Replacing handbrake mounting plate 21
The handbrake pivot on my 1977 S1 is broken. To replace/repair it it looks like I need access to the inside of the sill. I could not find a previous discussion on the best way to do this, if that is indeed the correct way to replace the plate. What is the best way to approach this repair?

Heater Blower Motors 7
The heater blower motors on my 1977 SI are burnt out. I have had no luck finding original replacements but I did find 12v motors on Amazon that I could make a mount for but they are noisy due to them being gear driven. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of electrical motors that would be suitable (quiet) replacements. The fan needs to turn around 600 rpm as I understand it. If the diameter is below 1.75 inches then I will be able to use the old motor body as a sleeve to mount the new motor in. The motor in the picture is 1.25 inch diameter. The length of the motor body needs to be less than four inches. Hopefully the pictures will make it clear how I am mounting the motor. Any suggestions of possible quiet motors would be welcome. Thanks.

What distributor are you running in your 907? 54
Mine is a lucas 23 or d25. it is leaking bad and after talking to steve at sjs he said its either the distributor needs to be rebuilt or the engine breather is blocked as it is not as this is a fresh rebuilt engine with 300 miles on it now. its been coming out the sides. According to him this is NOT the distributor with the internal seal as i went to rdr one from him. If you were me woudl you opt to have it rebuilt or upgrade to another one? The leak is pretty bad and worries me, iw ant to address it now that myc ar is running. its currently getting paint fixes done but will have it back next week. Any inputs would be much appreciated!

Valve Guide Removal 4
Greetings all, I'm at work prepping the cylinder head for my engine, with some carbon cleanup still to do in the exhaust ports but impeded by the guides. I have new guides in hand and will turn over those, new valves, spring package and the cleaned up head to a well regarded local builder. As he's a bit of a journey out of town I'm contemplating knocking the guides out myself so as to get the head as tidy as possible before he assembles the lot. Would a correctly sized punch and hammer be a sensible approach for this? Cheers Steve

Difficult Cam Removal 10
I am in the process of removing cams from Turbo/HC cam housings and perplexed at why the 1st is stubbornly refusing to budge. The cog wheel and snubber are removed and the thrust plate retaining bolt at the opposite end as well. These components have been out of service for years and the cam does not turn all that freely. No idea what was done in the PO's hands though there's a crude glop of RTV at the forward end of the cam. Insights? Steve

LOTUS ESPRIT S1 3
I have a 1977 lotus Esprit S1 , Signal Red gelcoat 199H in "PRESTINE CONDITION" Although everything is working as it should. I am researching in the event the single headlights motor should show any sign of failure. 1. How reliable is the single headlights motor? And should, I be concerned. 2. Is there an alternative single motor, from another brand of car that would work. If so what brand of motor and make of car does it come from ? And how involved is it to swap. And would it utilize same switch on the binnicale. 3. Has anyone replaced the single motor on a lotus Esprit S1 with a linear actuator. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated. And please, if you respond to these questions. " PLEASE" kindly be detailed in your reply / explanation. As , I will be using your method if you feel your improvement was effective. Thanks ? so much in advance. I am in the NIAGARA ONTARIO CANADA are. If anyone, is close and would like to meet up and go over ideas. My S1 runs FANOMINAL. Anyone has some questions for me as well and , I can be of help.

S2 windshield wiper motor park switch 5
Does anyone know where I can get a park switch, motor with switch or anything else that will help. The motor runs fine on High and low but will not park . It appears that when the switch changes it does not ground, so the motor coast and continues to run. Any help would be nice. Gene

Brake vacuum pipe 2
The brake vacuum pipe that runs through the tunnel on my car is steel. Mine is pretty corroded, so making another. Had anyone used anything other than steel for this pipe? Aluminum or flexible silicone vacuum hose?

Sway bar orientation 3
So I've just installed the rebuilt steering rack, and the tie rods hit the sway bar at full lock. I've read that the sway bar has a right side up and upside down, but when I put this thing on the bench, I couldn't tell any difference. Am I likely to have it on upside down? Esprit S1, by the way. In other news, the tie rod ends I purchased are 3/8" longer than the ones that came off, so even screwed in all the way I don't think I'll get enough toe-in. So I'm thinking of shortening the new ball joints, or re-greasing and changing the rubber on the old ones, as they seem tight.

Upgraded front brakes from SJ Sportscars 2
I'm just now installing the upgraded brake kit from AP Racing sold by SJS. It turns out that the anti-rattle clips don't fit in this caliper, as it is specified for racing only. I confirmed this directly with AP Racing. So I'm installing the setup without the clips. Just wondering if anyone else has used this kit, and if the pad noise without anti-rattle clips is annoying, or no big deal?

Esprit pictures 6
I've been collecting pictures of Lotus Esprits in the internet since 2019, with the help of some others. I have pictures of over 200 cars. A great resource if you are restoring a car. However, there is no guarantee that any pictures that you encounter are correct. Take that with a pound of salt. http://holycows.net/Lotus/ Virus-free.www.avg.com

Lotus Esprit S1 7
The lotus Esprit S1 doesn't have an upper control arm stiffening bar on top of the drive axles. Like the S3 pictures that , I have included in this Email. I am wondering if there is a solution for the S1 to minimize shock load on the driveshafts to the gearbox. These pictures, I have included don't show exactly where this bar is connected to. If someone with an S3 would post some pictures. As , I a retired METAL FABRICATOR and once ,I know the connection points of this upper control arm rod. I couldn't fabricate a bolt on kit for, S1 and S2 cars. Thanks ? guys.

Steering Rack mysteries 16
So, I thought this would be an easy day on my S1 restoration. Time to mount the steering rack back on the frame. My R&P has zero play, so I thought I would just change the boots, new tie rod ends for good measure, paint it and put it back on. However, when I removed the boots a lot of oil came out... What? These things have oil in them? If so, what holds it in except for the boots? Anyway, the offside rack bushing, which looks like it was once some sort of nylon or plastic, is disintegrated. That means more work. I'm tempted to take the tie rod off, slide in a new bushing and call it a day, but the oil in the boots means I have more work to do? Are there oil seals in there somewhere? I can't imagine, since the rack has, you know, teeth. Anyway, I'll get on the phone with the usual suspects to see if I can get some rebuild parts. Thoughts in the meantime? --Shane S1- 207H

Removing Core Plugs, Guides
Greetings, With engine work ongoing in earnest I'm asking for advice on removing core plugs and valve guides. The head preparation will be contracted to a local pro with impeccable credentials but I'd like to pass along anything our community guru's have to offer. As to the core plugs, figure I'll try to pop those out myself prior to having the head vapour blasted. Cheers Steve
