My blown finals
My rig died a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the early Dec 2000 rigs. I had batteries in the radio. I had it connected into my new Tokyo HiPower amp. I pluged in the external power cable to my big

Is the green LED lit while trying to receive on 2m? You may want to try re-seating the ribbon connector regardless. -JohnT (KB5HWS) finished

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Because the user could have contributed to the problem as well - overheated it by operating in an enclosed case - applied overvoltage - change the calibration settings to disable SWR-protection,

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
If Yaesu is aware it's an obvious problem. Why would they not fix them for free for anyone with a radio made before a determined date or lot number or ser. number, whatever? To bad it's not a safety

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Very interesting! We went through a long drawn out thread here on the list a while back that was exactly about what you experienced. As I recall, several people complained that their 817's finals died

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
BELIEVE ME, no one babys his rigs like I do! I've been hamming for 20 years and never blew a final on anything! In fact, I was a bit skeptical about all of these blown final claims. But, there does

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
Mine blew about three days after the anniversary -- grin. There's been a lot of speculation why the 817 PA's go, and I cling to mine; those power FET's were new technolgy, and the reliability wasn't

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
That $300 is for replacing the entire PA assemby -- basically, the back half of the radio, switched harmonic filters and all. I made the mistake of asking the Vertex-Stndard folks for the amplier

Re: [allowed] Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
The absence of failure on already repaired units would give credence to the bad batch theory. Let's hope that's the case. Regarding the CB finals, they do not have to pump these 5W from 1.8 to 450

Re: Anyone Besides Yaesu Replace Finals?
I'm curious about all these final failures. How are you guys using the rigs? Are you using those "toys" like the "One Big Punch" or something? But then again, if that were a problem, I'd expect them

Just a suggestion, but I wonder if you explain tthe situation about the rig sitting in the box for a year, maybe they will honor the warranty even though the rig is out of warranty. I've heard of it

That $300+ repair really sucks, considering many of us got the radio brand new at Dayton for $499.99. PERRY wrote:
