QY100 - Song length
5
Hi everyone, I¡¯ve had my QY100 for a while now and I¡¯ve always been puzzled about this aspect. If I create a song using patterns, say just MAINA &B, and fills, but don¡¯t want an elaborate "ending" it seems that the song will never end, just keeps playing the last chord with the last pattern ad infinitum.. Can I enforce a sequence length, without using the end pattern? Apologies for the ultra simple question¡.. but any advice would be appreciated.. Cheers, Rocky.

QY 100/70 Display light new method 2023 (by HYPNOTIIC)
8
Hello fellow QY lovers! After eyeballing the QY 70/100 for quite some time now i finally got the chance to get a almost mint condition QY100 for 100€. Pretty hard to find here in austria and it also didn't come with a smart media card.. but i was lucky once again and found and bought a perfect condition 16MB card the same day i received my QY100. I immediately fell in love with this device, the sound selection, the quality, the mini keys, all the little details and features, sub menus... yall know what i'm talkin about haha.. The only real downside for me was the abscence of a display light as i mostly jam when its dark outside. So i went through the same process most of qy70/100 users do.. googled the hell out of it, watched all Youtube videos on the topic and stumbled on two realistic solutions: the very risky backlight mod where you have to peel of the reflective film inside the LCD module and install a electro luminescent panel, the other option was using a gba sp display light to illuminate the screen from the front. A third option would be hunting down the matching lcd module with display light (DMF-50202NY-LY) and simply swap it with the QY100 default display. This display however is so so hard to find and imo way too expensive for a 100€ device. The EL panel mod wouldn't be too expensive but disassembling the lcd module, peeling off the reflective layer without damaging the screen and having to reposition the lcd afterwards to get the correct pixels to show up was a bit too risky for me and i didnt want to f up my new favorite piece of oldskool gear.. so i'd rather look into the option involving the gba sp display light as i did this mod before to add a display light to my old gbc. I also had two gba sp's lying around and was hoping one of them still had an intact display light but it seems i ruined one at the first attempt and the other one was successfully built into my gbc.. Looking up the prices of gba sp's nowadays (did the mod like 6 years ago) i realized this would be a easy but also too expensive mod for my qy100... After days of fruitless research something else came to my mind, out of desperation and impatience rather than ingenuity.. i had an old Raspberry Pi TFT touchscreen laying around which i hardly ever use as its way too small for most apps i would use and which also has a screen light (led bar on the side that lights up a diffusive plastic layer). On disassembling the raspi touchscreen i realized it had the perfect size for the QY, i didnt have to trim the diffusive plastic panel that would sit in front of the display and the led bar had enough space to fit under the lcd module without creating a huge gap. I was excited to wire things up and try everything out but in the process i almost messed up the led bar's flex cable.. had to cut of the damaged part of the cable and scratch off the protective plastic layer to expose the copper on the remaining bit of the flex cable, so i could again get a proper contact for + and - wires i wanted to solder to the led bar and the QY. These flex cables are a pain in the azz to solder to and after two nerve wrecking days of trying to get proper contact and get all the led's of the bar to light up i finally got everything to work and fit inside the QY. Also added a resistor before thebled bar. This whole step could have been done way better and cleaner but in the end it worked and thats all that matters for me rn. I stuck the led bar and the diffusive plastic panel onto the QY's display protection glass with some tape. Then i put the lcd module back onto both to hold everything in place. There is some foam around the lcd to prevent dust from entering, but in my case also helps to keep the led bar and diffusive panel in place while also keeping a distance between the actual, unprotected display and the front light. I guess this is very similar to the gba sp mod however the biggest difference is that it's the cheapest option while also being the least risky one.. the price of the raspi touchscreen to salvage the screen light from is only ~18€. Link below... So I learned a lot from this lil project and i'm happy with the outcome. In the process i seemed to have scratched the diffusive plastic panel of the tft a little bit but i can easily swap it out in the future.. right now it doesn't bother me at all, i can finally use my QY100 as it is meant to be :) Let me know what you think about this new method! - *HYPNOTIIC* finished mod (day & night): https://ibb.co/y8s6mGb https://ibb.co/VxgNNdt *Display:* https://www.getgoods.com/at-de/products/467824/Joy-it-RB-TFT3.2-V2-Touchscreen-Modul-8.1-cm-3.2-Zoll-320-x-240-Pixel-Passend-fuer-Entwicklungskits-Raspberry-Pi-mit.html ( https://www.getgoods.com/at-de/products/467824/Joy-it-RB-TFT3.2-V2-Touchscreen-Modul-8.1-cm-3.2-Zoll-320-x-240-Pixel-Passend-fuer-Entwicklun )

It's amazing how it routes itself to the drum track... But how do I silence midi channels when I wanna play other synths... I get the drum triggering... This usually happens when I run it thru the Quadra or the remote sl as well. How do I stop the midi Sigal from triggering when trying to play other synths

Is there a shortcut to enter delay time? It is painstakingly slow. Thanks.

Daisy Chaining QY100
6
Hi has anyone Daisy chained more than 1 QY100 from a single power supply? I use 2 or 3 QY100 when playing live and rather than use 3 separate PA130B 12v / 700ma power supplies. I am thinking about Daisy chaining rather like 9v guitar effect pedals. . I guess the question is how much maximum current does a single QY100 draw? Any tips gratefully received

Brahim new member !

Hi all As I just bought a Yamaha QY70 (second-hand, Carousell, Singapore) I thought I would introduce myself to the group to share my interests. From what I read on manual there are a lot of System Exclusive (SYSEX) messages to request/dump data from/to the QYs. I feel it would be useful to develop some tools for the QYs users to load/save and edit songs, patterns, styles, etc. Development would be done using Qt to have multi-platform support (Win/Linux/Mac) and push to my github. I use Win10 and Linux Ubuntu. The LCD of my QY70 is very dimmed even with contrast at maximum. With a electronics background, I was please to read someone suggesting some sort of video output (VGA with scaling for e.g. ). Studying the QYs schematics from service manuals, I could imagine a solution with a FPGA that would receive LCD driver chip (T6963C for the QY) commands and would render to a VGA monitor. Some interesting future hacking ! First step is probably to replace my QY70 lcd with a more recent one possibly with backlight ! Please don't hesitate to suggest things to do in software/hardware ! drum kit differences and workflow advice
17
Hi Bill, I don¡¯t know if this helps but there¡¯s a QY100 List Book that lists all of the instruments and hopefully the drum kit by influence. If it¡¯s not in the file section of the group then it¡¯s probably easy to find on Google by searching for it by name and PDF. You could also tweak one of the existing drum Kits using the ADR and cutoff resonance¡ though those settings probably affect the entire track so you might have to split out your drum sounds in that case. Cheers, Eric ["The longest journey starts with the first step." - Lao Tzu]

Modern backlit LCD?

Anyone attempted the modern backlit LCD mod? Seems it would be a better solution than using the light overlay discussed here. But probably a lot more expensive. Seen in this YouTube video: Yamaha QY100 (QY70) - Best LED Backlight LCD youtube.com

Card Reader Recommendation?
11
We have virtually all of our church choir accompaniment music stored on a card in our QY100. It's not a microSD card and I can't seem to find a reader that would let us back up the files to a computer. I don't think the card has been backed up in years and I'd like to get a card reader to do this. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks! Tony

Midi CC - Control # for Decay - QY100
9
Hello - I am trying to figure out what the control number is for controlling Decay in the QY100, I'm using a Novation X-Station 25 as my midi controller and have been able to set up Attack CC 73, Release -CC72, Resonance etc.. and many others, but I stumped with Decay, I know it's controllable because I had at one time a Behringer BCN-44 B-Control Nano set up to control Decay rate for the QY but I don't know what the CC was. Thanks -- Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, I'm curious about getting the most out of my QY70, including the bidirectional PC MIDI interface mode. Has anyone found an adapter or something that lets you use the host connector with a modern computer?

QY70 MIDI Interface
14
Hey all, I got a QY70 not too long back and I've used it to make rough sketches of songs to finish if I'm out and about, so that I have something to work on when I get home. It's fulfilling its purpose well and I love it!!! I recently used the QY Filer to get files off the QY70 and that worked perfectly fine, I tried today to load a file onto the device but I've been encountering an issue where the software will say that the file has been recieved, but it's not on thq QY70. If I try to load a MIDI onto the device, it even gives me an error on the screen, but the software says its a-ok. I'm assuming its my MIDI interface as it was only cheap (MidiPlus 2x2) so do you guys have any recommendations on any better (but affordable alternatives). I did buy a MOTU Midi Express XT USB used recently but despite multiple tutorials, I couldn't get it to work and have returned it. If it's not my interface, what else might it be instead. Thanks a billion, Icosahedron

Backing up the QY70
3
Hello! I recently got a QY70 that ran out of memory pretty quickly. Now, I can't add automation without having to delete another PATT or SONG to make space. Not ideal, so I hooked it up to my audio interface through an old fashioned DIN connector and started looking for appropriate software. I'm on a Mac and none of the files in the files section of the forum work for me. I got advised to try out SysEx Librarian, but to no avail. Whenever I try a Bulk Dump, SysEx Lib does in fact communicate with the QY because I do get a string of hexadecimals on the computer, but I don't know what to do with them. It seems incomplete. If anyone has used this software successfully, please, I'd be interested in hearing how you do it! I can record all note data in my DAW, no problem, but what I'm looking for is to temporarily offload the QY, so that I can finish my projects, and later put them back on so that I can continue where I left off. I'm out travelling for a few months, but at home I use a RS7000 that of course has a SM reader. I'm wondering if I could somehow transfer the QY projects to the RS, and get it to the computer through the Smart Media - USB adapter I have. Alternatively, I've (desperately) been looking at alternatives because it just seems like options are limited for Mac users. One of such alternatives is called Yamaha MDF3 but I'm not sure if even that will store exactly everything from the QY, would it? Much thanks for any help! Sonny

It¡¯s been over a year of its release, but no mention here. Since there are very few handheld music stations (walkstations), What do you think about this portable device? I used trackers in the 90s and many times wished the QY70/100 had an input way like the trackers (the event list is far from it). It¡¯s looking to me like a better handheld composition device (for non handheld, performance and gear connectivity the QY is still the king), buts that just my point of view since I have experience in trackers.

Yamaha XG Effects
13
Lately, I've been playing around a lot with the effects and under-the-hood Sysex parameters. I wanted to see how far I could push them using delays and distortion. I was able to tweak the settings so I had 5+ delays (isolating the predelays/delays/feedback delays for all three slots, and minimizing parameter effects). Working on some comb filtering and physical modeling/resonator effects. Re: distortions, I was able to overdrive the internal blocks and color the grit using effect send routing, the hidden EQ settings, and return levels. Also possible to overdrive the mixer internally, and even the hardware audio out. With careful gain staging, this opens up many possibilities. XG's thoughtful specs afford a surprising degree of sound design/synthesis control when thinking laterally! Anyone else using the QY's this way? Will post more findings as they come.

List Book sez channel can be set for each track?
Was reading the QY70 List Book and came across the following on page 52: (3) TRANSMIT/RECEIVE DATA (3-1) CHANNEL VOICE MESSAGE Transmitted only during recording and playback. Transmission channel can be turned On/Off and the transmit channel set for each track. That last bit "transmit channel [can be] set for each track" is news to me. I know track output can be disabled, and I know the channel each tone generator part responds to can be set. And I know about routing the pattern tracks to MIDI channels 1-8 or 9-16. But how can an individual track's transmit channel be changed? Not clear to me from the manual and haven't come across this anywhere else. Anybody know if this can actually be done, and how?
