Just a suggestion, but I wonder if you explain tthe situation about
the rig sitting in the box for a year, maybe they will honor the
warranty even though the rig is out of warranty. I've heard of it
happening before. They should be able to tell the rig has little use
on it.

it! I'm mad as a hornet. And, no, I've made NO mods or otherwise
abused the rig. So, I e-mailed Yaesu asking for a quote on
repairs.
