Using the wsjtx app on sBitx

Notes:

  • the standard wsjtx app is not very usable on the default sbitx display
  • the raspberry pi touch screen display resolution is 800x480
  • the wsjtx app requires a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768
  • this is why the sbitx software provides its own ft8 support
  • see further discussion in the thread linked in the references below

Preparation:

  • start from a clean reboot
  • start the sBitx program using the icon on the desktop
  • when Chromium starts, use the 'X' in its window title bar to close it
  • now the screen has the 'Qt' interface of the sbitx program on it
  • hold Alt and Space together then pick 'Iconify' from the menu
  • this puts sBitx onto the system toolbar
  • the 'sBitx' program is iconified but still running
  • open the copy of fldigi by clicking on its icon in the system toolbar
  • use the 'X' in its window title bar to close it
  • click on the Raspberry at the top left, open 'Sound and Video', click on 'wsjtx'
  • After doing this, the 'wsjtx' app is running in the traditional way.
