It is really great to be able to define RI: sequences to allow F key sending with my Elecraft KX3. One less box (the WinKeyer) taking up space on the desk, and fewer interconnect wires. Especially nice in a compact portable setup.
?
The ONLY issue I've found is stopping a CW sequence that's in progress. With WinKeyer, it's great that beginning to type (or I guess any key press) terminates the current sending. I wish that could still happen when using RI instead of WinKeyer.
?
I understand the problem: once the command has been sent to the KX3 it's sending it asynchronously and the logger program is not in control or even aware.
?
I think there's a reasonably simple way (I know, easy for me to say...) to fix this: provide a field called maybe "RI: command to interrupt in progress CW". Then for my KX3 I put in "RI:RX;" which aborts whatever is being sent and puts the radio back in receive mode. I have this on an F key, and it works, but it's not nearly as convenient as just start typing. Also, it does not stop the repeating of an F1 CQ. So I have to press F key for RI:RX then ESC (or start typing) to get it to stop. The suggestion is if I start typing, in additional to stopping the CQ loop which you already do, send that special field (if not blank) to the rig. Or maybe, since you know from Rig Control setup it's an Elecraft, then probably you already know the rig command to send and just do it, no special user field needed.
?
This would make RI perfect as far as I can tell.
