Re: What a coooooool tool!!!
That map is a copy of Jamie WA7JH's map window in his running copy of YAAC at his station. YAAC has a mini webserver built into it so other computers on the same LAN as the YAAC computer can see most of the information the YAAC user can see (the map, the station list, the incoming text message list, etc.). Jamie has exported that local webserver by port-forwarding through his firewall router, so anyone on the Internet can see what his station sees. Thankfully, the webserver in YAAC is small and stupid enough that it can't be used as a bot vector for attacking other systems; the worst it can do is crash YAAC from being overloaded with requests.

I want to thank Uri for doing the tedious and (before now) thankless job of correcting my lousy German/Deutsch translation of the YAAC UI. His work is much appreciated, and will be included in the next build of YAAC.
Uh, did I get the APRS symbol types correct, or are they incorrect or lousy grammar as well? Andrew, KA2DDO author of YAAC |
Re: Map edits for OSM
Hi there,

A useful alternative to mapping missing/fixing incorrect OSM data is by using the mobile app Streetcomplete [1]. It's currently only available for Android. It allows you to add missing OSM data (data to a high level of specificity, e.g. width of roads, tactile kerbs at pedestrian crossings, etc) while you walk. To have your edits accepted you still need an openstreetmap.org website account. I'm not affiliated with the creator, but I'm a big user of it for mapping local data. Hope that helps. 73s, Bernard/ei8fdb/m5fdb [1] On 31/07/2024 12:53, Andrew P. wrote:

Re: Monitor Frequency
Greetings.
I finally got back to the monitor frequency issue you were having, and was unable to replicate it. However, YAAC is aware of some other countries' band allocations (not all, because not all nations post their amateur radio regulations on the Internet and in a language I can read :-( ). For example, the United Kingdom (Great Britain) stops their 2-meter band at 147.000 (not 148.000 like the US and Canada) and does not have a 1.25-meter band, so YAAC goes directly to their bottom of the 70cm band at 430.000. Per chance, were you using a Raspberry Pi with the Raspbian operating system and didn't properly set your locale to en_US instead of the Raspbian default of en_GB? Hope this helps. Re: Incorrect Position on YAAC
开云体育Ercan,
Also please note that your sample traffic showed only position reports from the YM3KCN-4 station, and no position reports at all for the I-gates. If YAAC doesn't receive position reports about the I-gates themselves, it will never "know" where
they are.

On Ercan's original screenshot, the I-gate stations were using the green digipeater star icon with the red question mark overlay, indicating a vicinity plot (i.e.,
a not-so-wild guess as to the location of a station without a position report).?
No station that had sent a real position report message would be using that icon/overlay combination because question marks aren't legal overlay characters; YAAC uses it for exactly that reason to indicate vicinity-plotted stations
until it hears a position report about that station itself, when it will locate the station at its reported location instead of the best-guess with the station's correct icon.

If you don't like vicinity plotting, you can turn it off in the YAAC expert-mode Configuration dialog on the Behavior tab.

Mark, I usually don't take requests but if it's something annoying the ham community, and I have some time, I can go in and fix things. That said, there are a ton of videos on YouTube, written resources online, and other cartographers in chat rooms that can help you learn how to do it yourself.? The OSM Wiki (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org) is a great resource for finding out how things are expected to be tagged. 开云体育Bad news. The date of the weekly OSM snapshot that was posted 5 days ago started the export 4 days before that, i.e., it took 4 _days_ to do the export. Which makes me guess that the next transactional export started a day before Eric made the
edit, so his fixes won't show up until the export after that starts on August 6th, which won't be available until August 10th, and therefore not processed and posted by me until at least the 12th.

Re: Map edits for OSM
Get an account on the openstreetmap.org website, then use the web-based map editors (I usually use iD) to correct existing entries or draw new ones. For example, I went around my neighborhood and plotted the location of every fire hydrant, and then used iD to add new Nodes for each fire hydrant at the appropriate coordinates with the attribute emergency=fire_hydrant.
However, if you do make changes, please make sure they are accurate, precise, and correct. You've already seen the problems caused by erroneous input data. Better not to enter anything than to enter something wrong.
