That $300 is for replacing the entire PA assemby -- basically, the
back half of the radio, switched harmonic filters and all. I made the
mistake of asking the Vertex-Stndard folks for the amplier price and
was also shocked, but it's not as if I'd asked for a light bulb.

Forty dollars for the PA transistor board is, by the way, a
reasonable price, and kudos to the designers for making that repair
possible; the FET package isn't meant to be resoldered with a pencil-
type soldering iron.

By the way, price your car in terms of replacing it part by part,
some time. You could make a living buying cars retail, dissambling
them, and selling the pieces. (You make MORE if you just steal them
and run 'em through a clandestine chop shop -- a common practice.)
