Re: Engine Driver timeout problem
Stephen Winter
I have a similar timeout issue with my setup (WiThrottle on Phones). From
what I've been able to track down, my problem appears more to be my Wifi network, not my old slow laptop. I actually brought up a packet sniffer, and didn't even see the packets hitting the laptop in a timely manner, so eventhough you have a "strong" signal, you may still be getting internference from other networks nearby, or someone else on the same wireless network may be hogging all the space. -Stephen |

They are BD20’s with a common ground using inputs 1-4. Four having the same result doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue. I was trying to Reach NCE today but they’re website is mostly down. I’m getting a flash on the LED’s on the AIU that correspond with the JMRI sensor display. But only when the trains cross the block gaps. In case it could be a voltage issue (I don’t have a voltmeter handy.), I swapped out one power lead from 18Ga to 22Ga wire and got a third loop around the BD20’s coil. It had no impact on the issue. I think I’ll need a software solution to the problem. Maybe using a memory variable when it clicks on that resets when it clicks off. Martin Ozolins mdozolins@... Re: Just wondering if anyone was here
Bob,
I'm a Mac OS X user (10.8.6) having trouble getting my C/MRI sensors to work on my PanelPro layout. It was working (but not anymore) on another Mac OS X (10.4.5) with no problems. I unplugged the serial adapter while running PanelPro and received an error message saying that "the serial adapter was disconnected". After that I could not get the sensors to display on the layout using 10.4.5. So, with a new Mac I though it was finally time to install everything on 10.8.6 but still no sensors are working on the panel layout. Can you suggest some trouble shooting that I might try. Re: Engine Driver timeout problem
Hi David,
Thanks for the kind words. Regarding the fast clock, you're in luck! Robin Becker has just added an option for a title bar fast clock to the latest test version of EngineDriver. You can download it from the enginedriver.rrclubs.org website and manually install it for a test drive. Please advise results. As for the "lost connection", it seems unlikely that the laptop speed is an issue. What do you have the refresh rate set to? (Preferences, Web Server, Refresh Delay). You might try increasing the Delay to see if that helps your issue. Regards, SteveT |

Engine Driver timeout problem
Folks,
Firstly, I cannot praise the people behind Withrottle/Engine Driver enough - I haven't seen a big-name brand wireless throttle that allows touch screen selection of loco by name and photo with blissful disregard of address, selection of route and turnout by name with blissful disregard of address and consistency in operation so I no longer care what brand system I have to drive, I have the comfort of familiarity. This almost puts and end to the "which brand DCC should I buy" debate - it doesn't make much difference, just plug in JMRI and Withrottle and you no longer care. Secondly, how quickly we move from being spoiled to being greedy. A small, fast clock on the throttle screen would be useful. I know that has been discussed before and that I can have it in a web page that uses almost half the screen and that I can have it on a screen of its own I can access by turning my phone to landscape. A friend suggested that the only other thing he needed was to have is running schedule on his phone so then he'd have all he needed in his hand and he'd be in heaven. Now my problem. I was running with JMRI 3.4 on someone's quite old laptop running Win XP with WiThrottle and two operators. While running using DecoderPro, all seemed pretty fine. When we switched to PanelPro (to get the fast clock) we were repeated getting "lost connection" messages. The WiFi signal was strong and did not appear to be having any difficulty. Is this a symptom of using a laptop that ought to be in retirement or is there another possibility that I should investigate? Kind regards, David. |

Re: Default text color change
Ken,
The default track colour option only changes the track colour for segments of track that haven't been assigned a block and therefore do not have their own way of setting the colour. However any new segments of track that do have a new block configured will use the default track colour, but will not change if the default track colour is subsequently changed. It is this latter method that the text follow. Regards Kevin |

Re: Error in the Digitrax TF4 definition?
I found a decommissioned TF4 in my spare decoders and made some tests with two LEDs connected to white and yellow leads.
I confirm that contrary to what Digitrax documentation (both 02/02 and 2010 versions) says, 0 is fastest and 7 is slowest values for CV62. Actually this had been already discussed in this group ( ). Moreover I also noticed that: - CV62 controls the effect rate of BOTH white and yellow outputs. These two outputs are also in opposite phase, and I didn't find a way to change this. - CV63 seems to produce NO change on anything whatsoever. I can't read the version of this decoder (no motor load connected). I purchased it in 2009 and it was shipped with the 02/02 version of the documentation. It might be that Digitrax have made some changes to the decoder firmware since the initial documentation publication. I'll put a note in the TF4 decoder file and on the function pane to avoid having to raise the point again. Alain LM |

Yes, I have already used that process but am wondering why the text color can't be changed all at once just like the track color. It would be much faster for sure. Can that feature be added? Thanks, Ken On 6/6/2014 6:44 PM, kw.dickerson@... [jmriusers] wrote:

Re: Error in the Digitrax TF4 definition?
The initial decoder file created in 2005 was set as per Digitrax documentation (0=slowest / 7=fastest).
This was changed in 2008/2009 by Matt Harris. The version comments in the decoder file do not specifically explain this change. @Matt (I think that you are still around) : do you remember the reason for this change ? @Brian : do you have the possibility to make some tests with your own set up by temporary changing the values? Re: Backups - A Cautionary Tale
I use Memeo backup. This program came with an external hard drive I bought several years ago and I have been quite happy with it. It backs up designated files/folders as they are changed in real time. It is not a resource hog - I don't notice it running in the background. Restoring using Memeo will recreate the file structure, but the files themselves are not hashed so you can copy the backup directly if needed. Multiple backup versions can be kept, but this can quickly turn into a very backup set. I've used the program several times when transferring data between computers.

Greg / Bill and members interested in backups Norton's Ghost was a great product and I still use it for my backups. Unfortunately, Norton has now discontinued Norton's Ghost. Company greed found out that it was a product they could not sell a "renewable subscription for an annual fee" like their anti-virus software, so they discontinued it. There are still copies available on ebay and version works for W 7 and earlier versions of Windows.Depending on the type of hard drive you use, Western Digital makes their own imaging product that works great and it is FREE. Nero is another reliable company that makes a great suite of software products and one of the programs is also an imaging product. The advantage with Ghost is that you could create a bootable disc in the event your hard drive went toast. If you backed up your system to an external drive,( I do not know of any other way) you could install the new drive and boot with the disc and do a complete restore from your last backup file. It WAS a great product. Today's method of backing up to a "cloud" is as risky as posting your social security number on a chat site. If it is not under your control, someone will find a way to hack into it just like Target this past Christmas. Good luck with the backup, Nick Kulp |

Robin, At the club on the staging yard panel, I use sensors to trigger a route. The route would be entering or exiting each track in the yard. So clicking on track 4 enter sensor, for example, triggers a route which throws switch for track 4, closes all other switches and sets all their sensors to INACTIVE. To initialize the panel when loaded, I use the following script. Maybe it will work for you. __________________________________________________________ (don’t put this line in the script file) # Script to set all turnouts on a panel to the "CLOSED" state. # It uses the entries in the Turnout Table created by Panel Pro # The wait time is currently set to 0.5 seconds. class setStartup(jmri.jmrit.automat.AbstractAutomaton) : def init(self): return def handle(self): sensorList = ["ISSTG4IN","ISSTG1OUT","ISWI"] for sensorName in sensorList: sensors.provideSensor(sensorName).setState(ACTIVE) return False # all done, don't repeat again setStartup().start() # create one of these, and start it running __________________________________________________________ (don’t put this line in the script file) If you want the initial state to “inactive” substitute INACTIVE (case matters) sensorList is a list of the sensors you want to set to a state. Marshall Phoenix Hi. I have a series of Routes, and each one has its own Internal Sensor assigned to “Enter Sensor that Activates when Route Turnouts are correctly aligned”. Each route contains a single Loconet turnout, and the turnout table shows that each Turnout has a known state – either open or closed. However the Sensor associated with each Route is in state Unknown. If I Set a Route then the associated Sensor will change to Active. If I manually set the turnout in a Route, as I watch the Sensor table the associated Route sensor will change from Unknown to Inactive very briefly and then show Active. Perhaps there is a timing issue at start up between evaluation of the Route Sensors and completion of the Loconet interrogation sequence that determines the state of the turnouts, or perhaps it is something else. If any case, is there a workaround script that I could run that would cause the state of the Route Sensors to properly initialize? Thanks.
