Daisy Chaining QY100

Hi has anyone Daisy chained more than 1 QY100 from a single?power supply? I use 2 or 3 QY100 when playing live and rather than use 3 separate PA130B 12v / 700ma power supplies.?I am thinking about Daisy chaining rather like 9v guitar effect pedals. . I guess the question is how much maximum?current does a single?QY100 draw? Any tips gratefully received

2 Amps should do it. but better get a 3amps power supply.

I've managed 2 and any pair of TG300, MU90R and QY100 works. Add a third and they all go off. No harm done, however.

Here’s a link or two that might help.?

Video shows playing the Showcase at full volume.?

.286 A @ 12 V

So it sounds like 1A would be plenty for 2.

Hope this helps.?

The QY100 generally draws (at most) about 500 mA. ?However, most of the time it draws a lot less… It depends on what you’re doing and how hard you’re pushing it (number and complexity of tracks, effects, etc) as well as how loud the volume is set. ?You should be able to power two of them with a standard QY100 power supply with no problem about 90% of the time… again providing a your not pushing both of the QYs to the max. ?Worst case scenario you’re going to burn up the power supply, the QY itself would probably just shut down or reset itself (power cycle).

Note: Overdrawing a power supply has the potential to cause a fire, it’s not likely, but it is possible, so be advised.

?

Best idea is to buy a stronger power supply and a splitter:

With a power supply, when it comes to current (amps) having more than you need is not a problem, you just want to make sure the voltage and the polarity are correct. With that said, the standard QY100 power supply is 10volts, but I have used plenty that are 12volts without any issue (and 12volt power supplies are much easier to find).

I would recommend the largest power supply you can accommodate (that does not have a fan). ?Generally a switching power supply will be smaller and more portable verses a transformer-type power supply. You should be able to find one online that goes up to 5 amps without requiring a fan. Basically a switching power supply without a fan will look much like a laptop power supply with the brick part in the middle (which is alot easier to work with).

Example:?
(Note: Confirm with seller that this is a standard DC barrel jack (5.5mm x 2.1mm) and that the polarity is Center Positive)

Then you just need a barrel jack splitter which come in a variety of sizes from 1-to-2 to 1-to-8, for a 5 amp power supply you wouldn’t want to go much beyond a 1-to-5 splitter since each QY100 could draw upto about 1 amp under heavy use (actually maxes out at less than 1 amp, but that gives you a nice margin of safety to not burnout the power supply with 5 QY100s running at power). ?Again, just make sure it is female to multiport male and the barrel sizes are 5.5mm x 2.1mm. (Polarity and voltage is only an issue in regards to the power supply, not the splitter).

Example:?
? ? ?(1 Female to 4 male barrel jack splitter).

The only issue with these multi splitters is that sometimes the cords are rather short from the point where they split… and you need them all to be long enough to separate the QY100, so you may need to buy a few male to female extender cord for each QY100).

By purchasing something like the examples above, you would be able to accommodate two QYs and still have some extra jacks and enough amps to power additional equipment (or more QYs).

Hope this helps,
Eric
