To replace/repair it it looks like I need access to the inside of the sill. I could not find a previous discussion on the best way to do this, if that is indeed the correct way to replace the plate. What is the best way to approach this repair? |
Paul, Shane,
Thanks. I found the video: Realising that all time project is a lemon Dream Lotus restoration. It looks like a frustrating job finding all the rivets but at least I have a good idea where they are now.?
It is exactly the issue I have so I will get into it once I have the body off my car and the fuel tanks out of the way.

No it's custom built. I am a retired Metal fabricator . Where are you located. Might be able?to help. Here is a video of how it's installed.? On Tue., Dec. 31, 2024, 7:23 p.m. CSM via , <csmarshall26=[email protected]> wrote:

The brackets are available from SJ in both LH and RH versions...
I have replaced it on my S1 and it's a bit of a struggle to get the sill off as it's riveted and bonded to the body. There are rivets under the fuel tank just to add to the fun!

Yes all the best. Body off . That's alot of work OMG. Check out my many videos nom my 1977 Esprit on? TIK TOK.? ?p60850_ On Wed., Jan. 1, 2025, 1:24 p.m. CSM via , <csmarshall26=[email protected]> wrote:

Ouch!? I won't be removing the outer sill on my S1 any time soon!!!? Actually the only part of the video I was really interested in was the half-second clip where they take out the inner sill.? I'm guessing that the amount of effort required is commensurate with the amount of screen time it got.? My first priority is to check that the cable is properly attached, but if I find that the lever has "gone all floppy" then I'll probably bag it and pretend the handbrake doesn't exist just like I've done for the 11 years I've owned the car.

开云体育While we are on the topic of emergency (hand) brakes, I thought I’d share a little tip. Often, the e-brake mechanism on the caliper is frozen. I’ve had 100% success freeing those up (I think I’ve done 6 of them, or more). Soak the caliper in a 1:1 mixture of acetone and ATF, in a sealed container or Ziplock bag. Take it out once or twice a day, clamp it in a vise and use some big-honking pliers to try to exercise it. Repeat this for several days, and for a couple days after it loosens up. ? I saw an article on that acetone/ATF mixture. It was the best penetrating fluid ever, far exceeding anything in an aerosol can. ? Good luck, Bill ? I agree 100% with the acetone and ATF, the best ever.

I'm going to start with the lever, and if that checks out move on to the cable.? If all that is good and I still don't have an e-brake then I'll follow the procedure you specify.? Starting next Spring of course when the temperatures are above freezing and the salt has washed off the road... -- Toaph

With the help of some friends the body was lifted off my car yesterday and this morning I removed the fuel tanks. I then set about removing the left hand sill to get at the handbrake mount. I think I counted 35 pop rivets that needed drilling, including one at the bottom of the front wing that I could not reach with a drill and had to cut with a blade (between the sill and wing when I could make some space), and three that were covered by fiberglass. Swapping the handbrake mount for the one I got from SJ did not take long. Now I have to clean it all up, remove as much of the old adhesive as I can and put it back together. Does anyone have a recommendation for which adhesive to use?

开云体育I used Marson thread serts, which are like a rivet in that you put them on with a similar tool, and then it collapses and gives you a threaded insert which has flanges and grips the fiberglass, but for me, the main reason is because I have lotus by Claudius series 3 aero pieces that came on the car, but I’ve gone back to the original pieces but I decided I wanted them to be interchangeable for fun, Gordon On Mar 28, 2025, at 3:14?PM, CSM via groups.io <csmarshall26@...> wrote:

I believe these thread setts . Are? called JACK NUTS. On Fri., Mar. 28, 2025, 7:36 p.m. gsauerphd1 via , <gsauerphd=[email protected]> wrote:

开云体育No, what I like about these is they’re really flat when you clamp them down and they’re much more solid than the jack nuts, here’s the difference, Gordon On Mar 28, 2025, at 6:39?PM, P. via groups.io <pasqualeelauqsap850@...> wrote:
