Anyone attempted the modern backlit LCD mod? Seems it would be a better solution than using the light overlay discussed here. But probably a lot more expensive.

To use a modern display you would need to add a microprocessor to decode the proprietary Optrex protocol and then drive your lcd or pled display with a modern library. Optrex displays are so expensive it’s cheaper to buy old QY20s then order a replacement part. If the cost of a cheap mcu and display is worth it, it could be a fun project.?
