Re: Import From Source missing from Radio Drop down
You were apparently looking at a video that was using classic CHIRP (whose development and support was ended in the beginning of 2023). CHIRP-next does not have this feature. You query into a new generic tab and then copy-and-paste the memory rows as desired from the generic tab into a tab that is specific for the radio intended to be programmed.

Import From Source missing from Radio Drop down
All,
?
Thanks for the add to the group.
?
When I click on the "Radio" tab I don't see "Import from Source" only Query Source. Is there something I'm missing? I have the latest version of CHIRP installed and I have created an .img file for my radio (ICOM 2730A).
?
Thanks,

Re: ICOM 2730A Programming before connecting to radio
Yes, you can populate a File->New tab at your leisure and save it to a csv file for future editing if desired. When you're ready to load it in the radio, connect the cable and first 'Radio->Download from radio' to get the current radio image. SAVE IT!!! to a meaningful file name e.g. ic-2730_default.img which one should always save and keep as is. Then copy the csv tab data and paste them into the img tab, adding it or over-writing as you choose. When finished, save the img tab to something like ic-2730_20250301.img and then 'Radio->Upload to radio'. When successfully uploaded, disconnect everything and test the radio. Now you can make any future desired edits to the new img file before uploading. On Sat, Mar 1, 2025, 12:23 loumickie via <loumickie=[email protected]> wrote:

ICOM 2730A Programming before connecting to radio
I'm new to using CHIRP and I will admit I'm struggling with this software.
?
I have an ICOM 2730A which has the base unit mounted in the trunk of my car. Can I setup all of my repeater info into the various memories before I connect the programming cable from the computer to the radio?
?
Hope that makes sense,

Assuming that you have everything connected up properly... This is a common problem for USB-to-Serial converters used with Windows that are manufactured with a Prolific type chip. The Windows Device Manager application should indicate which chip it is.?

The driver that gets automatically installed by Windows is incompatible (a case were being "up-to-date" is not what you want). You have to download, install and manually install the older Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver to enable a working connection.
?
Keep the driver hands because you can guarantee that Windows will take it upon itself to upgrade you driver with the latest available, the connection will no longer work and you will have to repeat the process again (and again, and again). To end this driver dance with Windows you would need to replace the programming cable (or if you are handy, the module on the USB end of the programming cable) with on that contains a chip from a different chip vendor (FTDI {highly recommended}, Silicon Labs or WCH).
?
The Miklor website has a link to the driver and instructions for manually selecting it.

Re: Chirp runs unexpectedly when USB thumb drive icon is clicked in Ubuntu Unity interface
Hi Andy. I'm not exactly sure what is happening on your PC, but I run Ubuntu MATE 24.04.1 on this end. I'd suggest checking to see which application?you have set to open the file-type for the USB drive's icon on your desktop. You should be able to right-click the icon and look at the?properties, or, the "Open with another application" setting in the drop-down menu. It should show that it is pointing to Nautilus, Caja or whichever file manager is default on your system. If it is NOT, then you can change it there and amke?sure to check the box telling the?OS to "Remember this application?for ...". I hope this helps. I'm not?a guru with Linux, I've just been using it for a long time. 73, Mike/KY6MM On Wed, Jan 15, 2025 at 11:13?PM Andy S via <kb1oiq=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Chirp runs unexpectedly when USB thumb drive icon is clicked in Ubuntu Unity interface
Andy,
?
Maybe someone here can help you, but be aware that this is a peer-to-peer help group and we're not officially connected to Danplanet.net or the official bug reporting site for CHIRP.?
?
We don't have many Linux users here. I run it occasionally but I haven't for a while.?
?
I know you probably will balk at this, but have you tried to run the new CHIRP under WINE or Crossover? I used to beta test for Crossover and for the programs I tested under it, they worked about the same as in their native Windows environment. Wine has come a long way, and now there's not a lot of difference between WINE and Crossover. Crossover shields one Windows program from another in separate "bottles," but WINE might be doing that nowadays, too.?
?
Anyway, you can wait to see if a Linux user here might be able to help you, but I'd poke around on the CHIRP site to see if there's another way to report your issue to the official bug report channel.?

Hi Rick, CHIRP has been running on Windows 11 since it was leaked prior to its official release. Just to be sure I, I went ahead and fired up my Windows 11 machine and installed the latest CHIRP-next. As others have reported, there are no issues.
?
It is hard to diagnose the issue without access to the debug.log. Bet I can think of a couple of things that you might try. First I would go to the Windows 11 Control Panel and uninstall CHIRP if it is listed. For good measure, reboot your computer. I would go the the chirpmyradio.com website and download the latest CHIRP-next to a convenient place on your computer. As of this post 20241220 is the most recent build. In the Windows File Explorer navigate to where you have saved the CHIRP download. Right-click the file and choose "Run as administrator..." to begin installing CHIRP. Follow the prompts (I usually take all of the defaults) until CHIRP is fully installed. That should do it. |

May I suggest a search of the group archives, as I recall something similar recently. On Mon, Dec 23, 2024, 17:21 Richard Lawn via <rjlawn=[email protected]> wrote:

I recently upgraded to Win 11. I also just updated Chirp to the latest and it won't run. When I open it it ends up in the tray and I can't do anything with it. I also tried opening it as an administrator and still no luck. Is this a Windows 11 issue or
is there some magic I need to do to get it out of the tray?
