I've uploaded my panel file to that folder called 'Scott Rixon'.

I also removed Java from my linux box, then put it back, made no difference to the slow down.

Dear Steve G,

On reflection, I'm not sure at all what made me assume you were referring to MS Windows!

I shall investigate more. Another person has also suggested the fault may not be present if I use 4.11.3.

I will thus try various things this morning.

I had tried the latest stable release but not 4.11.3.

Hi Dave,
I have spent the last two days trying to figure out the problem with the PanelPro tables not opening.
Just install the Test release 4.11.3. all the tables are displayed with this version.

Locked Re: JMRI logo question

There¡¯s more information about this kind of thing here:

but that page uses a bit too much jargon in the interest of being brief. Basically, if you¡¯re using the JMRI logo, name, etc, to point at JMRI itself, you¡¯re fine. You can use the name and logo to talk about JMRI because that¡¯s what they represent. (It would be nice to have the jmri.org URL somewhere on the flyer, as that¡¯s a way to make clear what you¡¯re referring to, but it¡¯s certainly not required)

What causes trouble is when somebody uses one of the names (JMRI, DecoderPro, etc) or one of the logos to point to something _other_ than JMRI, effectively claiming the JMRI name or logo as their own. (Yes, it has happened, but not very often) Just don¡¯t do that, and you¡¯re good.

Thanks for asking!

Bob

Locked JMRI Ops: Same cars on staging train & co-joined cars

Hi, folks --

I'm encountering two problems with JMRI Ops.

1) My staging yards are fiddle yards and are at opposite ends of the layout; classification yard is in the middle of the layout. I've got two locals that leave the classification yard, switch industries, and end in upper staging with perhaps 5 cars each. They get terminated. I then build a 10-car through freight that starts in upper staging and ends in lower staging with no switching in between, and gets terminated. That's the first half of the session. In the second half of the session there's a 10-car through freight that goes from lower staging to upper staging -- that engine becomes the through freight engine that goes from upper to lower in the next session -- the one I mentioned at the beginning.

The problem is: the 10-car through freight that goes upper to lower gets assigned exactly the same cars it came to upper staging with in the previous session, even though there are 10 additional cars sitting in upper staging that the program could choose from.

Am I missing some sort of setting or what's going on?

2) A friend gave me two boxcars and I entered those into the roster. The program keeps those two cars together all the time So if a way freight needs to drop cars at an industry, the program puts BOTH of those cars at the industry. When it's time to pick up the cars, they BOTH get picked up and put back in the classification yard. I've never seen the cars go their separate ways in the 5 or 6 sessions I've run since receiving the cars. And I notice the fact that they're always together because they're new to my eye. In other words, I can't say that that's not happening with other, more familiar cars, too.

Again: am I missing some sort of setting? Or is this just normal for the program?

Thanks!

I had a similar experience last week migrating JMRI to a new(er) laptop. I installed Mint 18.3 and following instructions on the JMRI web site, installed Oracle java 8. The initial execution of Decoder Pro went through the initializing process ok. When it finished, but before terminating it, I could open the PanelPro menu, but from there could not open the Edit/Preferences. After terminating that session, if I tried to launch PanelPro, it showed the gray JMRI splash screen and started the Loconet Simulator window, but froze right there.
After several variations, I installed Mint 18.3 from scratch again, then tried java -version. It told me that no java was installed, but that the distribution included packages for java 8 and java 9. I used the Software Manager app to install "default-jre". It installed openjdk-8-jre. I installed JMRI, and PanelPro appears normally and seems to work properly. I am only using the Operations features, so this is not a complete test, but it may be worth trying on your system.
My conclusion is that there is some issue with the Oracle package on Mint 18, perhaps a dependency or compatibility problem, but the openjdk built in to the distribution avoids the problems.
I just migrated to this new laptop last week and don't have much invested in it yet, so if there is some test I could run to narrow down the problem, let me know.

JMRI (or its version) have nothing to do with the PTB100 and its presence or absence.

If your decoders programmed fine with it in place, I wouldn't worry. It's extremely unlikely to do any damage. I'm sure that if there was any risk, SoundTraxx would have issued a warning with its decoders, particularly since they also make the PTB100.

Can I damage the decoder? Will using the PTB100 cause the decoder to "misbehave"? I have programed several 200's over the past 12 months all the while using the PTB and while I don't notice anything unusual, now I'm thinking maybe I should "reset" the decoder without the PTB.

Dave (and Spuds), I have added virtual masts ;wrong way' and set up the
logic by hand for the turnouts and blocks approaching that mast - which
works to the required spec. I have used three aspect masts simply because
that is what is on the panel, and would allow me to see further up the
track if I expand this later - interestingly the default was green, but
quickly worked out that setting it to stop gave me the yellow aspect on
approach to the junction needed. Thanks for the help! John

PS: never had these problems in Linux Mint, so I was wondering if there is something different with Linux Korora.

JMRI 4.1

java v 1.8.0_151

That was a really good guess though, indeed the all but one of the options were set to internal so I changed them to loconet.

Now the power button in JMRI shows "unknown" and clicking on it does nothing.
