If Yaesu is aware it's an obvious problem. Why would
they not fix them for free for anyone with a radio made
before a determined date or lot number or ser. number,
whatever? To bad it's not a safety issue, then they
would be recalled like cars!

That $300+ repair really sucks, considering many of us got the radio
brand new at Dayton for $499.99.

Thanks, Mike! The e-mail I got from Yaesu was steering me away from
doing it myself. I will check out that file. Thanks for your help!

Replacing FT817 finals is pretty easy - screwdriver, soldering-
iron,
multimeter. In the FILES section, have a look in
the "Technicalities
and Repairs" and "Repairs" folders for detailed instructions.
You only need to buy the Final Unit.
People have replaced just the Final FETs, but it is much more
difficult and not much cheaper. The only alignment required in
either
case, is to set the Idle Current.

Well, for as much as I spent on the 817, I got only ONE CW QSO
out
of
it! I'm mad as a hornet. And, no, I've made NO mods or
otherwise
abused the rig. So, I e-mailed Yaesu asking for a quote on
repairs.
Here's what they're sticking:
P/N CB1152001 PA UNIT $266.97 EACH, IN-STOCK
P/N CB1333001 FINAL UNIT 43.88 EACH, IN STOCK
And, this isn't including the labor!
Does anyone know of any reputable place that can do the job?

P.S., I may have a great little portable MF-UHF Yaesu receiver
for
sale here soon!
HI Pete
I replaced my transistors last year wasn't too bad..then I found out
the $43 bd was avalible..that would be a piece of cake...I would get
the cb1333oo1 final unit and do it your self..I think its three
solder connections and two screws..73 Perry
