Import From Source missing from Radio Drop down
5
All, Thanks for the add to the group. When I click on the "Radio" tab I don't see "Import from Source" only Query Source. Is there something I'm missing? I have the latest version of CHIRP installed and I have created an .img file for my radio (ICOM 2730A). Thanks, Lou

ICOM 2730A Programming before connecting to radio
3
I'm new to using CHIRP and I will admit I'm struggling with this software. I have an ICOM 2730A which has the base unit mounted in the trunk of my car. Can I setup all of my repeater info into the various memories before I connect the programming cable from the computer to the radio? Hope that makes sense, Lou

KT-8900
When trying to programme the KT-8900. I get "short read of the block 0x0000" error. I can read/write to the radio with the factory software with no problem, but Chirp is better to use.. Any suggestions appreciated. Stuart, GD0OUD.

Chirp runs unexpectedly when USB thumb drive icon is clicked in Ubuntu Unity interface
3
Steps to reproduce the problem: Vanilla Ubuntu 24.04.1 (with Unity interface), updated from the repository today (15-Jan-2025) Chirp 20250110 installed from the whl file ** Execute these commands from a terminal: *** pipx install --system-site-packages chirp-20250110-py3-none-any.whl *** pipx ensurepath *** Verified that ~/.local/bin/chirp is present *** Verified that ~/.local/bin is in $PATH Login as a normal unprivileged user Insert a USB thumb drive Wait for the USB thumb drive icon to appear on the left side of the screen Click that icon, expecting a file manager to appear. Unexpectedly, Chirp starts(!). The expected file manager never appears. I tried to file a New Issue, but after filling out the form, there was no "submit" or equivalent button available.

New Version in Windows 11 won't run
5
I recently upgraded to Win 11. I also just updated Chirp to the latest and it won't run. When I open it it ends up in the tray and I can't do anything with it. I also tried opening it as an administrator and still no luck. Is this a Windows 11 issue or is there some magic I need to do to get it out of the tray? Rick, W2JAZ

Chirp with Retevis RT95
4
I understand Chirp with Retevis RT95 is still under development, but thought I would give it a try. When I tries to load a bunch of frequencies, the UHF frequencies canme back with an error message that "some memories are incompatible with this radio". Is this typical with the current version of Chirp, or might something else be wrong, such as a radio setting? Thanks!

Has anyone any experience of programming these radios? I have a simple and very basic (sorry) question: is it programmed via the earphone or usb socket? I have Baofeng cables for both but neither respond …

Unable to upload to UV-5R Plus
7
#UV-5RPlus
Has anyone been successful uploading to a Baofeng UV-5R Plus? The radio goes into transmit mode when upload is attempted and then times out. Tried various releases including CHIP Legacy 20221217 all on Windows 10. Not sure if there is driver issue. The last time I successfully used the software was probably on Windows 7 using the same programming cable. -- Bernie Murphy VE3FWF Ottawa, Canada

Problem programming setting on Baofeng UV-5
2
Hello, all, I was tasked with programming 10 Baofeng UV-5 radios, fresh out of the box from the factory. Initially, I had no problems programming all 10 with a custom list from my club. However, I wanted to change the settings of one, to put an owner's name in the welcome message fields. On other radios, I was able to make this change by downloading the radio, clicking on Settings (as opposed to Memories), then Other Settings and editing the Power-On Message 1 and 2 fields. This is using version daily-20210618 of chirp on a Ubuntu 22.04.4 system. On just one of the ten radios, when I download the radio and click Settings, I just see a blank dark screen. There seems to be an outline of a button where the words "Basic Settings" should be, but no text shows up anywhere on the screen. Clicking in this area also produces no action or response. I've tried factory resetting the radio, but this doesn't help. I know that this worked the first time, because I programmed in the wrong name; that's why I needed to change it. I'm totally baffled by this. Can anyone suggest anything else I can try? I'm going to update Chirp to the latest version tonight, and try that tomorrow when I next have access to the radios. Anything else I should try? Thanks for all advice and help. -Kevin KC3KZ

FT60R doesn't connect
11
I have an solid and reliable Win7 PC and two FT6oRs. I would like to have matching entries in both radios. I loaded the "legacy" chirp software and manually loaded the needed driver. I identified the radio in the software and selected Com4. I have a Prolific USB to serial cable plugged into the radio. (I believe that is the correct cable). I rebooted the PC with the radio connected, but off. After reboot, I pushed the moni button while turning on the radio and progressed to the clone setting. I then pushed the F/W button and then the PTT button to try to get the radio to report to Chirp. The software displays "Cloning". After a few moments I get "An Error has occurred. Failed to communicate with the radio: Radio not responding"). The Ff60 also displayed an short error message. "Devices and Printers" and "Device manager" both confirm the Prolific is recognized at port 4 and reported as working OK. I checked to see if there was an update for the driver. It is current. Port settings are 9600>8>1>none Not sure how to proceed from here. Is there anyone who can help me get the radio talking to the PC? Your assistance would be appreciated. CHIRP on Ubuntu MATE 23.10
3
I having issues with getting chirp to install on Ubuntu MATE 23.10. I have had it working on this very PC before I upgraded to 23.10. I completely removed chirp and python and followed the instructions for installing a python wheel file to no avail. Here is what I get when I try installing: mike@jarvis:~$ sudo apt list python3-wxgtk4.0 pipx Listing... Chirp and crossband memories
8
I am interested in whether using CHIRP to program memories into some of the Chinese mobile radios (not HTs) like the Anytones, QYT and TYT radios will let you store crossband memories, where you receive on one band (say 70cm) and transmit on another band (2m). This would be useful for satellite operation. The Baofeng HTs let you store memories manually this way, but the operating manuals I have looked over so far for the mobile radios don't mention being able to do this. 73 John AF5CC

Baofeng uv-5r8w question
2
So far I have not found this setting, but is there a way to lengthen then time your message stays on the screen at start up time? It flashes on then off very quickly. Just want to have it stay on for a little longer before going away. Thanks Bob W8RID

New to Chirp query
4
I have a very nice H-V-U station, but I recently purchased a cheap Chinese QYT model KT7900D, just to get on a local 220MHz club repeater. The QYT model shows up on the Chirp webpage as being supported. However, I have not be willing to change my operating system to Win 10 or 11, and am still running a very stable and familiar Win7Pro. My question is: if I download the legacy version of Chirp for Win7, will the more recent KT7900D driver (is it for Win 10 or 11 only), work with Win7? I obviously don't want to"brick" the QYT radio. Or to put it another way, are the later drivers typically back compatible with the legacy software? Your attention is appreciated. Ray, W4BYG (for over 70 years) Virus-free.www.avg.com

Programming the Baofeng UV-17 Pro Max
2
I just bought a Baofeng UV-17 Pro Max and am having trouble getting it to be recognized by the CHIRP programming for the UV-17P (not Pro Maz). I haven't found a version stating it's for the Pro Max. The Pro Max doesn't appear in my searching. Any suggestions? Bill - N6GHz
