N3FJP Country Files - 31 January 2025
There are new country files for ACLog and related software by N3FJP. To update the country files from the logging program menu, select: Files -> Download Country Files From AD1C You should download all three files. When done, you can re-start your logging program. Manual installation instructions are here: https://www.country-files.com/n3fjp-info/ Here are the release notes: https://www.country-files.com/n3fjp-31-january-2025/ N3FJP Country Files - 31 January 2025 Version entity is Clipperton I., FO0 Added Prefixes/Callsigns: * M0EDQ is Scotland, GM/t * KL1TU, KH0QOL and KD5AJC are all USA, K in CQ Zone 3, ITU Zone 6 * NP4AX, KE4UXQ and KE4SVI are all USA, K in CQ Zone 4, ITU Zone 8 * WH6EST is USA, K in CQ Zone 5, ITU Zone 8 * KG5GBZ is Hawaii, KH6 * KG7PAH and KG7PAF are both Alaska, KL7 * SV2/SV1RP/T and SV1GA/A are both Mount Athos, SV/A * UE82AWD, UB5O/M, RX3Q/M, RO2E/M, R900RO, R900DV, R900DM, R900BL, R7AB/M and R1CF/M are all European Russia, UA in CQ Zone 16, ITU Zone 29 * R9HAF/M is Asiatic Russia, UA9 in CQ Zone 18, ITU Zone 31 * RV1CC/0 is Asiatic Russia, UA9 in CQ Zone 19, ITU Zone 25 * VK9YB is Norfolk I., VK9N * KC4/KB1IFZ and KC4/KB1EHE are both South Shetland Is., VP8/H Removed Prefixes/Callsigns: * EA9PD in Spain, EA * W3NX in USA, K in CQ Zone 3, ITU Zone 6 * KL1TU in USA, K in CQ Zone 4, ITU Zone 7 * KE4UXQ in Hawaii, KH6 * SV2/SV1RP/T in Mount Athos, SV/A * UB5O/M, RO2E/M, R8FF, R7AB/M, R1CF/M and R900 in European Russia, UA in CQ Zone 16, ITU Zone 29 * RX3Q/M in Asiatic Russia, UA9 in CQ Zone 17, ITU Zone 30 * R9HAF/M in Asiatic Russia, UA9 in CQ Zone 18, ITU Zone 31 * RV1CC/0 in Asiatic Russia, UA9 in CQ Zone 19, ITU Zone 34 If you have any questions, send E-mail to Jim Reisert AD1C (at the address below) or make a post to the N3FJP software users reflector. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, <jjreisert at alum.mit.edu>, https://ad1c.us

Should I panic?

#aclog
I opened up ACLog this morning and was surprised to find only log entries from WFD and CWT dated 2025/01/25 to 2025/01/29 instead of my entire log. Looking at my PC, I have files named "all n3fjp LogData-2025-01-Week-4" and older backups, but nothing that's obviously a full backup of my ACLog. What do I do now? 73, Ken KN2D

Software quirks
6
Probably me, but... The call signs are RIGHT JUSTIFIED in the call box. When you right click to get to the end, the undo, cut, etc window pops up. I need a F-key shortcut to place the cursor in the call box. I'm busy using the mouse for something else. Also handy would be the worked map to have a ALL bands result option along with the individual ones. The world map is awesome. I'm having a great time with the 160cw & WFD contests at the same time! Great software! -- 73, Bo W4GHV since '54 https://www.qrz.com/db/W4GHV

Using RI: in CW F key definition - kudos and request to provide way to terminate in progress CW
5
It is really great to be able to define RI: sequences to allow F key sending with my Elecraft KX3. One less box (the WinKeyer) taking up space on the desk, and fewer interconnect wires. Especially nice in a compact portable setup. The ONLY issue I've found is stopping a CW sequence that's in progress. With WinKeyer, it's great that beginning to type (or I guess any key press) terminates the current sending. I wish that could still happen when using RI instead of WinKeyer. I understand the problem: once the command has been sent to the KX3 it's sending it asynchronously and the logger program is not in control or even aware. I think there's a reasonably simple way (I know, easy for me to say...) to fix this: provide a field called maybe "RI: command to interrupt in progress CW". Then for my KX3 I put in "RI:RX;" which aborts whatever is being sent and puts the radio back in receive mode. I have this on an F key, and it works, but it's not nearly as convenient as just start typing. Also, it does not stop the repeating of an F1 CQ. So I have to press F key for RI:RX then ESC (or start typing) to get it to stop. The suggestion is if I start typing, in additional to stopping the CQ loop which you already do, send that special field (if not blank) to the rig. Or maybe, since you know from Rig Control setup it's an Elecraft, then probably you already know the rig command to send and just do it, no special user field needed. This would make RI perfect as far as I can tell. Thanks - Bill N7DZ

#HamDash

#hamdash
Hi Scott, Thanks for absolutely great software. I stopped by one of my local club's WFD setups yesterday (Lake Monroe Amateur Radio Society in the Orlando area) and saw - (better said that I was reminded that) - the club, N4EH, uses N3FJP software - which was probably the original reason I bought it. :) Question: when you use N3FJP contenting software, does it automatically record results to HamDash? Or do you need to log into HamDash separately? 73, Ken KN2D

Winter Field Day: Mapping your contacts
2
You can upload your Winter Field Day ADIF log to: https://www.qsomap.com/wfd.php a QSOMAP.COM subscription IS NOT required for this map. Just click on the above link. I copied the generated HTML and added a background image by adding background_image_url: "https://thesaegers.com/images/wfdfaded.jpeg", to the generated HTML and then copied it to my private website. https://thesaegers.com/wfd2025.htm Hovering a mouse over a worked section (green) displays the stations, band, and mode of stations worked in that section.

Contest questions (WFD)
2
Scott, First of all, this is absolutely awesome. I believe our club has been using N3FJP for our 2nd or 3rd year with contesting so we really enjoy this feature. I have two questions regarding Hamdash itself. First, we noticed that multipliers appeared to be listed for clubs still actively recording qsos. We initially thought they must have been finished and already submitted their logs but we noticed they were still active and running a frequency. I was just curious as to how and when the multipliers get applied. Second is the setup of Hamdash itself. Our club has a mobile trailer with 3 rigs but we may rotate about 10-20 operators on those rigs. We are using 3 rigs connected to their own logging station and 1 pc as the server saving our logs and uploading to hamdash. How do we associate more operators than rigs to appear in Hamdash? If it is not currently, would it be a difficult change to recognize the operator as they sign in? This second part is difficult to put together in words, so forgive me if it seems all over the place. I see on your club's website and Hamdash page how you have many operators. KD2X Steve

Bulk Edit improvement/suggestion
2
Hi Scott and all, I have a suggestion for improving the Bulk Edit functionality: If there is a range of records already selected in the main display, then default the start/end record numbers in the Bulk Edit dialog to the record numbers selected. This can save frustration/embarrassment when more records get edited than intended. -- -Thomas AC9BJ Mount Horeb, WI EN53da he/him/his

Your Favorite Mode for HF Digital Contesting?
25
I am looking to get back into digital contesting, last time PSK-31 was popular. I am on FT8/FT4 but they do not seem piratical for exchanging contest reports, I know of other modes that are popular modes these days , JS8Call, RTTY, ETC for various state/ other digital contest. What is your favorite mode and why you prefer it? I hope to have something ready for this years VA QSO Party. Thanks Steve AG4SO

Newbie: HELP with Elecraft K3s -- Settings for USB & CW
3
First-time user here, with a question on setup and settings for CW (N3FJP general log) using a single, simple USB cable link between laptop and the Elecraft K3S. Please see below. Greetings. I'm looking for suggestions to the easiest, simplest set-up procedure, and settings, for CW mode only, using a single USB cable between a Windows-10 laptop (with N3FJP) and my Elecraft K3-s transceiver. The K3s connects to the above laptop now for normal N1MM, or DXLab CW programs, and for years has worked well with either program, without the use of an external piece of equipment of any kind, and without any additional app or additional software of any kind. I just want to do the same with N3FJP software, and need some guidance on where to look in the many pages of HELP documentation. So far, I have yet to find anything that works, rather, I have found lots of suggestions on adding additional equipment or additional apps/software, none of which I want to touch. Thank you vy much.

Help with Icom IC-9700 Rig Control for 2025 Winter Field Day

Confirmed ports, only one device plugged into the USB Port on the CPU, shows up as COM4 and COM5. The baud rate on the ports and the rig are all 19200. The settings for rig control are as follows: Icom 9700 Rig Name = Icom2 Read Frequency Command = FE FE A2 E0 03 FD Read Mode Command = FE FE A2 E0 04 FD Convert To Hex = True Baud Rate = 19200 Parity = None Stop Bits = 1 Data Bits = 8 Power Option = RTS I get the following messages: I am hooked into the CIV port to a S.A.T controller, using a USB-B to USB-C cable for the COM port and rig control, I've tried multiple different Baud rates, settings, all of the ICOM choices etcv.... stumped.....

Search and Pounce Duplicate Calls
3
I am using CQ CW 160m contest program for the first time. I mostly run but when things get slow, I sweep the band. When I enter a call that turns out to be a duplicate, I turn the dial to the next station (Unassisted). Unfortunately, the duplicate call I just entered stays in the call field, and I need to use the mouse and click on the "Clear" box to make room for the next S&P hopeful. Is there a way of setting the program to clear the call field when I change frequency over a few hundred hertz? Chuck AD4ES

VHF Sprint contests
2
I guess I need guidance for what contest log to use for the NA VHF/UHF contests. Looks like the Sprints are broken up by Phone and CW for the low bands and I don't believe the Vhf Sprints you can run both. So which contest log should we use? Randy WB8ART for K8TQK

Log entry uploaded to LoTW ok but LoTW download does not mark it
3
I have one log entry from the other day that uploaded fine from ACLog to LoTW (I logged into lotw.arrl.org and checked it), but when I download LoTW to ACLog it does not get marked as LoTW QSL. I.e. the line stays black in my log instead of turning green. It was uploaded and signed with a N7DZ/7 certificate (that's the call I used when I made the contact), but I've done that plenty in the past without problem. Now I'm back home and uploading with my home certificate, N7DZ (no /7), and that line causes an upload problem since it's logged with N7DZ/7 and I'm now uploading with N7DZ certificate. If I select the new lines in the log and upload "selected contacts from main log" that works fine. Yes, I know I could just edit the offending line and manually mark it with a check in the QSO Sent, and L in the Sent Conf By. But I'd like to understand what went wrong and avoid it in the future if possible. How to diagnose? Thanks - Bill N7DZ

ACLog keeps rechecking upload real time LOTW
5
Hi, I am using AC Log 7.0.11 and running 2 instances. My laptop is the main log and the other one is for my 6m station. The 6m station feeds into the laptop. I will have other dedicated computers on different bands feeding into the laptop as well in the future. What I am noticing is a shell error that occurs when a contact is made on 6m, upon transfer to the laptop, it is somehow re-enabling the upload to LOTW real time. I keep unchecking but this is happening over and over again. The main log on my laptop never has this issue as it is not set to auto upload after each contact. I tried Juliet with no solution. Any thought would be appreciated. Jamie, K6NGN
