Thanks, Dave, that worked!

Locked Re: Can I change the distance between rails in a crossover #layouteditor

Scott,

Yes.

Use "Options -> Grid Options -> Set Grid Sizes" to set the "Primary Grid Size" to 5. ?Using "Snap to Grid when Moving", move the center of the crossover and then the four corners until everything is aligned. ?After things are in place, you can set the size back to 10.

In my panel, to leave room for signal masts, I have kept the distance between rails three grid blocks apart. This works fine with regular turnouts, but I can’t seem to find a way to do this with crossovers.
?
Is what I want possible?

Locked Need help with SML discovery on a crossover #sml

I am having trouble getting a signal in front of one of the crossovers on the layout editor panel to discover the path to the other signals.
?
It doesn’t automatically discover them using GrandReset + Generate tools, nor if I choose Discover, and, if I try to manually add it, it says ?“the destination mast is not directly reachable from the source mast.” I disagree ?, but I’m not sure how to work around the issue.

Obviously, I’ve done something wrong with how I layed-out the crossover, blocks, or signal masts.
?
I will upload the config.xml file to a folder with my name.
?
I am working on a panel called “District 6”, the signal mast is called “SM6-77-78” and the crossover is “6:25” (and is labeled as such).

Locked Re: SML signal mast problem #sml

Hi Dave
I know you are very busy but I need a little guidance. I did everything Billybob suggested in aspect mode. I changed the SE74 op5 to C. My signal heads and signal masts are able to change the signals on the layout. What is the next step towards making the signals react to the train movement?? The locomotive travels the layout fine but the signals don't change.?
Thanks again

Hi Pete,
I have not been conversing with anyone about this. I just posted this thread.
NSVL 82 aka the wolfpen turn picks its cars up from the Yard (Lyndhurst) and the goes out . This run has been working fine until a few days ago.?
I will try your suggestion tomorrow and let you know what happens.

I am trying to figure out how to accomplish the subject task.
So Rick,
?
Let's have a look at your subject goal...?
Having cars move from Town A to Town B via a yard
This is a basic concept upon which you then placed some immediate modifiers.? Namely...
Currently the two yards on my RR are the origin/destination for all trains...
And also...
...when an inbound train arrives at the yard,...
So if logic is applied, I would assert that these yards are NOT the towns you name (in the subject task) as wanting to move cars.? In other words, you currently have Yard1, from which all trains originate/terminate. And another yard, let's call it Yard2, which also originates/terminates all the trains.? This is not logical, given your stated goal of moving cars from Town A to Town B via a yard.??
If I were to purpose a shift in thinking from a logic standpoint, I would redefine the pieces and their terms...
?
Let's call Yard1 by a new name... Town A.? Now, if you have a train that originates from this location, it could then move cars via a yard, on to Town B (or Yard2).? In your example, you are missing the third location, that of the intermediate yard.? So what if you convert Yard2 into that intermediate yard? and then make a new location which can be Town B.
?
Structurally, you need a Town A, which perhaps would consist of Spurs to serve as the destinations for your cars.? And also a yard to classify the cars based on their final destinations.? And finally another Town B to which the cars might be going or from which they originate.? This is going to require you to rethink how your current "yards" set up.?
?
I get the feeling you have more pieces than you have revealed here and that probably prevents a useful rendering of assistance on our part.? How many locations are there for use?? How many trains? Are you using custom loads or just the default loads/empties?
?
Back to the stated basic concept,
Town A - has multiple Spurs serving as destinations for cars.
Midway yard - should serve to classify cars for other towns.
Town B - has multiple Spurs serving as destinations for cars.
?
This is simple, straight-forward, and should be the framework for how you approach the solution to your desired stated goal.
?
Happy to help, hope it helps,

Locked Re: Build Fail, claims no route for cars #operationspro

Joe,
?
It appears you have been conversing with someone (Dan?) via private means versus the group post, so I think you maybe sent this post errantly.? But since you posted here, and gave me a little bit (the build report) to go on, I will chime in... ;-)
?
From the build report...
Car (CSXT 247307) departing staging (Afton), try routing car to (Lyndhurst Transload, LYN Trans-L 2C) using two or more trains Could not find a last hop C/I or yard track that can service car to destination (Lyndhurst Transload)

The program cannot find a suitable track for the last hop necessary to get the car delivered.? In other words, there is no CI or yard track which can hold the car for the Wolfpen Turn to deliver it to the Transload.
If you reset train NSVL 82 and bump up the Route detail level (to Very Detailed) under Build Report Options, then rebuild the train, the explanation of the various trains and tracks used, will be listed.
As another suggestion, while you are trying to get a certain behaviour figured out, I would turn off the option under Staging Options that allows the program to "try Normal mode if build fails from Staging."? This will prevent the program from using a "work around" to get the cars to leave staging, and will force you to have to diagnose the issues (like the one your having) that may be present in your setup.
?
If I were to guess right now (without seeing a higher detail level build report), I would imagine you have track (in Lyndhurst Yard) from which the Wolfpen Turn isn't allowed to "pick up" and so it cannot move a car on to the Transload.
?
Happy to help, hope it helps,
<Pete johnson>

Locked Re: Having cars move from Town A to Town B via a yard #operationspro

The point of a classification yard is to act as a place to transfer cars from one train to another, enroute to the car's final destination, which is NOT the classification yard (final destination could be another yard track though).? Let's say there is train A and train B, with location A and location B.? Train A does not go to location B, but train B does.? I have a car at location A that has a final destination of location B.? Train A would take the car to the classification yard, then train B would pick up the car and transport it to location B.??
?
I have my classification tracks set up for specific destinations, and my classification tracks will only accept a car with a final destination.? This works quite well.? Train A does terminate at the yard, but this is not the final destination for the cars.??
?
Hopefully this explanation makes sense.

Locked Build Fail, claims no route for cars #operationspro

I have attached the build report (I hope). The issue with the CMNT hoppers is fixed, I had put the wrong length in for the cars when I added them.
The other hoppers: CSXT 247307, 247655, 255614 can be either loaded with Dry Chem (for the paper mill) or Fertilizer (for the transload) or even shipped as MTY to be loaded at the trans load.
I know that in real life the cars would not swap load types like this but hey I only have so many cars.
Can you tell me why it will not move a car from Afton (staging) to Lyndhurst Yard and then onto the transload via the Wolfpen turn?
Thaks in advance for any help and insights.
Joe?

I did this option you proposed:
"Why dont you schedule a train for your script train and do not set it to run automatically. The auto engineer is an add-on to the dispatcher, the prime purpose of dispatcher is running manually operated trains."
Under my script, i spark a dispatcher not run automatically, in order to book the sections, then I run my shunting script.?
It works perfectly
Thanks a lot

Set the signal masts guarding the section to held.
Check that the mast is at stop before doing this.

I have a yard where rosters are doing shunting, with automatic coupling, uncoupling, (krois), back and forth with very precise positionning. It works very well with scripts.? But, sometimes, the shunter must step on a? main track of the station for a short period of time. This track may be used by large trains, which are managed by dispatcher. On my layout, one section equals one block
You are right, the stop alllocation is surely the best way. The only point is that I have plenty of Transit, and i wanted to avoid to modify them. But I will.?

Locked Re: Signals #sml

Dave,

Signal mast logic supports a single route between the source and destination mast based on the state of the turnouts between two masts.

If signal mast logics needs to support an alternate route, then a Repeater signal mast is linked to the destination mast and then signal mast logic is manually created between the source mast and the repeater mast.

Dave Sand, if I’m reading your description right, SML does not support interlockings with multiple paths between an entry and an exit? Maybe I’m not reading it right.

Locked Re: Having cars move from Town A to Town B via a yard #operationspro

I have found that by using custom?loads and schedules, the cars all have final destinations that are not the yard, even though the train terminates at a yard. Originally, we set the train terminating at the yard to put all cars into the arrival road, and then ran a local switcher turn to classify the cars. But this duplicates your problem.

We modified the location settings for the yard to allow the cars to be pointed to the correct classification track, and now tell the train operator to park their train in the arrival road, and pass the paperwork over to the yardmaster who then gives the paperwork to the switcher crew to move the cars into the appropriate track for the outbound to the final destination.

Trains terminate at the yard, but because all the cars already have a final destination, and the?classification tracks are set so that the outbound trains only leave from a specific track, the system will mark each car as to go to the specific track that will allow the car to reach its final destination, so the yard crew know where to move the car.
?
Works a real treat.?

Adding one engine at time helped narrow it down. The first glitch I found is when I added the third GP38 that was in a consist. It was setup through the Digitrax Control Station. Saved the list and it reloaded fine after eliminating the consist. I got to the very last car, a Jagerndorfer Railjet Control Car that has an ESU function decoder in it for lights. The saved throttles layout failed with this added to it.
?
Can this car be added to the throttle list or is the function decoder a problem??
?
Thanks for the suggestion, I now have seven engines that load on the throttles layout.
