Andrew P. All Messages By This Member #2508 That map is a copy of Jamie WA7JH's map window in his running copy of YAAC at his station. YAAC has a mini webserver built into it so other computers on the same LAN as the YAAC computer can see most of the information the YAAC user can see (the map, the station list, the incoming text message list, etc.). Jamie has exported that local webserver by port-forwarding through his firewall router, so anyone on the Internet can see what his station sees. Thankfully, the webserver in YAAC is small and stupid enough that it can't be used as a bot vector for attacking other systems; the worst it can do is crash YAAC from being overloaded with requests. I only included the services and the link as to show I was successful, and if I can do it, well, most others can toooooo. ? Why I have gone down the APRS YAAC rabbit hole is related to a local effort that has lots of odd requirements during emergencies. ? Here is what stands YAAC out for me. Is cross platform. – Anyone can use it. It’s cross connective. – It can connect to several sources of APRS data. This could include moving to a nonstandard frequency for operation if things need to be a little less congested. It’s internet independent. – All the important features can be locally cashed to include maps. It’s voiceless. – Adding objects (downed tress or power lines, or broken water mains, etc) can be published as objects that require no voice and include lots of quick details that can be added. When the object is created (or updated), there’s a time stamp. It can have comments so that others can review them as needed. It can be modified by others or at least this is supposed to be an APRS thing, and it appears to work in some of the limited testing I’ve done. It’s relatively easy with some instruction. – One of our missions may be to have several stations preset by advanced users for configuration, but then we may ask non-technical users to use the tool (YAAC). The data it can include. - ?Imagine for a moment the desire to track resources and while currently using AX.25, the ADS-B add-in makes it easy to also track some aircraft. During emergencies, ones worthy of note, likely you wouldn’t see anything since they would likely be military and are not required to use ADS-B, but if we use civilian aircraft, we can see that voiceless and easy. The “lightweight web server,” That allows an EOC to have up a live view of the situational area. The IC can simply look up and see a real time picture of the affected area or areas. ? Anyway, it’s just super cool and super flexible. ? I need to find out how to track marine traffic and then see if Andrew might add that plug in.
