Backing up the QY70

Hello! I recently got a QY70 that ran out of memory pretty quickly. Now, I can't add automation without having to delete another PATT or SONG to make space. Not ideal, so I hooked it up to my audio interface through an old fashioned DIN connector and started looking for appropriate software. I'm on a Mac and none of the files in the files section of the forum work for me. I got advised to try out SysEx Librarian, but to no avail. Whenever I try a Bulk Dump, SysEx Lib does in fact communicate with the QY because I do get a string of hexadecimals on the computer, but I don't know what to do with them. It seems incomplete. If anyone has used this software successfully, please, I'd be interested in hearing how you do it!

I can record all note data in my DAW, no problem, but what I'm looking for is to temporarily offload the QY, so that I can finish my projects, and later put them back on so that I can continue where I left off. I'm out travelling for a few months, but at home I use a RS7000 that of course has a SM reader. I'm wondering if I could somehow transfer the QY projects to the RS, and get it to the computer through the Smart Media - USB adapter I have. Alternatively, I've (desperately) been looking at alternatives because it just seems like options are limited for Mac users. One of such alternatives is called Yamaha MDF3 but I'm not sure if even that will store exactly everything from the QY, would it?

Much thanks for any help!
Sonny

I have an MDF3 which I'm sure is what I used to back-up the QY70.? Though it's so many years ago that I can't quite remember the details.

The manual reminds me there is a Bulk Dump feature that can dump part or all of the contents to MIDI or serial.? It can then be recorded by the MDF3, or by a computer running other MIDI software.? I think that's how I would have done it.? And I think that does give the complete backup that you seem to be looking for.

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Richard.

Thanks for your reply! And sorry for my late response to it. I figured out I could use SysEx Librarian to do the backup, which is free! So I chose it over the MDF! It works flawlessly btw.
