Thd biggest thing is on brushes and comutator is they are clean.
Now it gets harder to find.
Check to see if electric at motor wire is DC.
On some motors I would take wire come out motor and use DC

Sand it flat, and after that have a look at the brush holder. Looks like the brush is going in at an angle which is why the brush tip is angled when it should have a curve in it.

The brushes can be filed.
There are stick for comutator cleaning that stick though the brush and clean up the comutator.
You can glue a 220 grit sand paper dot on end dowl that does something.?

Progress!! I turned the lathe around, I was surprised how heavy the lathe
is.
I removed the shield, and the motor cover.
I also removed the control panel from the front so that I could inspect

A easy way to eliminate the gear train is to place the high/low gear lever in a vertical (neutral) position and see if the motor works O.K. You could also try turning the chuck by hand in both the hi

On mill I use a drum switch because of bugs.
If a bug dies in switch all need to do is turn the switch on and off a few times would clear out the dead bug on contacts
I also use type of switch on

Bugs and electrical has been big problem for over 100 years.
It something which is over looked in motors all time.
