Introduction
2
Good morning, group! I stumbled across you this morning when looking for some documentation on the Over Tabley Daniels. It is great to see some names I have interacted with in the past! By way of introduction, I am descended from Capt. William Daniel of Middlesex Co., Virginia through his son James. My line went to Campbell County, Kentucky where I was born and raised. I look forward to having meaningful dialogue with some great minds, logical thinkers, and preservers of primary source documents! I somewhat put my genealogy on the back burner when I returned to working after my husband's untimely death but now have time to dig back in! Sherry Sheryl Neal Slaughter

waqua creel Daniel family
2
i am a direct descendant of “Peter Daniel”, brother of Mabry Daniel. Prevailing theory has it that these brothers are the sons of Sarah/Sally Daniel, daughter of Joseph Daniel Sr., and a mysterious “Peter Daniel”. I have recently taken a y-dna test and the results seem to dispel this theory. Most of my matches indicate that I descent from a “Potts”. Given that Sarah’s sister Elizabeth married a “Potts”, I’m leaning toward an “adoption” theory.

William Daniel of Brunswick
3
Was wondering if anyone has any definitive proof for the children of William Daniel (wife Anne) b. ? died 1786 in Brunswick, being the same as the John , Alexzander (Elleck) and Drury found in Rowan NC ? I believe I have pieced together some things for John and Elleck and it would be nice to be able to confirm that their father was William. I have read Payne Daniel's compilation about the Joseph ,Thomas and William of Brunswick and I know it indicated the connection but is it enough to confirm ?

James & Priscilla Daniel Family, Essex Co. VA?
5
Hi, I’m interested in the family of the James Daniel who md. Priscilla, lived in Essex Co., VA and whose estate was settled in 1764. He was a son of the James Daniel who also lived in Essex Co. and left a will recorded in 1742. Are there any list members who are researching this particular family? Have any descendants of this family done the Y-DNA test? If so, is this family related to any of the other colonial VA Daniel families, or any other Daniel families? It would be very helpful to know! I’ve done the atDNA testing if there are any interested descendants of this family out there. I recently figured out the connection between my Conduit family and the James Daniel family, so am looking for additional information about this family, and also for the other Daniel families so I can steer clear of the other family groups in my research. I’ve been reading through the older Rootsweb lists and message boards and the old Genforum archives. Looks like the Daniel family of Middlesex Co., VA had most of the participants on these lists, or at least the most active ones. Also currently working my way through whatever I can access for Essex & Caroline Co. records. Thanks in advance for any information, ideas, etc. C. Etter

Daniel DNAproject

Hope all is well with every one. Sure will be glad when all is back on track again. I was wondering if any one can tell me who #4180 matches with on the DanielDNA project, please? Levi #12914 is one of his sons. Another son, Nathaniel is also listed with #1480. Also why is there no name associated with this number? I am not very versed on DNA so know very little about it. Also I have begun to doubt the veracity that my direct line of Bazil/Basil et.al. Daniel are the ones listed on the 1790 Pendleton District, South Carolina census record. Although, according to my DNA test, I some how connect with this group; most who won the Georgia Land Lottery. Any help is very appreciated Berlene Jacques 4th great granddaughter of Basil/Bazel Daniel

Blackburn/Daniel connection
4
Wondering if anyone has information on a Thomas Blackburn who married a Sally Daniel , the marriage record is from Caroline co. VA in 1794 , and whether this Thomas Blackburn has any connection to the Thomas that lived and died in Floyd/Pike counties KY. My dad's autosomal dna has matches that appear to trace back to this Thomas Blackburn . Trying to decipher who the dna match actually comes through. Also the Sally Daniel, if anyone has info on who she was, some tree's on Ancestry have her as being the daughter of a Lucretia Daniel who died 1787 , I have seen the will records for this Lucretia and she did have a daughter Sally , she also had a daughter Lucy who married Reuben Tucker ( My dad also has an autosomal match that appears to connect to that line as well) .

Daniels Geneology

Hi, Eleanor. I can't help you with this line, at least at this time. It has no known connection to my O'Daniel, Daniel, Daniell lines in SC. Don't know how much gen research experience you have, so I'll offer a couple of suggestions if I may. 1. Were you familiar with or work with folks in the DANIEL List on rootsweb, com? Ancestry.com bought out Rootsweb and terminated this terrific collaboration site. You can still access the Daniel-L Archives on rootsweb and search for data there. Much was shared and archived on numerous Daniel lines. 2. Kevin Daniel is the project manager of the Daniel DNA Project. Reach him at http://kevindaniel.x10.mx/ If you haven't had an appropriate gen Y-DNA test on a direct male descendant, Kevin can advise what you may need go get. A basic Y-DNA test of 12 markers is totally worthless for discovering family lines, 67 markers and higher 111 markers are more likely to help. Problem is that unless someone directly related to your Daniel line has tested, there can be no match. They would have to be from Robert Seth's brothers, if any, or from descendants of Robert Seth's uncles, if any. He is also moderator of the new free Daniel research site at email address: Daniel groups.io You will have to join the group, but it's free and you may find help from contacts there. 3. There are many records available online at the SC Archives at https://scdah.sc.gov/ Large amounts of info there including land grants and old last wills and testaments. Search by surnames, places. 4. I have a copy of "S. C. WILLS" an Index to "South Carolina Wills 1670 - 1853 or later" Tell me what districts or counties Robert Seth lived in early SC and I can check for surnames county book and page info. Nothing else in the book, it is an index only. You may be able to find it in a library, author Mary Bondurant Warren. Angus Patterson is listed in Barnwell County Book 2 Page 236. I did find Seth Daniel and A. Patterson listed as witnesses in the 7 June 1835 LW&T of William Owen, recorded 19 Mar 1836 in Barnwell Will Book "C", Page 157. As you may know, I did have family in Barnwell District, SC. Best regards, Bob Daniell

DORAN - DANIELS Family Photograph
3
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sarah Josephine DORAN MULLETT which was taken at the Angel Studio in Neosho, MO. It appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Susan likely in her teens or 20's. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Sarah and her family: Sarah Josephine “Josie” DORAN was b. 8 Jul 1875 in Bunceton, MO to parents Benjamin Franklin DORAN (1837-1900) and Lucy DANIELS (1833-1924). Josephine was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Lucy A. J. “Lula”; William “Willis” Franklin Benjamin; Sarah Josephine “Josie”; Mary Belle; and one other, all born between 1864 and 1885. Josephine married Clifford “Cliff” Elmer MULLETT (1879-1965) on 31 Dec 1907 in Bunceton, MO and they had a daughter Josephine MULLETT (b. 1910). Josephine died 28 Apr 1945 in Bunceton, MO and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Bunceton. Her obituary lists a sister Mrs. Lula DORAN JAMES of Bunceton, MO; and her daughter Miss Josephine MULLETT of St. Louis, MO. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks Shelley

John M. Daniel(s)
3
I am looking for information on John M. Daniel(s). We think he may have been born before 1802, possibly in either South Carolina or Virginia. He married Eliza (Elizabeth) Jackson (b Abt. 1801 d 15 Aug 1839) on 13 Jan 1825 in Amite, MS. He is listed in Williams Causey's Will as his grandson. He was apparently brought to Amite, MS with William Causey, presumably from South Carolina, around 1805. Our assumption is that his mother was a Causey and his father was a Daniels and that both of his parents had died before William Causey took him to Amite. I have no information on either of his parents. Since William Causey lived in South Carolina prior to going to Amite, MS we assume that is where John M. lived with his parents. Unfortunately there are no South Carolina records for that time frame available. It is believed that William Causey was in Virginia prior to going to South Carolina and so I think it is a possibility that his daughter may have met and married a Daniels while in Virginia. John and Eliza named their first son William (although that could have been after William Causey) and their second son Josiah. Neither of those names are in Eliza's immediate tree. His first daughter was named Sarah, his second daughter was named Nancy, and his third daughter was named Elizabeth (more than likely after her mother.) Family lore is that Sarah was named after John's mother, but we haven't been able to find any information on a "Sarah Causey." I know this is a long shot, but I am reaching out anywhere possible to see if someone has a John M. Daniels in their family history that fits my John M. Daniels. I have tested with Ancestry and uploaded to Gedmatch and FTDNA, although I don't have any idea how to make use of the DNA testing. Thank yoiu, Wendy Lovgren (Acton, CA)

Basil/Bazel/etc Daniel ~ North Carolina to Arkansa via Tennessee and Illinois

Hi Kevin, I have just now connected with a Daniel cousin who lives in Arkansas. He is a direct descendant of Basil/Bazel Daniel and has taken a DNA test through Ancestry.com. I will tell his wife to upload his dna to GEDmatch.com but how does she upload her data to the Daniel chart? Thanks, Berlene Jacques

Hi Kevin Some years ago I was emailing a descendant of the Daniels of Tabley. He said they are R1b and not I2. I think the same may be true of the Middlesex VA Daniels. Jack

Lineage of Woodson M Daniel - many Rogers

"Warwick County, VA where Roger Daniel resided" I have Roger IV dying in Granville County in 1680. There were many Rogers: V, VI, VII, and yet another who was son of John son of Roger IV.

Lineage of Woodson M Daniel
17
Hello, I am new to the Daniel Surname DNA Project and to this group. I am trying to trace my line. I can trace it back to one Woodson M Daniel with primary sources. He lived c. 1830 to after 1860 and was married to Susan Elizabeth Kidd and they were from Knoxville, TN. I am descended through their son Marcus Rosencrans Daniel. I am trying to trace their line further back. I have looked at several public trees on Ancestry.com and Familysearch.com. The line seems fairly clear back to a Captain James Daniel from VA who reportedly lived 1709-1761. But there seems to be confusion because there were multiple James Daniels from VA. I learned about the Daniel DNA Project through this page for one of the James Daniels. LINK ( https://www.geni.com/people/Capt-James-Daniel-of-Albemarle-County/6000000002228246680 ) Perhaps I will need to do a Y DNA test to confirm who I am descended from. But I dont know how that works. Is there a database of Daniel DNA profiles my test can be compared to? Has anyone already sorted out this line from Woodson M or Marcus R back to the correct James Daniel? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Roger Daniel of Warwick County, Virginia
This thread continues a discussion about Roger Daniel which was started in a thread by David Garner on 30 January 2020. I am attaching a hypothetical tree for descendants of Roger Daniel supplied in that thread by Jack Danel. This would be good place to start documenting some primary record evidence so future researchers can locate it. Picking up from that other thread.... It would be helpful if the attached chart in some way showed how far back each line is proved using primary record evidence from the most recent descendant at the bottom of each line to the earliest proved ancestor. It would also be helpful when a statement is made whether there is primary record evidence to support it. For instance, what primary record proves this: "I have Roger IV dying in Granville County in 1680. There were many Rogers: V, VI, VII, and yet another who was son of John son of Roger IV." * What primary record proves a Roger Daniel died in Granville County (NC?) in 1680? (Granville County, NC was not created until 1746...) * What primary record proves that a Roger Daniel who died in Granville County (?) in 1680 was "Roger Daniel IV"? Thanks, Kevin

Lineage of Woodson M Daniel with hypothetical tree

On 1/30/2020 6:41 PM, Kevin Daniel via Groups.Io wrote: Y DNA cannot be used in this fashion. Y DNA cannot prove a connection to Roger Daniel if his Y DNA is not proved. What this group could prove at the time the chart was published was, as I recall, that several men could be traced back to North Carolina, I think, in the mid 1700s and their descendants shared their Y DNA. No one could make a jump back to Virginia, using primary records, though, much less to Warwick County, VA where Roger Daniel resided. I don't recall all of the details since the chart does not seem to be available any more. I think I made a copy but it is buried in my files. There was another group about the same time which was in the same boat trying to claim ancestry from the John Daniels of York County, VA. Y DNA evidence must be supported by primary records to establish ancestry. In some cases a well reasoned argument based on primary records where absolute proof does not exist may be used, but that must be carefully constructed. I am confused, is Woodson M. Daniel's ancestor claimed to be William Daniel of Middlesex, VA or Roger Daniel of Warick, VA? Kevin

Daniel*S in 1800 Pendleton District, South Carolina

I spent some time looking at the above census record and found the following: Jeremiah Danube (sic) whose household was: 2 males under 10 3 males between 10 - 16 1 male over 45 1 female between 10 - 16 1 female 26 to 45 Barsel Danude (sic) (Basel/Bazel) 1 male under 10 1 male 16 - 25 1 female 16 - 25 William Smith over 45 could he be an in-law????? William Daniel 1 male 16 - 25 1 female under 10 1 female 16 - 25 The neighbors to the above were the following SELF families: Spencer, John, Levi, Francis and Ryley (Riley) I believe that William Daniel is the same William P Daniel who won a grant in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. Hence my connection to the Georgia Daniel line. In addition these Daniel persons were also granted land in Georgia: Aaron, Isaac, James K, Julius, Mathew/Matthew, Prescilla (a widow?),Thomas, Wiley (is this Ryley of the 1800 census record?) Daniel men NOT granted land were: John and Nathan Does anyone have connection to the above persons? Thanks hope this may help someone,

Britton Daniel born 1814 - still searching for proof of parents
2
Thanks for setting this up Kevin. Your earlier work got me going on trying to find Britton’s ancestors using DNA, since we couldn’t find a paper trail. We believe his parents were John Daniel and Catherine Napier, but no proof yet. Thanks to FamilyTreeDNA, we learned that Britton is probably connected somehow to John Thomas Daniel (d1640), Edward Daniel (1760-1833), Nathaniel Daniel (1796-1864), William Jeremiah Daniel (1780-1850), James Daniel (1745-1821), but no idea how they connect. Britton is first found in Harlan County, Ky then Clay County, KY and finally in Madison County, KY. His name is sometimes spelled differently (Brittain, Britten, etc.). Any suggestions or corrections are appreciated.
