DANIELS Family Photograph 4
I have an old studio photograph of Emery Rice DANIELS which was taken at the Swartz studio in Stuart, IA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Emery likely in his 60's at the time. He is also identified as "LaVelle's Great Grandfather". Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Emery and his family: Emery Rice DANIELS was b. 13 Oct 1822 in Windsor, MA to parents Eliphalet DANIELS (1797-1861) and Amanda RICE (1800-1839) who were married 15 Sept 1821 in Conway, MA. Emery was one of 7 children born to this couple including Emery Rice; William Cullen; Amanda R.; Amond; Charles Franklin; and Eliphalet DANIELS Jr., all born between 1822 and 1832. Emery’s father was married previously and had one additional son, Aviery DANIELS (b. 1819). Emery married twice, first to Ellen WEAR (1825-1852) on 15 Jun 1848 in Peoria, IL and they had two children including Amanda Ellen DANIELS SHERMAN (1849-1939) and Laura C. DANIELS MURRAY (1852-1938). His second marriage was to Phebe or Pheobe S. STILLMAN (1829-1913) on 3 Mar 1853 in Peoria, IL and they had 8 children including Charles Franklin; Orlando Sherman; Sylvester Joseph; Baby Boy; Adoniram Judson; Leroy Emery; Dexter; and Lovica “Lollie” DANIELS, all born between 1854 and 1868. Emery died 14 Apr 1902 in Azusa, CA and is buried in the Oakdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendora, CA. I would like to get the photograph to a family member and appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or you know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

Martin Daniel Sr (ca. 1750-1811) of Mecklenburg Co., VA 11
Kevin and List Members, I descend from Martin Daniel Sr (ca. 1750-1811) of Mecklenburg Co., VA through his son Martin Daniel Jr (ca 1792-bef 1850). Back in 2010, I was in contact with a James "Jim" Daniel of Gray Summitt, Missouri. He was descended from a William Powell Daniel born circa 1808 in Mecklenburg Co., VA and Bedford Co., TN who married Martha Wiggins. He stated that he had has his YDNA tested and that he was a 34 out of 35 marker match with a Charles Arnold Daniel of Belton, TX who descended from Robert G. Daniel and Mary Ann Terrell. Robert G. Daniel was the son of Stark Daniel (1775-1864) and Lucy Yancey. Stark Daniel was the son of my Martin Daniel Sr (ca. 1750-1811) and brother to my Martin Daniel Jr (ca. 1792-bef 1850). Jim Daniel had speculated, but didn't have the proof, that his William Powell Daniel (b 1808) was the Grandson of Revolutionary War Veteran William Powell Daniel (ca. 1755-1836) of Mecklenburg Co., VA and Coffee Co., TN. There are many similar given names in both the families of my Martin Daniel Sr and Jim's William Powell Daniel (b 1808) including "Martin", "Wiley", and "Walter". Kevin...do you know if either Jim Daniel or Charles Arnold Daniel are still active in the Daniel YDNA project?? I don't have their kit numbers so I have nothing on their Haplogroup. I don't think that any male Daniel from my Martin Daniel Jr has tested. I realize that a 35 marker test is pretty broad in the sense of what it can provide, but I wanted to see if there may have been more submissions that match these two gentlemen and begin to use YDNA as a means to find my Martin Daniel Sr's lineage. I will focus on finding a male Daniel from my line of Martin Daniel Jr to test at a much higher marker....possibly Big Y700. FYI: Bedford County and Coffee County, TN are adjacent to each other just south of Murfreesboro, TN. Thanks in advance for your help, Charlie Rathbun Knoxville, TN

Daniel Y DNA Project at Family Tree DNA 19
I am one of the managers of the Daniel Y DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. I just discovered that between my domain host, Hover, and my local email client, Evolution, about all of the messages from Family Tree DNA, and even some from the contact links on the project web site, have been getting treated as spam or junk mail. My co-manager hasn't been logging into the account I set up for him at yahoo since I am now retired and have not needed his help for some time. It looks like most, if not all of the missing messages are making it to his account, though. I am using his account until/if I can get my account straightened out and he will now be logging into the account on the 1st day of each month since his account had been deactivated due to inactivity. We have also set up a regular meeting just to touch bases on what is going on with the project. My question is, has anyone been experiencing issues with updates to the Results page of the project web site, response to queries to me or my co-manager, or issues, in general with the project? I am trying to figure out how long this has been going on and make sure I am fixing the problem.

James Daniel b 1730 ish d 1789 who married Elizabeth West. 2
We have a descendant of this James through his son West Daniel who has taken a 37 marker Y-dna test and he has 18 matches with the surname Daniel, ( I am one of them) the other matches include descendants of Frederick Daniel b 1756 Brunswick VA d 1837, Pike GA, David Daniel b 1758 d 1824 Nash NC, Joseph Daniel b abt 1750 Halifax NC d 1787 Halifax NC, Ambrose Daniel b 1738 d 1795 Halifax NC or York SC ( two matches), Isham Daniel b 1735 d 1819 Chatham NC ( this Isham is likely the son of a John Daniel b 1707 of Brunswick VA ) ( four matches), Joseph Daniel b 1723 d 1794 Brunswick VA ( three matches), Reese Daniel b abt 1735 d ? Prince George, Peyton Randall Daniel ( probable son of Randall Daniel) b 1760 d 1813 Brunswick/ Dinwiddie VA, William Daniel b 1760 d 1825 Shelby KY ( possible son of John Daniel b 1715 d 1780 Prince George VA, Thomas Edward Daniel b 1844 d 1890, Josiah Daniel b 1756 d 1830 Rowan NC. This James has been associated with several different people down over the years mostly with James Daniel( Elizabeth Woodson) this appears to be incorrect. The Daniel's in Halifax, at least this group of Daniel's appear, to be associated with a Peter Daniel who came from Prince George VA then to Brunswick ( Crab Louse run area) then to Halifax NC. I am thinking about getting this test upgraded to Big-y to see where he fits with the others of us who have tested at that level. Hope this information helps and if you have any thoughts or corrections feel free.

Has anyone ever spoken to James Daniels? 7
On Family Tree DNA I have one person who is always at the top of my match lists, James Daniels. We both have taken the Big-Y 700 marker test, and we have the same exact haplogroup, and in fact we are the only two known members in this haplogroup. I've tried to reach out by email for years, but I've never heard back. On his profile, he claims to have descended from Robert DeAnyers, 1172, and claims to be associated with the surname "Daniell" from Warwick County Virginia. My Y-DNA is Is M-269, part of R1B1. I have three questions 1) Has anyone made contact with this James Daniels before? If so, can you speak to any connection with Brittain/Britton Daniel b1814? 2) Do you know anything about the Y-DNA of the "Daniell" s from Warwick County Virginia? Are these Daniels M-269 / R1B1? 3) How would James Daniels be related to Robert DeAnyers 1172? Are his male descendents M-269 / R1B1? Kinds regards David Daniel (Brittain/Britton Daniel b1814)

Sen John Warwick Daniel b1842 descendants? 3
He is probably the most publicly known Daniel in the past 200 years, but interestingly, he's not mentioned on Kevin Daniel's danieldna.com website. Are there any Daniel's that trace their lineage to John Warwick Daniel b1842? Have you tested any of your male descendants Y-DNA?

Joseph, “Job, Jobe,” Daniel and Elizabeth Calaway DNA match to William of Cedar Creek 37
My name is Beverly Markell Markland and I have a great deal of information about this branch of the Daniel family. Joseph Daniel had 10 children with Elizabeth Callaway. 1)Abner about 1779 (little known and unsure of name) 2)Mary “Polly” 1784 3)Issac 1786-1860 md 1.Faircloth 2.Weatherford 3. Jerry Dean Joseph aka Job served in the Revolutionary War and lived in New Bern, NC where most of his children were born. When treaties were signed with the Cherokee Indians Joseph and Elizabeth relocated to Franklin, Tennessee. Where he died in 1814. Many of the older children moved on but the younger group settled in Lynchburg and Mulberry Tennessee, Moore County. My gggrandfather was Calaway Daniel md Lucinda Cook and their son Wiley Butler Daniel, my ggrandfather, and his close siblings compiled family information in the 1920’s which passed down to me. It is my hope that someone in this Daniel group would like to join me in the research the Ancestors and descendants of Joseph aka Job Daniel c1745-1814 and Elizabeth Callaway 1757-1853. Especially interested in the DNA connection to William Daniel of Cedar Creek Hundred. Some Daniel descendants of Joseph aka Job have their DNA test listed on the Daniel DNA project however they are not all connected to one another. I recognize the names and can help with that. I have three DNA test and several very complete trees that I am working on and would love to share information. Beverly

Rowan NC Daniel's 14
Clay Daniels, I have a question about a comment that you made in this thread back in July of 2021. You were responding to James Daniel, & you mentioned your visit with Evely Van Meter. You also mentioned that Elizabeth (Job Daniel's wife) had written to her son in Lawrence County, TN. I have been working on Job Daniel's ancestors & descendants with Beverly Markland, who is also in this group. We are wondering if you know anything more about these letters, or any other information about Job & Elizabeth that may be helpful in our research. Jame Daniel used to say that he had compiled quite a bit of information about Job & Elizabeth. Do you know if any of his research is available somewhere, such as Ancestry, MyHeritage, etc.?

Edward Daniel
I agree that there has been a bit of confusion between two separate individuals bearing the name Edward Daniel who lived in about the same time frame. My Daniel ancestor was one of these Edward Daniels, but not the one everyone seems to automatically go to - that being the Grainger Co., TN, Edward Daniel. Kenneth L Daniel (who is a member of the Daniel DNA list - Ancestor #4014) is my second cousin once removed. We have done a lot of research over the years and have compiled the following: Our Edward was born about 1762, probably in Virginia, and married Mildred "Milly" Duncan ca 1790. Children were: Mary Polly Daniel (1793- ) George Daniel (1793-bef 1860, Married Editha "Edy" Alsup in Clay Co., IL) Rebecca Daniel (1794- ) Elizabeth C Daniel (1794- , married Randolph Allsup) John Daniel (1794-1860) William D Daniel (1796-1860, Married Adelphia "Delphia" Wilburn) Sara Sally Daniel (1797- ) Jemima Daniel (1799- ) James Monroe Daniel (1799-6 Nov 1854, Married Elizabeth Allsup in Rutherford Co., TN) Stephen Daniels (1801-bef 1860, Married Abigail Allsup in Rutherford Co., TN) Isaac Daniel (1804- ) Edward Daniel (1810- , Married 1st Rachel Orrick & 2nd Lavinia Cochran) Jessee Daniel (1813 bef 1870, Married Alzada "Zoda" Ware) Elizabeth Daniel (20 Jun 1817-17 Dec 1892, Married Richard Mattingly) Jincey Daniel (1818- ) Joseph L Daniel (12 May 1818-3 Apr 1871, Married Clarisa Delila Party) There is a 1792-1795 tax record found for an Edward Daniel in Patrick County, VA, based on 100 acres from a Samuel Vest. Hard to verify at this point but may point to his locale at the time. 1810 Surry County, NC, Census is the next post we have for him. The numbers seem to match his known children at the time. Edward Daniel: Males: 2(0-10) - Edward, Stephen 3(10-16) - James, William, John 1(16-26), George 1(45+). Edward Females: 1(0-10) - Elizabeth 1(26-45). Millie We haven't found him definitely in the 1820 one as yet so it's on to Warren County, TN for the 1830 Census. Line 18, Edward Dannel: Males: 1(10-15 - Joseph), 1(15-20 - Jesse), 1(20-30 - Edward). 3(30-40 - George, John, & William D), Kenneth and I are both descendants of James Monroe Daniel & Elizabeth Allsup through grandsons William Evert Daniel (Kenneth's line) and Martin Van Buren Daniel (my line). I have gotten a first cousin - my mother's nephew - to take the FamilyTree YDNA test but haven't entered him to the Daniel DNA project as yet. 1(60-70 - Edward). Females: 1(10-15 - Jincey), 1(20-30 - Elizabeth), 1(50-60 - Millie). 10 total. It is believed he died in Illinois. The majority of his sons settled in Jefferson & Marion counties of Illinois as far as I have determined to date. I have found one other Edward Daniel - born in 1784 Maderia, Portugal who received a land grant on 6 May 1814 for service during the War of 1812. Information on him was sourced from the following: Ancestry.com, U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914, Ancestry.com, Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2007, Provo, UT, USA Ancestry.com, U.S. General Land Office Records, 1796-1907, U.S. General Land Office Records, 1796-1907 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2008. So, there are other Edward Daniels out there other than the Grainger Co., TN. one so don't automatically assume he is the only one. Diane Christie

DANIELS Family Photograph
I have an old studio photograph of Mildred DANIELS which was taken at the E. E. Shaner Studio in Chelsea, MI. Mildred was 7 months old at the time and weighed 20 lbs. Mildred birthdate is also noted as 12 Nov 1886. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Mildred and her family: Mildred Roxana DANIELS was b. 12 Nov 1886 in Superior, MI to parents Edward Warren DANIELS or MCDANIELS (1861-1935) and Susan “Susie” Waite BURKHART (1862-1940) who were married 21 Feb 1884 in Dexter, MI. Mildred was one of 5 children born to this family including Mildred Roxana; Warren Rule or Reule; Dorothy Irene; Chole E.; and Charles Edward DANIELS, all born between 1886 and 1905. Mildred married William R. MAYER (1873-1960) on 3 Oct 1931 in North Lake or Gregory, MI, and she died 17 Oct 1954 in Munith, MI and is buried in the Munith Cemetery in Munith, MI. I am hoping to locate someone from Mildred’s family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Gini Meeker 3
I fear that we may have lost Gini Meeker. Over the last few months, her email and telephone number have become inactive. Her WikiTree profiles have been orphaned since her email address is no longer good. She is my Daniel cousin and we have corresponded fairly regularly over the years. She has been a very active researcher on my and other Daniel lines for several decades. She was born in the 1920s. The last time we talked, she was recovering from an injury/illness, but seemed on the mend and was looking forward to getting back to researching. I hope that I am wrong....

Site updates 3
I got the secure connection issue figured out so the connection can be securely made by using either of the following URLs: www.danieldna.com https://www.kevindaniel.x10.mx/index.htm I have not looked at my hosting provider's web site in a while and found that they have enabled masking without an upgrade which was quite a bit more expensive. That means that when you go to the site in the future, using first URL, you will see www.danieldna.com instead of the x10 URL, but right now it is not working. It apparently can take a couple of days for that change to take effect. Going forward you can use either of the two links above, whichever you prefer. Both are secure. Let me know if you have any problems. Kevin

Daniel DNA project: Looking for participants who descend from Joseph Daniel, Jr. m. Mary "Polly" Garland 2
Greetings. I'm a new member here. My grandmother's maiden name was Daniel. I'm appending here an email I sent to the DANIEL Y-DNA project administrator, in hopes of finding a participant related to "my" clan of Daniels. Thanks for any assistance. ========== from: Ken Norman <ken@...> to: kevin@... date: Jan 13, 2023, 12:45 PM subject: Daniel Y-DNA project...is my clan represented, yet? Hi, my name is Ken Norman. My paternal grandmother, Jimmie "Jill" Daniel, was born in 1916. She was the 7th of 8 children (all daughters) born to Robert Allen Daniel and Flemmie Annis Owen (see attached photos). I am interested to learn if "my" Daniels are represented in your study. The earliest known Daniel ancestor in my line is Joseph Daniel, Jr. (yes, his father is Joseph Daniel, Sr., but I know nothing but his name and his wife's name, Anne). Joseph, Jr. was born about 1784 in Halifax County, NC. I know nothing of his brothers or sisters (if any). About 1807, he married Mary "Polly" Garland (b. about 1783). They had 11 children: 1. Allen (1808-1860); 2. Henry Garland (1811-1894); 3. Lucinda (1812-1880); 4. Sarah (1813-1865); 5. Mary (1815-?); 6. William Asbury (1818-1885) [my ancestor]; 7. Julius (1820-1892); 8. Macy (1823-1863); 9. Frances Delilah (1824-1897); 10. Joseph G. (1827-?); and 11. Martha Collins (1834-1924). I possess an excellent reference book compiled by Freddy Wandell Page (my 1st cousin, once removed) titled "DANIELINE, 1784-1986" (c) 1987. It gives the descendant genealogy of Joseph Daniel, Jr. as far forward as Freddy could ascertain in the pre-internet era. It is quite comprehensive (500 pages). Based on this book, I have developed a list of 24 known male descendants of William Asbury Daniel (Joseph, Jr.'s son) who are likely to be alive, and, thus, potential candidates for inclusion in your study. However, I have not yet contacted any of them. Since my Daniel grandfather had no sons, I'm only distantly related to these 24, and I don't know any of them. I haven't even figured out their contact information. I have yet to research male Daniel descendants from any of Joseph, Jr.'s other four sons to find additional candidates for participation in your study, although, with the aid of Freddy's book, it shouldn't take too much effort. Anyway, I'm keenly interested to know if any of the information I provided on Joseph, Jr. overlaps with any of your current study participants. I searched your website, but I could not find any overlaps, even in later generations. It seems "my" clan of Daniels is completely unknown to you. How exciting it would be to document this large group? Thanks, Ken Norman ken@... P.S. In the earlier picture, my grandmother ("Granny") is the one in front standing between her parents. In the later picture, Granny is 2nd from the left (they're in age order, youngest-to-oldest). The family is documented on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/35196127/robert-allen-daniel ==========

Daniel family of Rowan County, NC 8
I am interested in information on the earliest Daniels in Rowan County, NC. I found a Peter Daniel who made a will in 1791 naming his wife Winneford and son Paul. Other children are mentioned but not by name. He also names his friend, Sion Daniel. A Winny Daniel appears in the 1800 census--probably Peter's widow. I am particularly interested in a Peter Daniel who married Sally Lofton in Rowan County in 1803. Some researchers are attributing this as a second marriage for Peter Daniel, son of Charles Daniel and Sarah Tate. The son of Charles married Jane Mayfield in 1788 in Warren County, NC. Jane's father, Abraham Mayfield, named her in his will in 1809 so she was still living. I do not believe the Peter who married Jane Mayfield and the Peter who married Sally Lofton are the same man, but wanted to attach Sally to the correct Peter. Any help appreciated, Sheryl
