Re: UZ7HO Question
开云体育Hi Neil,?Network105 has a set ssid convention that we use that you can find here: www.Network105.org Otherwise, VHF packet is a free for all on SSIDs. With that said, Winlink stations seem to use? -10 alot. BPQ nodes -7, Chat -8, mailboxes and BBS -1, -4, -5. Again, nothing set in stone. Plenty of lists on the net that I promise you will conflict. :-) That's why I run a Nationwide and Worldwide Packet Directory MAP which includes frequencies, SSID, pictures and other data of packet stations. The links to the maps are on my web page. 73 de Chris Moderator ww2bsa.org -------- Original message -------- From: "Neil Preston W0NRP via groups.io" <w0nrp@...> Date: 1/14/25 3:40 PM (GMT-05:00) Subject: Re: [network105] UZ7HO Question Thanks. I was not aware of those differences.
I also see differences in the SSID extensions.... on local VHF we use -1 for mailboxes, -2 for simple nodes, -7 for digipeaters.? Which extension should I use for a simple keyboard node? --

Hope that helps. BTW suffix wise I have currently; Louis' YCK Node : -1/BBS, -4/CHAT, -7/Node, -10/RMS : 'nix : FN20vs NJ (HF) all the best and good luck,? 开云体育Good afternoon, sir. Good to hear from you. I don’t normally respond to this group but no problem. I put out a beacon through Digi. Re: UZ7HO Question
Hi, I am also in NJ area and can help test 20m kd2yck-7, beacons ever few minutes The offset is 1700Hz, in my case I run 1500 center, and +200 ISF shift and a BW of about 500Hz or less. Also perhaps add spread demodulators may help, as a lot of stations especially with older rigs can be off frequency. That allows me to switch from packet to other modes easily without having to adjust rig (ISF I do from flrig easily, just set to 200). If it's just trouble connecting/holding a link, check your ptt control times, like tx delay, etc - because sometimes audio and ptt are out sync enough to chop the packet on air, or cut off the start of a reply back if those packet level params are not good from your setup. Technically you can run Packet HF LSB or USB (inverted) but for older hardware or by convention the default is LSB mode for the rig. Some people run USB from the lower frequency upwards to run multiple modes in-same band plan. robust packet etc. BTW 20m should be good in the day, later on or overnight, try 40m 7104 LSB also, for more local stations, as 20m will probably close up, especially over winter overnight. Feel free to try to connect to my node that has various services, if you can hear it and reach it. Happy to give signal report if I do see you on air. Good luck, all the best, Louis / kd2yck On Tue, 14 Jan 2025 at 13:12, Thomas Testa via <TMTLU3=[email protected]> wrote:

Ok thank you for your input. I am copying plenty of traffic. Like you , I am not familiar with software based packet my PK 232 is currently being repaired at Time Wave?and once I get that back, I will be trying with my TNC. I will also try to connect to your node later on today.?

Re: UZ7HO Question
开云体育Hi Tom,I’m next door to you, over in New Jersey (FN20). ?I do not have experience with software based packet, as I am running a hardware TNC. ?I’m parked on 14.105 LSB. ?These are the nodes I’ve heard since this morning (below). I would suggest looking into a similar feature on your end where you can list who was heard and when. ?If you’re decoding a few nodes, then you’ve solved 1/2 of the problem. ?If you’re decoding nothing then it could be baud rate (should be 300), tones and spacing is not set for HF (different tones on HF than VHF), or audio level, or QRM. ?What helps for me is a narrow width on the receive, not a full/wide 2400 hz, but 1200 or 800hz. ?This reduces interference from adjacent activity. My node is N1UGK-1, I have mine set to beacon every 10 minutes or so. Re: UZ7HO Question
The first things that come to mind...
?
1. Insufficient signal.? HF packet isn't very robust.? There are plenty of stations I would hear on my "heard list" that wouldn't respond to me.? Sometimes you just don't have the signal hitting their station to overcome local noise, atmospheric noise, fading, and other station transmitting on the same frequency.
?
2. PTT switchover isn't acting correctly.? I have had problems with PTT not acting consistently with certain setups.? I have never used a rigblaster but it might be an issue.
?
3. Audio levels.? Overdriving any part of the audio chain might be causing issues.?
?
Have you monitored your transmit audio on your transceiver?? Does the audio you're transmitting sound the same as the audio you are receiving from other stations?? Can you hear interference on the frequency when you are trying to transmit?? What's your transmit power?? I suggest 100w for HF packet, 20w often just doesn't cut the mustard.
