper mono-chromatic LCD) $ 2 Rotary Encoder Some additional miscellaneous parts, for 5V power-supply, wire, filter, mono-audio plugs, etc. Note: I have not put it in an enclosure yet. But one can see from the list above, adding DSP capability to an older radio can be done for a very reasonable amount. Please let me know if you are interested. 73 W7STF Sam

tm-g707 startup mode
my tm-g707 has taken to starting up in the VFO mode rather than Memory mode. I have been thru the manual and searched online but no info found any ideas on how to get it back to starting up in the memory mode. Many thanks John K4IIY

HT whip antenna
8
Maybe out of context of this group but I'm looking for some intelligent answers. Anyone know of a "good" whip for HT use? Dual band would be nice, but better yet a triband better. I' tried a few models from Diamond, Comet and some "white box" ones from China. However the return loss is poor to unusable in the area of 8 ~ 0 db respectively. I have more results on the web site, but don't wanna bore the readers. -- - Regards, Karl Shoemaker To contact me, please visit SRG's web site at http://www.srgclub.org for the current email address.

Kenwood TS570 swr circuit issue
Picked up a used TS570SG recently. It is a nice radio overall. However, the SWR circuit doesn't seem to be working correctly. It never shows higher than a 1.5 SWR, even with no load connected. And it doesn't agree with an external meter I have. Consequently the SWR/Power foldback circuit never really gets activated. I tried a full reset on it and it still does the same thing. Ideas? Anyone seen this before? 73 John AF5CC

4 pin power cord and gender changer for sale
I have for sale 2 items for the Kenwood TS480/590 ( and a few other radios). 1. 4 pin power cord used in most modern HF radios. 6 feet long, spade type fuses in both lines. Each line consists of 2 cables, for a total of 4 cables. Handled 100 watt radios with no problem. 2. Several Kenwood radios use a male DB-9 connector for computer control. Many of the USB to serial cables you buy off of ebay or Amazon have a male DB-9 on the one end. So here is your solution! I have a DB-9 female to female gender changer plug. Insert one end into the male connector on your rig, and now you have a female DB-9 connector to plug your cable into. Great for CAT control of your radio. This one is 2 to 3 inches long, made out of hard plastic, and built like a tank. It should hold up very well. I am asking $22 shipped for both. I can take paypal/check/MO/cash/cashapp. 73 John AF5CC

Kenwood TS-570S SSB, AM Reception problem
Hello group, Nice forum here, for sure. I have a strange issue with one of my TS-570S transceivers that exhibited low sensitivity when first turned on with SSB LSB/USB and AM. CW reception and transmission is not effected. The SSB and AM is almost perceptible, and once it warms up, it would work fairly well again. Now it's become a permanent problem, with only CW functioning properly. I am thinking a mixer issue, and most likely a leaky capacitor. Just wondering if there is someone on the group here who's had this problem and how to track it down. Thanks! Dave NS8S
