I guess everything that is removable from the end of the lathe? must be removed.

Check to see if electric at motor wire is DC.
On some motors I would take wire come out motor and use DC power source. Remove the belt so spins freely.? I used a battery charger for cars and trucks.?
This should if in board or motor.?
