Chirp Doesn't Write to Kenwood TM-271
I was all excited to use Chirp for my TM-271. Using the prior version of Chirp, not the new one, everything went well until I tried to write data to the radio, but nothing happens. I worked on it for a couple of hours, but no bueno. It downloads from the radio fine, but not vice versa? Using Win7 and a good cable (i.e. works fine with the Kenwood softwire tor ead and write). Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Shawn

Read from radio ends with radio in transmit
4
Maybe discussed before but as a new member . . . Recently used CHIRP to read from my Radioddity GA-510 HT. Took me a few minutes once I'd done that to discover that the radio had been sitting there in transmit for all that time. The battery got pretty warm but the heat sink/body channel of the radio was blistering hot. Turned off the radio, removed the batt and set it to cool. Then I tried reading from my IC-7300 and at the end of reading that radio's memory settings, the IC-7300 went into transmit. Noticed that immediately 'cause the fan came on and the tx light light up. Wanting, like the Lock Picking Lawyer, to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I read from the IC-7300 again and, yep, the radio went into transmit. Only stopped when I closed CHIRP. So perhaps either that's a bug needs fixed or it's a long standing issue that others have noticed but for which there is yet no fix. And yes, I'm running a version downloaded a month or so ago. Reads as CHIRP next-20230311/Python 3.10.8, so it ain't that old. Nils / W8IJN

Help with New Chirp on Linux Mint
2
I've upgraded to Linux Mint 21.1 on three laptops and have installed New Chirp on all of them. When I go to download from my Baofeng UV-5R it appears to download (bar goes across to the end) and then I get this message - module 'collections' has no attribute 'callable'. At that point I'm dead in the water. Happens exactly the same on all three laptops running Linux Mint 21.1. I've Googled it, read some, but not being a wizard at Linux, none of it makes any sense to me. Perhaps someone far smarter than I am can walk me through a fix, step by step, for this. If that's even possible. Thank you, Richard AG5M

Loading CHIRP
5
Well, it starts again. I can't seem to even load this thing to try and USE it! I even successfully removed the "This PC" from the Desk Top! It took two years for me to successfully load and use fldigi and WSJT-X because most of time I have no idea what to do next. I have a Chuwi (walmart cheapo) laptop with Windows 10. Please describe step-by-step, button-by-button how to install, post a desktop icon (if required) and then how to chirp my BearFang UV-5R (without a "BAND" button). Thank you in advance! 73 Karl KI4ZUQ

Chirp Next Install Help
12
Hello, All... I decided to move up to the Chirp Next version, so I grabbed the only download I saw: chirp-20230307.tar.gz I assumed this was going to be a C/C++ source collection. Turns out it is Python. Now, I am NOT familiar with Python at all. Are there instructions someplace that tell me what to do with this? Take Care & 73 -- de KC6UFM Charles

Baofeng GT-3WP
2
Hi and happy new year, i bought a programming cable from BAOFENG via amazon. I use the correct COM Port and the correct Model-Type "GT-3WP". But unfortunately i always get the error: "Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want". Does anybody knows a solution (or workaround) for the problem? 73, Burkhard

CHIRP on ?Unlocked? UV5R
Also, make sure the volume control is wide open since the programming signals go through that control. CHIRP on ¡°Unlocked¡± UV5R

I find CHIRP will no longer recognize my UV5R once it has been ¡°unlocked¡± - is there a work-around? Yes, I am aware of the FCC regulations - no need to comment on that aspect.

CHIRP on ?Unlocked? UV5R
Charles . . . wrote: I've read that knockoffs of the Prolific chip won't work with the Prolific driver. The REAL ones will work. I've used one of those cheap "Octopus" (multiple connector tips) types with the CH341 driver on a Baofeng UV-5R, and it worked fine (finding the correct driver was an issue, though). I also have a cable with an FDTI chip that gave me no problem. People generally have the least amount of problems with cables that have the FDTI chip. IC-91A
8
Has anyone been successful in using Chirp on an Icom IC-91A? I've tried 5 different cables, ones that are supposed to be OPC-478 compatible, and work on my myriad of HT and HF rigs. First, Chirp is unable to automaically identify the radio and says so, eventually. Second, when I specify IC-90, it seems to scan all of the channels, but all are blank and I know there are channels stored in the radio. If I try to put in a frequency, it says that the radio is not responding. All of the cables generate good COM ports. Windows 11...

TYT-9800D upload with CHIRP
4
Hello Everyone, I'm a relatively new ham and I purchased TYT TH-9800D as a mobile and base unit. I have frequencies stored in my Baofeng UV5R that I would like to upload to my TH-9800. After a lot of searching, I got the programming cable and driver working for the 9800D. I imported the frequencies from my UV5 into CHIRP without any problems. I then go to "Upload to Radio" and the 9800 does not show in the CHIRP list. I am able to use the 9800 software to query the radio and read what is on the radio (see my attachment). So I know the cable works. So my question is how can I use CHIRP to upload the frequencies if it doesn't recognize that the radio is there? Or is there a way to import the CHIRP file into the TH-9800 software and then upload the file to the radio? Hopefully, someone else has had this issue and it's an easy fix!! Thank you, Warren "Doc" Mack KG5CYP

Help: How Install CHIRP on Linux Mint 20.3 Uma?
9
I give up. Running CHIRP on Linux Mint 19.3 was easy. But since going to Linux Mint 20 (now Mint 20.3 Uma) I find no way to install CHIRP anymore. Is it even possible? And if so, can someone tell me how to do it, in EXACTING detail. I find no answers on Google that has helped. And I'm far from being a computer programmer. Thank you, 73 Richard AG5M
