Import CSV file to make objects 7
I don't seem to be able to find this anywhere but then again I'm getting old. LOL I'd like to import a CSV file that includes an object name, description, and lat/lon to YACC and have the items show up as objects on the map. I looked at the 'Load' menu but didn't see anything that would help, how would I go about doing this?

next beta build#202 of YAAC, cerated 2024-Sep-07 5
next beta build#202 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2024-Sep-07 downloadable from https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAAC.html or https://sourceforge.net/p/yetanotheraprsc changes and updates include: 1. fix hanging condition in marineports plugin's NMEA0183-over-TCP driver (library code in core YAAC contributed to the problem). 2. fix some incorrect Javadoc comments in the source code. 3. stop rendering locally-created APRS Objects on the map when displaying Objects is conditionally suppressed in a YAAC display. 4. fix Edit Filter dialog so that red dot on tabs will appear initially if a filter on that tab is already restricting the packets and stations viewed. 5. fix sorting problems on View Local Objects table. 6. conserve storage in imported OSM way files where the Way is identified as being some sort of amenity type instead of a road or waterway. 7. fix message content filter UI to not place the controls for setting ambiguity bounds off the screen. 8. fix recognition of some non-standard OSM amenity type values when importing OSM data into YAAC. 9. add support for the OSM Boundary type "timezone" and the Emergency type "water_rescue_station". add more OSM amenity types from allowed value additions to the "man_made" and "building" keys. 10. fix OSM import processing when multiple tags provide amenity type values and/or the provided values are multiple for a single tag. 11. improve error messages from the JSON message parser when a JSON source is providing invalid JSON text. 12. fix versioning error for persisted routes in dynamic objects plugin. UNFORTUNATELY, this is not backwards-compatible, so you will have to manually delete the old persisted routes from the $HOME/YAAC/routes directory, and re-load them into YAAC. But now you will not have issues from further updates to the dynamicobjects plugin. 13. make Ant build.xml file for the ms150utils utility consistent with other build.xml files in YAAC, having the default target of PACKAGE to build everything in the module. 14. remove use of the dated.tile.dir override Java property, and allow the user to select from the GUI older available versions of the imported OSM data in case of incompatible YAAC structure version or OSM database vandalism. 14. add logic to allow recreating all window menus when a plugin is installed. 15. add logic to permit removing menu entries for simplified training version of YAAC (training plugin not yet written). 16. on tile downloading dialogs, don't enable the "refresh all tiles" checkbox unless there are existing tiles to refresh (preventing user complaints they never got any tiles downloaded). 17. improve OSM map searches for propagation obstructions. 18. support enlarging the size of the ID field for OSM Ways to prepare for future growth in way ID numbers, rather than having incompatibility in the future. 19. fix help lookup code to support possible help file locale plugins. 20. merge Uri DO7HBL's corrections to the German locale translation of YAAC's UI text. 21. fix OSM rendering of islands in the ocean. 22. fix logic errors in AREDN Objects plugin, fix interconnections view to not scroll the left-column node names away when scrolling horizontally. fix race conditions in the AREDN plugin. 23. upgrade Apache compress and POI libraries to latest versions. 24. fix the demo plugin so changing the sequence of slides actually will update the running demonstration without having to stop the demo or YAAC itself.

No Beacon 3
I running YAAC after a long while for the yearly bicycle event. I noticed when I select BCN after was able to update YAAC it will not transmit a beacon. I checked the normal suspects but cannot get it work. My packet engine is direwolf running as a Kiss TNC. I also have tried sending APRS messages too and on this I see the RF go red but nothing is transmitted. What are the common reasons YAAC will not beacon to help find my error. Tim KM4ESU

beacon button remains grey 2
Hello! It looks like I have direwolf and the latest yaac set up correctly. no error messages. i have configured both tcp-ip and agwpe ports and connected my HT via cable to the audio input/output of my laptop. I am running windoz 10 for this exercise. The beacon button remains grey. What have I missed? Also, when I zoom out on the map, the tiles are not filled in. See pic below: how can i get yaac to fill in the tiles so that i can view a larger map area? thanks in advance for anyone's help. vy 73 david sv0sgs

Watching marine traffic (was: Re: [yaac-users] What a coooooool tool!!!)
Jamie, The capability of AIS tracking in YAAC already exists. You will need to use DireWolf 1.7 or later, configured to use the AIS modem instead of the AX.25 packet modem, and connect it to a radio capable of tuning the appropriate VHF marine channels and providing direct discriminator tap-off for wide-bandwidth audio (all of this is written up in documentation provided with DireWolf). Then in YAAC, you install the AISDecoder plugin, and connect YAAC to the AIS-configured instance of DireWolf the same way you would to an AX.25-configured DireWolf instance using a AGWPE or KISS-over-TCP port type. Received marine vessel transmissions will now be mapped into map objects conceptually the same way ADS-B frames are mapped to aircraft symbols, and a new choice on the View menu will display a tabular list of all tracked vessels. There is no reason (other than the amount of memory, CPU power, and USB connections on your computer) why you can't use the ADSB plugin and the AIS plugin simultaneously. Hope this helps. Andrew, Just in case no one has said it, you make a really cool tool. I've had to fight it a little bit, as I am sure it's me or something I am doing, but I always seem to get it working.... And man is it cool! Weather enabled!! ADS-B enabled!!!! RF TNC Enabled !!!!!!!! APRS-IS Enabled !!!!!!!!! Custom objects created! For those wanting to check it out!!!! http://44.31.200.6:8008/ Andrew, thank you man!! Big shoutout to Jason, KM4ACK for doing a demo on this to my club!

public thanks to Uri DO7HBL
I want to thank Uri for doing the tedious and (before now) thankless job of correcting my lousy German/Deutsch translation of the YAAC UI. His work is much appreciated, and will be included in the next build of YAAC. Uh, did I get the APRS symbol types correct, or are they incorrect or lousy grammar as well? Map edits for OSM 12
I have been trying to find out why a major lake in my area does not appear on the maps in YAAC. Finally found it by zooming in to 0.5 km scale and discovered it is an 'amenity' because it is associated with the power plant. On OSMs website it appears as a lake and at the reasonable scales..not apparently tagged to the power plant that I can tell. How can I change the scale at which the lake appears (ie higher scales) without having every amenity in the area appear as well? -- Mark Lindsey KD6AKC Fauquier County, VA USA

Station/Object List for Heard Stations 5
I'm trying to get a file with all of the heard objects/stations, but the "Save Objects File" on the listing only saves the objects that I've loaded, not the ones that have come in over APRS-IS. Is there a way to save the incoming station/object data? Thanks -- Mark Lindsey KD6AKC Fauquier County, VA USA

SSL-Authentication 3
Hi YAAC seems to be working OK as an APRS beacon so I have started to get it to work as an I-Gate First I had a good read at the Help files below. I-Gating Tutorial for YAAC Configuring an SSL-Authenticated APRS-IS Port Authenticated Messaging in YAAK I decided to use SSL-Authentication. I have a valid LoTW callsign certificate for GM4NFI I saved a copy of the Callsign Certificate as GM4NFI.p12 as described above. In YAAC I go to View->Authentication Keys->Import Key I name the key GM4NFI Navigate to where the file GM4NFI.p12 is saved. Filter for .p12 files Import the Key So far so good. I now have a listing Name gm4nfi Type Private Callsigns using this key its blank (I would think my callsign needs to be added?) From View I can see details of my certificate(s) see below 3 valid certificates appear - all have my callsign and all have valid dates. Not sure why I have 3 I thought it should only be one? But when I try to Associate Callsigns the button is "greyed out" and cannot be selected. I can't associate any callsign with the certificate. Now if I go to File->Configure->Ports I have 2 ports Port 1 is Enabled APRS-IS euro.aprs2.net Port 3 is Enabled Serial_TNC /dev/ttyS5 (this is working fine) I select Port1 all seems fine but Transmit is Disabled and greyed out. Now if I generate a APRS-IS password from my callsign then it can be enabled. I thought either an APRS-IS password or SSL-Authentication but not both? From the Help "Private/public key pairs can be used as an alternative to the insecure APRS-IS passcode to authenticate YAAC to the APRS-IS Tier 2 backbone, using the SSL-APRS-IS port type. Only key pairs used for the ARRL Logbook of the World and certified by the ARRL's Certificate Authority are acceptable." I suspect the issue is due to not being able to associate my callsign with the key. I can't find anything in the Help about the above. I have now upgraded to YAAC 14 July 2024 version but Associate Callsigns button is "greyed out" Any advice? 73 Dave GM4NFI Below a dump of my callsign certificate (why 3 entries?) Digipeater - YAAC or Direwolf? 3
We are going to use APRS for an upcoming event, so I will be setting up a portable station at the event control center to display the APRS users on a big screen. I also want to use that station as a digipeater, as digi coverage in the area is poor. I've not fooled with setting up digipeaters before, so all is new to me. The portable station will be using either a RaspberryPi or Quadra computer running YAAC and Direwolf modem. Is there a configuration for YAAC to handle the digipeat function, or should that be set up in Direwolf? Any good guides or tutorials? Thanks -- 73, Michael WA7SKG "Any day you do not learn one new thing is a wasted day."

Windows 11 Parallels 3
I finally installed YAAC on a pc (Parallels) and I dropped the file into a Ham file. I double-clicked the YAAC.jar and nothing happened except Windows asking what to open it with. Then I tried java -jar YAAC.jar in the widows command line, which did not work either. I think Java is not installed preventing the file from opening. Tim KM4ESU

Testing a TNC 220 9
I am trying to get an old Paccom TNC 220 which I built from kit in the 1980's working as a KISS TNC. I am running YAAC under Ubuntu 24.04 on a dedicated PC with on "old type" RS 232 port which appears as /dev/ttyS5 The TNC 220 is working fine as a Command mode TNC using PUTTY to enter commands all seems normal working as it did in the 1980's. It has a KISS mode which I never previously needed so I am unsure how well it is implemented. I want to use it as a KISS TNC with YAAC. I set the radio and terminal BAUD both to 1200 Word Length to 8 KISS ON Restart TNC 220 lights flash in correct sequence to indicate it has entered KISS mode. I use the the configuration wizard to configure YAAC - so far so good. I add a Serial KISS TNC and configure it. /dev/ttyS5 what I was using with Putty when I use it as a command type TNC. When I press the TEST Port button a blank command window opens. If I deliberately enter an invalid/non-existant port e.g. /dev/ttyS6 (when it should be /dev/ttyS5) then I get the error "Unable to bring up Test-Port for Serial_TNC" but when I enter a correct port I get the blank command window . From this I assume indicates YAAC has detected a KISS TNC? The on-line help states the ... "Test Port" button provides a means of verifying that you have connected to the correct place; it opens a terminal window connected to the configured serial port so that you can manually test the TNC for the desired operation. To complete testing, close the terminal window." My question is "What do I enter in this window to "Manually test the TNC?" What should I see/do in this window to test that the TNC is operating correctly? There is no packet traffic in my area for it to decode. What commands should I enter in this command window to test the TNC? 73

Beacon "Comment" Question 3
Greetings YAAC Braintrust, On every APRS station that I have using YAAC as a client within the comment of the beacon there is a ",/W" in front of the text (WA5SON-2). This does not affect any of the operations of the beacon from what I can see. This text is obviously not present within the YAAC beacon tab, however I can see it within Direwolf transmit beacons which of course makes it to APRS.fi too. Anybody have information on what this is and is purpose? Here is some station information which came from the one linked above. 1) YAAC Version 1.0-beta198(21-May-2024) a) Port 1: AGWPE Direwolf Beacon: [0L] WA5SON-2>APJYC1,WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1:/123300h2957.21N/09616.88W#,/W1 wa5son@...<0x0d> b) Port 2: APRSIS 2) OS: Raspbian 11 (Bullseye) 3) Kernel: Linux 6.1.21-v8+ 73 Brian WA5SON Hockley, TX

APRS in the UK
The UK APRS frequency is 144.800. There are quite few digipeaters in the UK - I manage three of them in the southeast corner of the country. There has recently been a liberalization of the OFCOM (=FCC) regulations of amateur radio, and is now easier to get a digipeater licensed. The power limit for stations is now 1KW,, up from 400W. There is limited permission of airborne stations, making it legal for APRS equipped balloons to overfly the country. I general, the new regulations are a valuable step forward. Other users have commented on the scarcity of RF-hearable packets in certain parts of the United Kingdom, and the original poster didn't provide a more precise station location.
