Re: Fun With Packaging, Track Department

Mine was a white Ford CT with aluminum wheels and silicone slicks, brush spring "enhancement" and added weight in the rear. None of my friends' cars could touch it. It was a bit tricky because it would do wheelies very easily. It sure hugged the track, though.
?
My stepson now has the car. He collects HO scale slot cars and has some pretty valuable ones. I gave him my 1964 Thuderjet set #1302 and my cars in a Pit-Kit carrying case, extra track and obstacle course set.

I did do a google search for "Atlas HO Motoring" as that's what Atlas named their series, but didn't see anything mounted on the pink style card. Most of the stuff was in blue and yellow boxes, similar to Aurora. Oddly enough, I did see a track section mounted on a card with the typical N scale colors - kind of the off orange color at the top and the rest yellow.

Re: Fun With Packaging, Track Department

I hadn't thought of these cards originally being intended only for their HO slot cars and just put the car on there because they were the big deal, at the time, but you could be right. The cards could be bubbled with anything that would fit on them.
?
I almost exclusively had Aurora Thunderjet 500 stuff so I don't remember, at all, seeing Atlas bubble pack slot car stuff.

Re: History of Atlas N Advertising #1 - July 1967

I was in Nichol's Hobby Shop here, in the summer of 1967 and I don't even remember what for, unless it was just one of those times when it felt like I should stop in there and look around because...you know. I was still running Treble-O-Lectric trains then so it probably had to do with trains even though Max Nichol didn't have any Lone Star stuff.
?
Anyway, I, of course, checked out all the stuff in the glass cases and there it was! The display of the first Atlas freight cars! I can still feel the excitement! Which one to buy. Which one to buy! I only had enough money for one. I finally settled on the Norfolk Southern composite gondola. I guess because I thought it was the most interesting of the ones there.
?
I got it home and was absolutely amazed at how much smoother and easier it rolled compared my Treble-O-Lectric cars. It wasn't long before I bought a few more cars - the Blatz, the National Dairy Dispatch, the Shell tanker, etc. And by November, I had a Santa Fe E8. Wonderful times!

In case the softening of the plastic is caused by oil contamination,? soak the wheels overnight in Isopropyl alcohol, then a good brush with an old toothbrush,? a final flush and dry well before applying the glue

Hi Dan,
OK, I do have an Atlas Pacific and can confirm drivers are plastic with metal rim. I thought this was a leftover from another project, but unfortunately it IS a project I put away about 5 years ago and forgot to come back to. The loco now has a NWSL can motor and improved pickup on the tender, but still needs paint and details. I’m sorry, I thought I could help, but alas this engine still needs its drivers.
Cheers,
