Introductions
Good Afternoon Everyone, First let me welcome you to the group. I will be uploading the files here in the next day or two as I go thru them to get rid of the duplicates. My name is Russ Abbey, N4MAV and I live in the mountains of Virginia. Actually South Western Virginia. I've been here now for about 22 years and have 12 acres of land to play in....er work in. I have enough wires enough to wrap the whole property and am hoping to be able to do so this cool weather we have had. I am also in the process of putting up two towers. One is a 40 foot Rohn 25 and the other one will be Rohn 45 and have I hope 130 feet but I think that may be to much for my climber to work with though. And since he is a volunteer well I have to please him. I own mostly Yaesu equipment, FT-847, FT-2000D, FTM400DR (X=2), FT-736r (6,2,220, 440), FT-8800 (X=2), Icom 706M2G, TYT-9800 1-1/4 meter band (X=2), various HT's and a whole lot of test equipment I am learning to use. I was medically retired from the US. Navy in 1988 with sever back injuries so I had to have a hobby I could and can use daily. So I became a ham and have not looked back. Since I have a very short time I can be at my desk anymore it takes me a whole lot longer to do things and also keep up with the house and property. So there ya go. Oh, I also have 5 and 10 GHz transverters I have yet to build, but that will be this winter. 73 Russ de:n4mav

Files 5
Hi All, I just uploaded all of the files from the Yahoo group. Now for the sticky part. I have to limit the size of files that are uploaded to the board so at present members can view and download (I hope set that right) and you can upload a file but it will have to be approved by the moderators. Thank you all for signing up, you understanding, and showing your interest in the FT-847! 73 Russ, N4MAV

Coax 144Mh 12V ? 2
Hi all, I do not have 12V voltage measured at the output of the 144 Mhz socket behind the ft-847. Menu # 29 is activated on "Ant". The same measurement on 430 Mhz with menu # 30 on "Ant" gives 12V. It seems that a transistor does not work anymore. An idea to look for? Jerome f8aof

My internal keyer isn't working 3
Hi guys, I'm restoring an old FT-847 damaged by lightning a lot of years ago and had been lying in the schack collecting dust, according to the previous owner. After replacing the main CPU on the AF/CNTRL board the radio woke up from it's Cinderella sleep and the most things are ok now except the internal keyer. I have also replaced the one-chip microprocessor MB8854-1244M which in fact is the keyer. It is impossible to key the transmitter in CW-mode, nothing happens when I try. I have run out of ideas and if someone has any suggestions please share them with me. 73 Nils SM7DVO

*WTB* Yaesu FT 847 parts needed 3
I inherited an FT 847 from my late Brother's estate. The town building inspector shipped me some items from his estate to me in California, one of which was my brothers' FT 847. Unfortunately he had no knowledge of proper packaging, and in transit something happened to it on it's first transfer in Springfield MA, and knobs on the front were bent/broken. I am in need of this control: SQL and keyer speed I contacted Yaesu and was able to obtain the Mic/RF PWR control so I can replace the existing one, and with very careful manipulation fixed the DSP control. Does anyone have an old non-working 847 (burned up finals) with good front controls that you'd be willing to part with as a parts radio? Yaesu tells me some of these controls are no longer available through them. Please help. TNX & 73 Dave / KI6JPE

Wanted: FT-847 (ideally in UK) 5
Looking to buy an 847 (had one when they were new) , probably only in the UK as the weight probably makes overseas deals impractical. Wanted primarily for SSB above 30MHz, so might consider a model with faulty HF. Initially, I'd like to look for an exchange deal against a large collection of ham, military and marine radio equipment, which I need to part with to create some shack and living space! List avaolable! Best regards, Bob

UHF Preamp not working 3
I have an FT-847 that I use almost exclusively for satellite work. With RS-44 now activated I'm using mode J (2m up, 70cm down) a lot and I've noticed that when I press the "RF AMP" button the transceiver goes deaf. I've confirmed that it's not the switch as the internal preamp works fine when receiving on 2m. I've checked menu option 30 and it's set to "INT" so that's not the problem. So, does anyone have any ideas? If I'm reading the schematic correctly the RF AMP switch enables Q3009 for 70cm. On the diagram it's marked as IMD3(D3). Does anyone have another part number that it cross-references to?

VR6501 5
Does anyone have the Yaesu and/or manufacturer’s part number for VR6501? This is the dual 10k pot used to control AF and RF. My shaft got bent due to the sellers horrible packing. I scoured all the different forms of the service manual and I could not find a comprehensive parts list like what is found on newer rigs. I saw the earlier post about Yaesu-UK, but due to shipping delays from UK, I want to try to get the part in the US.
