I use to think on troubleshooting? to check the plug was not need. Later I found from tech happens all time.

A easy way to eliminate the gear train is to place the high/low gear lever in a vertical (neutral) position and see if the motor works O.K. You could also try turning the chuck by hand in both the hi and low gears to see what happens. If there are bad teeth you should feel that after a couple turns of the chuck.
