Get an account on the openstreetmap.org website, then use the web-based map editors (I usually use iD) to correct existing entries or draw new ones. For example, I went around my neighborhood and plotted the location of every fire hydrant, and then used iD to add new Nodes for each fire hydrant at the appropriate coordinates with the attribute emergency=fire_hydrant.
However, if you do make changes, please make sure they are accurate, precise, and correct. You've already seen the problems caused by erroneous input data. Better not to enter anything than to enter something wrong.

I just updated Lake Anna to be natural=water and water=reservoir. The ways were also all out of whack in the multipolygon but those have been remedied as well. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
