John,

Q1: ?I change the global turnout speed for thrown. ?I don't see an issue with adding your enhanced signal system to JMRI as long as it provides consistent aspects using the default turnout speeds. ?The enhanced features can require different settings. ?This should be documented in the index.shtml document.

Q2: ?I assume you are referring to the "Simulate turnout feedback. Delay: 3 seconds" LogixNG action. ?The action "listens" to all turnouts for any turnout state changes. ?When a change occurs, it determines the type of feedback from the turnout table entry. ?For ONESENSOR and TWOSENSOR feedback mode it sets the sensor(s) to simulate the layout action.

I modified my "basic-enhanced" aspects.xml to set all "Secondary..." routes speed as "Medium" and all (Primary) diverging routes speed as "Limited". ?This change file as well as modify the turnout speed resulted in the 3-head masts to operate as intended. ?

Questions:
1. Should I change the default turnout diverging speed using the global variable or just on the affected turnouts? ?I'm thinking just on the affected turnouts, especially since I want to contribute the "basic-enhanced" signal system to JMRI and it should be tested using JMRI defaults as installed.
2. Is your LogixNG script created and assigned to each turnout, or written once at a global level and accessed for a given turnout using a menu? ?Pardon my ignorance here, I've not yet learned LogixNG. ?It appears the script essentially uses a "not" operator to invert turnout sensor state. ?If this is correct, does the turnout sensor state have to be set to valid values ahead of script executing? ?Is JMRI smart enough to work behind the scenes to allow the script to work with "TWOSENSOR" turnout sensing?
?
Now that I have the 3-head mast working as intended, next task is to learn LogixNG.

I did a trick with the multi-sensor for a vertical storage track
system. It had 4 icons, one each for the three different alignments
and the fourth was 'Moving' in a flashing icon. When the turn table
was moving, Logix set the fourth sensor and when it finished moving it
showed the spot.

I have uploaded my file.

In an effort to setup a new engine, I some how messed up my connections.? I created a new connection for my Power Cab, which is only used for programming on a program track.? I deleted this connection after encountering problems. Now I can not operate my engines through JMRI.? I can operate my engines with the power cab connected to my SB5 booster.? Tried to figure this out but I am now stuck.

My system.

Track powered by NCE SB5.?Set up as command station.

NCE Power Cab used for isolated programming track,

I Use a Stand Alone LocoNet for communications between stationary decoders and JMRI via RR Circuits?SSB Gateway.?

I have 6?RR Circuits Watchman for block identification and 10?RR Circuits Signalman driving signals all powered by the SSB Gateway.

I have 5 DCC Specialties Jack Wabbit Quads for turnout control powered by Digitrax DCS100 booster.

I have 7?DCC Specialties PSX Circuit Breakers and one PSXX Circuit Breaker for Power District protection.

I have 1?DCC Specialties PSX-AR and 1 PSXX-AR for auto reversing and?Power District protection.

?

I use JMRI to operate and program my locomotives.

I have 2 profiles in JMRI. ? NCE USB (for SB5 booster) and LocoNet.

As stated above, I normally do not have the power cab as a connection in JMRI.

When a train is a turn, the train's name doesn't change even if the lead loco is swapped at the end of the branch.? Not sure why you would need the consist name to change, you don't need to show it on your paperwork.? When OperationsPro dynamically builds a consist, no consist name is assigned by the program, that's something you would do if needed by your DCC system.

Locked Operations: consists and turns #operationspro

I'm not far enough along on my layout to test this yet, so I'm just trying to figure out how I'll eventually handle this scenario.
?
I'd like to configure a train to:
  • Start on the departure track in the Missoula yard.
  • Venture partway down the westbound main.
  • Diverge onto the Polson branch.
  • Do work at branch towns.
  • Turn around at Polson, the branch's last town.
  • Return down the Polson branch, doing additional work as necessary.
  • Return to Missoula and terminate on an arrival track.
Based on the Ops Pro doc and this group's content, I'm confident that everything above is readily doable in Ops Pro.?
?
The questions are:
  • How the locomotive consist gets created??
  • How is the locomotive consist handled at the turn at the branch terminus in Polson.
I hope to configure Ops Pro to dynamically create consists for trains based on available engines in the originating yard. But in this case, the branch terminus in Polson has no wye or turntable (at least, not in my era). Consequently, the locomotive consist (that train will be configured to require two locomotives) must be created in a tail-to-tail configuration and swap numbers at the turn. For example, the train might leave the station with a consist of 123/789 (calling in as 123) and return as 789/123 (calling in as 789). Is Ops Pro smart enough to handle this? I'm guessing that it can't be since a Location doesn't indicate whether it has a turntable or not. I suspect that I may have to configure this crew assignment as two Ops Pro trains.
?
I'm also wondering how these locomotive consists get created on the fly in Ops Pro; specifically, what's the workflow? Does the yard master gather the cars, caboose, and locomotives on the departure track by individually driving the locos in the correct order to the front of the train, and the locomotives are subsequently consisted automatically when the road crew's job starts? Or does Ops Pro simply assign the locos to the train and the yardmaster is responsible for creating the locomotive consist in the desirable order and juxtaposition?
?

Thanks for the answers to the questions.? I will probably use multiple icons overlayed on each other to show the turntable in different positions.
?
I have used the multi-sensor icons for the turntable control panel.? See image below, to control Walthers DCC turntable using LOCONET turnouts.
?
I didn't know that you could have more than three sensors/icons for the multi-sensor.
Good to know.

Hi and thanks for your answer.

I recently discovered this article, but there is no visual example, particularly on the path function. It's not easy. For example.

Do you have to include a turnout in a block or leave it as a sole block?
What to do in case of a dead end track? - only one portal ? ?

Thanks.

John,

I downloaded the file that you uploaded and it runs fine. ?

Since I am using a simulated LocoNet connection, the turnouts and sensor work fine. ?The LocoNet simulator has an option to set all of the LocoNet sensors to Inactive. ?I have the internal sensors set to default to Inactive.

Since the initial state of turnouts is unknown, the signal masts don't respond until I start setting the turnouts. ?

At this point, it looks like things are ok.

Dave,
I followed your instructions. The "good" panel loaded, however, when clicking on turnouts on the panel to "light up" the signals from all showing a red aspect, only a handful changed to what they should be. I checked the Sensor Table and in the State column, all of them show "Unknown" and won't change when I click on them.

John,

Do you have a file loading automatically using a startup action? ?If so, go to "Preferences -> Start Up" and delete it by selecting the action and clicking on the Remove button. ?Click on Save and do a restart.

After starting PanelPro, go to "Help -> File Locations". ?Click on the "Open User Files Location" button. ?This will open the Windows File Manager at the user files location. ?

Is the good file in the File Manager file list? ?If so, you can load it into PanelPro using "File -> Load table content and panels". ?If not, the file needs to be moved from its current location. ?

Welcome to the club. I've had lots of 'fun' getting things to function the way I thought they should in respect of signals and train speed.
The signal system will impact how speed changes (or doesn't). I employ SML and/or LogixNG to control 'real' and 'internal' signals although they are currently all internal as I'm developing my JMRI as I build the layout. On problem I had was trains not ramping up to a higher speed on a proceed signal.
It also seems oblock speeds are not applied as I would expect. It appears the warrant logic will look at the signal, apply the signal speed and disregard any block speed. If you have set a restrictive block speed and the entry signal is at proceed (at normal), the train won't slow to the lower block speed but run at the speed defined for 'normal'.
