Re: Packet on Ubuntu
Thank you! I will have a look at it soon! With my current setup it's easier to have an old laptop with lack of desk space and I have been playing with Linux but definitely still have no clue what I'm doing hihi!? On Sat, Dec 21, 2024, 11:43?AM Steve K4RVA via <k4rva=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Packet on Ubuntu
Well I can't seem to attach a file today, so here are the contents of a simple direwolf.conf file to help you get started:

?
### Sabrent USB Audio IN & OUT
#ADEVICE0 0 1 #ADEVICE0 USB USB ADEVICE0 pipewire pipewire ACHANNELS 1
?
### CHANNEL 0
CHANNEL 0 MYCALL K4RVA #MODEM 300 1600:1800 5@30 B /1 MODEM 1200 1200:2200 3@30 A /1 ### PTT using Hamlib -- RIG 2 is rigctld, RIG 4 is FLRIG, RIG 2004 is direct-to-TS570D #PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532 PTT RIG 4 localhost:12345 #PTT RIG 2004 COM3 19200 FX25TX 1 TXTAIL 25 ?
AGWPORT 8000
KISSPORT 8001 ?
# Other Defaults, set these per CHANNEL
#DWAIT 0 x 10 mSec per unit = 0 mSec. #SLOTTIME 10 x 10 mSec per unit = 100 mSec. #PERSIST 63 probability for transmitting after each slottime. #TXDELAY 30 x 10 mSec per unit = 300 mSec. #TXTAIL 10 x 10 mSec per unit = 100 mSec. #FULLDUP OFF Half Duplex. ?

Packet on Ubuntu
Hey Ryan,
?
Unfortunately there are no simple instructions for setting up packet on Linux, because it depends on how your PC is connected to your radio, and what exactly you want to do with packet. But basically, you can get started with connecting to other stations by installing Direwolf and a packet terminal program.
?
?
To install Direwolf, you can either use 'sudo apt install direwolf' or you can download and compile the source code from github:?
?
Once you have it installed, you need to configure the direwolf.conf file for your system, in particular for soundcard and PTT control. I'll attached a copy of my config file to help get you started. Mine is certainly not necessarily the "right way" to do it, but it is one way. :)? Look for the Direwolf "User-Guide.pdf" either on the github site, or in the source code directory if you compiled it manually.
?
?
Next you'll need a packet terminal. An easy one to install is called Paracon, which is located here:
?
Another one is QtTermTCP, written by G8BPQ the same guy that maintains the BPQ packet radio BBS programs. I have never been able to get it to work properly on Ubuntu/Linux Mint, apparently I'm missing some libraries. But you might have better luck than me!
?
A third option is to install Wine (the Windows Emulator) on Linux and then run UZ7HO's EasyTerm in Wine. It works great, and it also includes a simple mailbox feature that the others do not have.
?
?
I hope that helps get you started, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions along the way!

HI Bob I was hopeful we might be as fortunate as we were last year when we tried 1200B.? I usually go up and listen for various CW Beacons and see if I can find some farther east. I was hearing 4 land beacons so having not checked any charts for propagation was hoping I could hear cw beacons farther east. No luck.? At least we gave it a try. 73/warren ?

Hello Marcel I almost forgot about polling on 28.135.00USB after doing a few hrs of polling? yesterday, So just got station up now at @ 20:46 Z.? I should have started up earlly this AM because I think there is a 3 hr difference in time zones between us and? 10m drops out just before dark here. Anyways 20:46 Z is 1:45 PM PST here, so a few hrs of day lite left. :If you can hear me well enuf to leave BBS msg or connect, I have a /h that aids in posting BBS msg. I still have noise issues to deal with but 10m is much quieter than the other bands 73/warren WB7ECU

开云体育Hi MichaelSee attached as an example of a mfj1270b manual. There are dip switches on the rear panel that control the serial port speed and the radio speed….. should be covered in the manual,if not i have a couple of snips from the manual with tables of the switch settings.
