Looking for dq10 woofers 17
Hey all new to the group and looking for some help. My stepdad bought a set of 10's off a friend and has had them for 5 years. I've been bugging him for them for as long as he's had them and he findly decided to give them up. Brought em home, pulled the grilles and was welcomed by a pair of radio shack drivers- perfect, just what I needed. Has anyone got a pair they want to sell and ship to Ontario? Please let me know,. Thanks!

Help with DQ-20 crossovers 8
New here...first post. I picked up a set of DQ-20 speakers to refurbish. Woofer foams have already been replaced. It appears that the crossovers have already had some work done to them too. Can anyone identify what might have been replaced by the attached pics? Does this look like a Regnar upgrade kit or some other? Additionally, the fuses have been removed from the signal path. Is this common? To improve SQ? They sound great when fed some power and a clean source. Objective is to determine what else might need to be done to the crossovers, if anything. Any help or advice is appreciated.

DQ-10 Tweeter Potentiometer Adjustment 17 #s
Hello, Sorry if this question has been answered previously. I just finished a replacement of cap on the DQ-10 crossover. While measuring the crossover, I notice that the Tweeter and STweeter adjustment potentiometer changes the voltage to the tweeter and Stweeter in only three position. The positions where the voltage to the tweeter and Stweeter changes are fully minus, fully positive, and any in between position. It is not variable as expected and acts almost like 3 position switch. It is the same on both speakers. Is this what was intended in this crossover design? Has anyone experienced the same?

Anyone Else Use DQ-10's For Home Theater Fronts and Center? I have a new issue... 2
Hi all. I have two sets of DQ-10's. For years I used them for stereo only with the MX-1 passive crossover and the dahlquist passive sub. Sounded great. Of the two pairs I own, I upgraded of the pairs with new crossovers from Regnar (had Regnar rebuild my old ones and mail them back to me) and the other pair is stock. Both pairs in factory new condition as they have always been in my clean home with minimal movement. Had one pair woofer re-foamed when it started to sound crackly -- probably 20 years ago now. I love them now in my 5.1 theater setup -- using just three of them for my L, R, and Center speakers in my theater (along with a high end JVC projector with 135" stewart screen) using just a high end Denon AVR x6700H powering them paired with an HSU powered sub and Alon II rears (huge quality overkill on the rears, I know). Anyway, here is my issue. Lately, only during dialog and only VERY faintly, I hear a sizzle when men's voices, from TV shows, coming from I believe the center channel. This is one of the speakers that has everything as from the factory. The sizzle during speaking is so faint that only I can hear it, but my wife does not hear it. Anyway, now that I am attuned to it and am listening for it, it is driving me nuts. Give this is a virgin speaker, is it the crossover, a speaker, a woofer needing re-foaming, or something else? Before I start ripping things apart, would love some direction from the group. Thanks

If not, does anyone know the part number of the OEM tweeter, or a part number of a good replacement. I fact I would like to know the part number of all of the speakers and components please. Thanks, Rich

As promised, revised DQ-10 schematic posted 10
First - This will be my last post to the group. Yahoo seems determined to get in on the Facebook type market, and frankly, I'm just not sociable enough for that. I don't twitter, I don't Facebook, I don't mySpace, etc. I've decided I don't Yahoo either. I intend to delete this Yahoo account once this is posted, so will not see any responses or questions. Sorry if that seems abrupt, but once I make a decision, it instantly gets applied. This is my attempt at a parting gift, not a slap in the face, hopefully... The schematic - The revised schematic came from a weekend of tests done by a very well regarded professional in the field, and he has the equipment to do it too. He is under contract so he can't publish this. He did me a favor. You'll note that this is similar to other versions, but the driver phasing is critical, and all of the versions we've seen seem to have been redrawn, redrawn, and redrawn, with errors at each revision.. You'll note I just re worked an earlier crossover, but removed the confusing wire colors, and put in the revised polarities. On the wire colors, well... Dahlquist had some one color scheme, others another color scheme, and some were all white wires! Get an ohm meter and trace polarities to the next component on the crossover. It's the only way to KNOW you have it per the schematic. In brief, the DQ10 crossover is 2 series crossovers, in parallel. A third leg added for the super tweeter. The low end of each driver is electrically a second order rolloff. The high end is electrically a first order rolloff. So, it an asymmetrical crossover which is common enough. The phasing on most symmetrical 12 db/octave, aka second order filters is usually reverse phased at the crossover points. From what I've read, it shouldn't matter whether the crossover is series or parallel. That's not necessarily true though as series first order can also be reconfigured to quasi-second order which has NO phase shift, although still doesn't attenuate very well. Then a second component could be tweaked in to help protect a delicate mid or tweeter...? I know Paul W. Klipsch did things like that! Reversing 1 driver puts the drivers IN PHASE at the crossover points, because each section is 90 degree's shifted, so 90 degree's + 90 degree's = 180 degree's, or completely reversed. This will usually cause a null at the crossover frequency, unless the driver phasing is reversed on 1 of the drivers, usually the tweeter. DQ-10's are not symmetrical second order, so the phase shift here is only 135 degree's(ignoring the actual phase shift of the drivers themselves...) These are not "book" crossovers at all, but rather crossovers designed from IN FRONT of the speaker, testing each element, and each change. This is 100% counter to the way systems are designed today. Today, it's all modeled on computers, then revised and optimized by computers. Then, maybe if if it's a really expensive system, some one actually sits in front of it and listens. Maybe he'll even tweak it a little. Jon Dahlquist was brilliant! What jk determined is that from a distance of 40", and with the microphone mounted and aimed towards the middle of the top array, the drivers were all IN Phase at the crossover frequency's, and for a good range beyond with the phasing per the revised schematic.. The frequency response was also much smoother, both on and off axis. It seemed to him, this had to be the ORIGINAL layout, unless the idea was to have a more diffuse sound-field, and the speakers were required to be listened to well off axis. We tried it that way, and it made for a much BIGGER image. However, it seems unlikely that was the intent of the ORIGINAL designer. Recall, this was touted as a PHASED ARRAY, with the drivers acoustic centers all critically aligned and focused. We were both flabbergasted when we heard them! For me, it was a trip down memory lane, back to the early 70's. This was the sound I remembered and fell in love with. Absolute precision! I'd forgotten they could sound that good. The detailing, even in the mid range was equal to, or superior to man

Bi-Amping DQ 10’s 4
Hello everyone & I’m wondering if there’s anyone within the group that has bi-amped their DQ10’s and if so, do you think it was worthwhile? If improved, how so? And, are you using an active and/or a passive crossover and what amp combination? I’ve been toying with the idea, but, am a little Leary of the added complexity, wondering if I might not be doing more harm than good? Any and all info appreciated. Thanks, John

DQ-LP1 Raytheon 4558 op amps 2
Greeting, I'm currently repairing a LP1. And while flipping thru my notes noticed, that back in the day the designer's decided that only the Raytheon 4558 was sonically worthy. Unfortunately it seems I don't have any Raytheon's but do have a bag of Motorola MC4558CP's. Which I'll have to research possibility employing. So my questions are do any group members happen to have any Raytheon's stashed? And providing they are unobtainable, any ideas on what would be the closest current production replacement would be greatly appreciated? Many thanks in advance, DD

DQ-30 Screen Removal 9
So, I've got a nice pair of DQ-30s but one has a dead/weak tweeter (hard to tell because the mid does a pretty good tweeter imitation). I'd like to access the back to check resistance, how do I get the screen off? I took out the screws on the vertical inside of the screen, what else is there? TIA.

DQ-1 Subwoofer Placement 6
I’ve had a pair of DQ-1 subwoofers and the LP-1 crossover for several years. I struggled with placement in my room and tried several locations, cross over points & output levels. Recently I pulled both out and photographed for sale. Not wanting to move both after the photo session, they stayed on either side of my listening position chair. I also happened to watch a YouTube video by Paul McGowan at PS Audio about subwoofer placement. Paul touched on “near-field subwoofer placement” where a subwoofer(s) sits directly next to the listener. I had a few minutes to try it and I finally like the performance. With my DQ-10s I have the crossover point at 50 Hz and the level very low on the LP-1. As expected the bass performance is changed for the better. What I didn’t expect was the positive change in the overall presence, weight across both the bass & midrange frequencies, and change in sound stage. I had my DQ-10s placed and dialed in to my taste. I was so happy that I listed the DQ-1s for sale….now I have trouble listening without the subwoofers engaged. Funny how this worked out. If you’ve got a sub, give near-field placement a try.

DQ-10s as Mastering Speakers
Hey all, I found something fun that I thought the group might find interesting. Dahlquist DQ-10s have been used as mastering monitor speakers for at least one album. You can listen to it and find the mention in the liner notes here: https://archive.org/details/cd_hongyingdonbiao_huanghongying-donbiao - John
