Commander from dx suites
10
Has anyone here used dx commander and dx suites as well as WSJTX With the 847? I also have an icom ic 7300 and love the way it integrates. If it works as well with the 847 I will set that up also moatly for vhf/uhf logging. Please forgive me about typos. I am only on my first cup of coffee and my thumbs cover about six keys on my phones keyboard. Thanks ahead of time Gerry KB9PKI

Null cable
7
I see several suggestions to buy the RT Systems cable at 30.00. I also see null cables for between 20.00 and 50.00 but I found an adapter for 3.00. I had several FTDI cables so I couldn't see spending that extra money. Fleabay has null cable adapters for 3.00 with free shipping. They are plainly marked on the cases NULL so they don't get mixed up with your gender changers for your Kenwood radios. Sandor KG4FET

CAT CONTROL Software???
4
Who is using CAT CONTROL and what is the best software for controlling the FT-847? I am about to delve into CAT CONTROL of my FT-847...I have had this rig for many years but never have pursued SOFTWARE to control it. Thus, I am wide open to what the best way to go is. HELP appreciated. Rather than just use a standard Null SERIAL Cable, I did order the RT Systems cable. GARY W7FSI

Looking for Replacement Sub Tune Encoder
4
So I sold my FT-847 to help fund a IC-9700. The ham who purchased it wanted to return it because he said the AM on the low bands had no carrier when the radio was keyed. So I took it back as I was trying to be a nice guy and refunded his money. Radio came back and the SUB TUNE knob was broken off and the face plate cracked. Repaired the face plate (cant even tell that it was broken) and fixed the encoded shaft but the encoded internally is damaged. Any one know where to get a replacement SUB TUNE encoder or do I now have to scrap it for parts? Thanks, Will - N7IPY

70Mhz
5
Hi everyone, I have owned my FT847 for a very long time, maybe 20 years. It is a UK version that has usually worked on 70Mhz, but has stopped putting any power out recently. The radio goes into TX on 4m, but does not put any power out (measured on a Bird meter so there may be mW.). The radio has the L5006 mod from http://www.70mhz.org/847mods.htm and worked fine for 10 years or more. The radio works fine on 50MHz so I know the PA stages are not kaput. I have done a factory reset several times and do not know what to look at next. Can anyone give me any clues? Thanks Steve, M0BPQ

FT-847 roofing filter mod
Hi all, Anyone know if the board is still available for the mod adding the roofing filter to this radio? I’ve checked on the InRad site and the filter’s still there but not the board... The experimenters boards all show as out of stock too. If anyone has a board sitting around..? Cheers, Andy M0DEL

FT 847 VARIATIONS
4
Hello. I have a faulty FT 847 serial number 6G070383. The problem is Q1105 CPU of the AF-CNTL board doesn't get is 5 supply. According to the the service manual, this voltage comes for 5 volts regulator Q1134, LM8705ua chip. Unfortunately I cant find this chip and all the relevant components on both sides of the board, so I cant trace the fault. So please, if someone has any info about this, please let me know. 73 Michael 4X1LM

Replacement Part
Well somehow I managed to loose/misplace one of the 2 smaller rubber button inserts when I had the display unit disassembled for other repairs. This was the Tuner Button Rubber insert in the face plate. I was wondering if anyone has a parts radio that would be willing to sell me a replacement rubber part. Thanks, Will - N7IPY

Chattering or Flickering
4
Hello All Has anyone had either of these 2 symptoms on their 847? When powering up or occasionally during operation to chatter or flicker causing you to restart controller software. I have had it, now, several times. It sounds like relays trying to make contact. If this has happened, is there a fix? Thank you 73 Douglas VE3FFR

VHF Packet audio
7
I have a Ft-847, signalink, and using agwpe but I am having problems with getting mine setup for FM packet. I have everything working and confirm it works on my FT-8900 which successfully sends packets audio but I can not get the 847 to pass the transmit audio. When I send a beacon the signalink keys up the 847 but no audio is passed through to the radio. The 847 will receive packets and it will pass computer audio from other sources through the 847 and key up the radio but no audio. I also did see the renaming the USB audio names and like I said it works very well on the 8900 but I'm lost. I did try playing with the tx delay in agwpe but still no change. So to summarize: * 8900 No issues and works as normal *847 -Keys radio but no audio for tx with no changes to setup. -Does key and pass system sounds when set to do so. I appreciate any help that might solve my issue or special settings needed to get the audio to pass.

5 pin mini DIN plug FS
3
Yaesu uses a 5 pin mini DIN plug on the FT-847. This plug is used as a connector for a cable to key a linear amplifier. Actually they use the same connector for HF, VHF, and UHF amps. I had a very hard time finding a connector that fit. Some (I assume from China) did not fit right. I found some that DO fit fine. I assume they are American, or possibly Japanese. In any case, they do fit OK. In order to get any kind of a decent price I needed to buy ten. I need one to use on the rig, and want to keep one spare. That leaves eight available, for sale. They are $5 each (yes, I will end up making about a 16 cent profit!), plus shipping. I can ship one, two, or three via first class mail for $4.60. It is quite possible that these 5 pin mini DINs are used on other rigs beside the FT-847. Please let me know how many you want. Thanks. 73, Ken, W8EK Ken Simpson E-mail to W8EK@... or W8EK@... FT847 direct TX after turning on TRX ( Not MOX )
2
Hi FT847 users I have a question: I have a FT847 that will transmit immediately when I turn ON the TRX not always but nearly always Now and then the TRX works fine for some time , then suddenly starts to transmit on its own Some info: MOX knob is NOT the cause Nothing is connected, no microphone, only the antenna and power cable , so no external cause No short inside the 8P Microphone connector Did anyone see this problem before ? please let me know here in the FT847 Group or DIRECT via pa3dol@... Many thanks in advance Best 73 Sjoerd PA3DOL

FT847 QRP for TRANSVERTER
FT847 QRP or QRPp for TRANSVERTER HI I have to use a low power output, with no possibility of high power error, to drive an external transverter for 13 and 23cm or QO100 upconverter. I would not always want to have the low power but have an extra output for the transverter and use its original PL/N output, still the maximum power of 50w to V & U and use a QRP/QRPp output for the transverter independently and securely? Any advice on how this can be done on the FT847? Thank you and greetings 73

Can FT-847 power 2 preamps with total current of 400mA
6
I just acquired a used FT-847 and plan to use it for VHF/UHF work including getting into satellites. I have one question. I plan to get preamps and am looking at 2M and 75cm mast preamps from Advanced Receiver Research. They require 200mA each. The Yaesu manual says it can supply 300mA to the VHF AND/OR UHF connectors. I am confused if this a total for both connectors conbined or 300 mA each? Looking at the schematic I see there is one current limiter for both connectors so I assume this is a total number. I am wondering if anyone has run into this? Thanks, Bruce, WB6IZG

Service Manual - differences
For those technically inclined: The available pdf service manual (technical supplement) is version 1.2. There must be a version 1.0 or 1.1. My RF board layout (backside) does not match the manual (or the schematic). Specifically, C3018 has a three leaded device (like a SOT-23) hooked to it (and it is shorted). It's not Q3004 - that is a four leaded device. There is no UHF reception and this is the reason why - signal is shorted to ground here. thx, Alan, W4FBI
