Cynthia Ann Daniel b. 1810 TN d. Abt. 1860 MO
2
Cynthia Ann was married to James Swanner in Marshall CountyTennessee in 1836. James Swanner died in 1842/43 in Wolf Island township, Mississippi County, MO (previously Scott County) Cynthia re-married in June 1844 in Scott County to William Bartlett. William Bartlett died in January/February 1848. As of 1853, Cynthia still went by the Bartlett name. I believe she died before the census of 1860 butI have no verification.

Caroline County, Virginia Daniel group
My interest is primarily in the line of William Daniel who was born about 1680 and died in December 1764 or early January 1765. He died testate and his will was presented for probate on 10 January 1765, but most records in Caroline were lost during the Civil War. A group of 20 Daniel men have taken Y DNA tests at Family Tree DNA and resulting primary record research has proved that they descend from William Daniel 1680-1765. A write up of this research and information about the first three or four generations is available at: http://www.kevindaniel.x10.mx/carolinedanielsdna.html The male Daniel line of William Daniel 16801765 was represented in Caroline County from 1728 until around 1800 by which time the Daniel name from this line disappeared in Caroline as these Daniel men moved west and south. An unrelated Daniel group which descends from James Daniel of Essex County, VA moved to Caroline County in the 1760s or early 1770s and male Daniels from that line were in Caroline after 1800. Martin Daniel Sr (ca 1750-1811) of Mecklenburg Co., VA
Thanks Kevin for setting this up!! I’m still searching for the lineage of my Martin Daniel Sr of Mecklenburg Co., VA. He was born about 1750 and died in 1811 in Mecklenburg Co., VA where his will was probated. I descend from his son Martin Daniel Jr who married Avarilla “Avey” Yancey. There are a few different Martin Daniel’s running around Mecklenburg Co., VA and Granville Co., NC. Any help would be appreciated! Charlie Rathbun Knoxville, TN

Capt. William Daniel of Middlesex Co., VA
2
Thank you, Kevin, for your continuing work. I just wanted to remind everyone that my first cousin Alfred David Daniel is in the Daniel DNA group and my 3rd cousin Jerry H. Daniel. They match completely on Y DNA. We have a 66 of 67 marker match with others going back to Capt. William and we descend from his son Robert. l hope it helps others connect. We believe that the mutation on one marker happened right at our Josiah Daniel b 1805 NC, son of James Key and Sarah Brown Daniel. This is understandable in that "volatile" markers can mutate. Cecil Daniels has a paper trail back to Capt. William and descends from another son of James Key and Sarah Brown Daniel. He is also in the DNA project. We have yet to find a scrap of paper in Caswell Co., NC, with Josiah's name on it, but have not found any other Daniel family with an unidentified son the right age to be our Josiah. Census records say that he was b in NC and parents b VA (that fits). The names of some of his children: James, Sarah, and William Brown Daniel would suggest a father named James and Brown from the mother's maiden name. We only had one day for research at the archives in Raleigh so don't know if we missed anything that might have placed Josiah there prior to moving to AL. So, anyone searching in NC, please let us know if you find anything with Josiah's name on it. Meanwhile, we trust that this is our connection. Georgia Daniel Cavanaugh

KnowYourDNA web site

I got a request from a woman named Donna Moore who is the founder of a web site www.knowyourdna.com. She queried me about the possibility of adding a link to her site to the "DNA Information Links" page of our web site. I am researching this site now, but wondered if anyone has heard of or used this site? It appears to be a non-profit, informational site, but not very technical. There have been various requests over the years from different sites to add links from our site, but most were for profit sites so were rejected. Thoughts on including a link to this site welcomed. Thanks, Kevin

Britton Daniel born 1814 - still searching for proof of parents
2
Thanks for setting this up Kevin. Your earlier work got me going on trying to find Britton’s ancestors using DNA, since we couldn’t find a paper trail. We believe his parents were John Daniel and Catherine Napier, but no proof yet. Thanks to FamilyTreeDNA, we learned that Britton is probably connected somehow to John Thomas Daniel (d1640), Edward Daniel (1760-1833), Nathaniel Daniel (1796-1864), William Jeremiah Daniel (1780-1850), James Daniel (1745-1821), but no idea how they connect. Britton is first found in Harlan County, Ky then Clay County, KY and finally in Madison County, KY. His name is sometimes spelled differently (Brittain, Britten, etc.). Any suggestions or corrections are appreciated.

Daniel*S in 1800 Pendleton District, South Carolina

I spent some time looking at the above census record and found the following: Jeremiah Danube (sic) whose household was: 2 males under 10 3 males between 10 - 16 1 male over 45 1 female between 10 - 16 1 female 26 to 45 Barsel Danude (sic) (Basel/Bazel) 1 male under 10 1 male 16 - 25 1 female 16 - 25 William Smith over 45 could he be an in-law????? William Daniel 1 male 16 - 25 1 female under 10 1 female 16 - 25 The neighbors to the above were the following SELF families: Spencer, John, Levi, Francis and Ryley (Riley) I believe that William Daniel is the same William P Daniel who won a grant in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. Hence my connection to the Georgia Daniel line. In addition these Daniel persons were also granted land in Georgia: Aaron, Isaac, James K, Julius, Mathew/Matthew, Prescilla (a widow?),Thomas, Wiley (is this Ryley of the 1800 census record?) Daniel men NOT granted land were: John and Nathan Does anyone have connection to the above persons? Thanks hope this may help someone,

Lineage of Woodson M Daniel with hypothetical tree

On 1/30/2020 6:41 PM, Kevin Daniel via Groups.Io wrote: Y DNA cannot be used in this fashion. Y DNA cannot prove a connection to Roger Daniel if his Y DNA is not proved. What this group could prove at the time the chart was published was, as I recall, that several men could be traced back to North Carolina, I think, in the mid 1700s and their descendants shared their Y DNA. No one could make a jump back to Virginia, using primary records, though, much less to Warwick County, VA where Roger Daniel resided. I don't recall all of the details since the chart does not seem to be available any more. I think I made a copy but it is buried in my files. There was another group about the same time which was in the same boat trying to claim ancestry from the John Daniels of York County, VA. Y DNA evidence must be supported by primary records to establish ancestry. In some cases a well reasoned argument based on primary records where absolute proof does not exist may be used, but that must be carefully constructed. I am confused, is Woodson M. Daniel's ancestor claimed to be William Daniel of Middlesex, VA or Roger Daniel of Warick, VA? Kevin

Roger Daniel of Warwick County, Virginia
This thread continues a discussion about Roger Daniel which was started in a thread by David Garner on 30 January 2020. I am attaching a hypothetical tree for descendants of Roger Daniel supplied in that thread by Jack Danel. This would be good place to start documenting some primary record evidence so future researchers can locate it. Picking up from that other thread.... It would be helpful if the attached chart in some way showed how far back each line is proved using primary record evidence from the most recent descendant at the bottom of each line to the earliest proved ancestor. It would also be helpful when a statement is made whether there is primary record evidence to support it. For instance, what primary record proves this: "I have Roger IV dying in Granville County in 1680. There were many Rogers: V, VI, VII, and yet another who was son of John son of Roger IV." * What primary record proves a Roger Daniel died in Granville County (NC?) in 1680? (Granville County, NC was not created until 1746...) * What primary record proves that a Roger Daniel who died in Granville County (?) in 1680 was "Roger Daniel IV"? Thanks, Kevin

Lineage of Woodson M Daniel
17
Hello, I am new to the Daniel Surname DNA Project and to this group. I am trying to trace my line. I can trace it back to one Woodson M Daniel with primary sources. He lived c. 1830 to after 1860 and was married to Susan Elizabeth Kidd and they were from Knoxville, TN. I am descended through their son Marcus Rosencrans Daniel. I am trying to trace their line further back. I have looked at several public trees on Ancestry.com and Familysearch.com. The line seems fairly clear back to a Captain James Daniel from VA who reportedly lived 1709-1761. But there seems to be confusion because there were multiple James Daniels from VA. I learned about the Daniel DNA Project through this page for one of the James Daniels. LINK ( https://www.geni.com/people/Capt-James-Daniel-of-Albemarle-County/6000000002228246680 ) Perhaps I will need to do a Y DNA test to confirm who I am descended from. But I dont know how that works. Is there a database of Daniel DNA profiles my test can be compared to? Has anyone already sorted out this line from Woodson M or Marcus R back to the correct James Daniel? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

John M. Daniel(s)
3
I am looking for information on John M. Daniel(s). We think he may have been born before 1802, possibly in either South Carolina or Virginia. He married Eliza (Elizabeth) Jackson (b Abt. 1801 d 15 Aug 1839) on 13 Jan 1825 in Amite, MS. He is listed in Williams Causey's Will as his grandson. He was apparently brought to Amite, MS with William Causey, presumably from South Carolina, around 1805. Our assumption is that his mother was a Causey and his father was a Daniels and that both of his parents had died before William Causey took him to Amite. I have no information on either of his parents. Since William Causey lived in South Carolina prior to going to Amite, MS we assume that is where John M. lived with his parents. Unfortunately there are no South Carolina records for that time frame available. It is believed that William Causey was in Virginia prior to going to South Carolina and so I think it is a possibility that his daughter may have met and married a Daniels while in Virginia. John and Eliza named their first son William (although that could have been after William Causey) and their second son Josiah. Neither of those names are in Eliza's immediate tree. His first daughter was named Sarah, his second daughter was named Nancy, and his third daughter was named Elizabeth (more than likely after her mother.) Family lore is that Sarah was named after John's mother, but we haven't been able to find any information on a "Sarah Causey." I know this is a long shot, but I am reaching out anywhere possible to see if someone has a John M. Daniels in their family history that fits my John M. Daniels. I have tested with Ancestry and uploaded to Gedmatch and FTDNA, although I don't have any idea how to make use of the DNA testing. Thank yoiu, Wendy Lovgren (Acton, CA)

DORAN - DANIELS Family Photograph
3
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sarah Josephine DORAN MULLETT which was taken at the Angel Studio in Neosho, MO. It appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Susan likely in her teens or 20's. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Sarah and her family: Sarah Josephine “Josie” DORAN was b. 8 Jul 1875 in Bunceton, MO to parents Benjamin Franklin DORAN (1837-1900) and Lucy DANIELS (1833-1924). Josephine was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Lucy A. J. “Lula”; William “Willis” Franklin Benjamin; Sarah Josephine “Josie”; Mary Belle; and one other, all born between 1864 and 1885. Josephine married Clifford “Cliff” Elmer MULLETT (1879-1965) on 31 Dec 1907 in Bunceton, MO and they had a daughter Josephine MULLETT (b. 1910). Josephine died 28 Apr 1945 in Bunceton, MO and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Bunceton. Her obituary lists a sister Mrs. Lula DORAN JAMES of Bunceton, MO; and her daughter Miss Josephine MULLETT of St. Louis, MO. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks Shelley
