Except that it doesn't do that. The ICON on the PANEL goes to stop but the actual signal on the railroad is still clear or whatever.

By contrast, if the signal where an ABS (automatic block signal), the stop aspect would change as soon as the train exits the next block.

Locked Re: SOUND DECODERS

So are you saying that all the sounds available for a "particular Loco type" come preloaded in that decoder and can be "customized" by choices with CVs?
That certainly sounds like an acceptable option for someone like myself who is not a diehard prototypical person.
Thanks for the info.

Locked Signal mast held help #sml #signalmasts

I need some help understanding what the Held property of a signal mast does. The JMRI signalling page says nothing other than it exists and web searches turns up a few developers discussions that seem to say it either does nothing or it sets the signal to stop.

In my own testing it sets the panel icon to stop but the physical signal on the layout isn't at stop.

How exactly is the held property supposed to work?

Thanks much.

Locked Re: New user to JMRI Ops Pro requesting assistance #operationspro

Hi Pete, That seems to have worked as what I did was change the Format in Manifest Print Options to Tabular and Standard and that seems to work pretty well. I want to continue experimenting with this and just run some Trains using JMRI and see what happens as I'm still having a hard time getting my Head around all of this and have to see it at work I think to gain a better understanding. When I do get to running Trains on the layout using JMRI, must I click the MOVE button after each Town or can I wait and do this upon completion of the run?

Thank You Pete

Locked Re: logix vs logixNG #logix #logixng

Yes. All of the features have help content.

I learned Logix from the help content. I have so far been unsuccessful learning LogixNG from the help content. I'm not sure what the difference is. I think it could be that I'm a hammerhead.

Since it seems there will be no further development on Logix, I will try again - again. Moar Harder this time.

HI Guys:

Im building a new digital layout?-- this one I want to use custom loads, and also staging yards.? I am currently setting up test file in JMRI to make sure I have things right

I have East Staging -- with 3 tracks - East 1, East 2, and East 3

The first online item is Havre MT yard -- it will receive trains directly from staging via a short connecting staging.

Havre has 1 arrival, Car service, Engine service?and 8 body tracks (which I presume will have one or 2 departing trains per track)

A couple?questions -- where do the cars on the staging tracks come from?? do I pull them out of storage and line them up, and then tell JMRI that they are there?? or do they come from someplace else?

The arrival track will allow ANY train to set out cars on it, and only the yard switcher to pick up?

The body tracks allow only the yard switcher to set out and the departing train to pick up

Does this look correct? -- any suggestions how do make this run smoothly?

Thanks
TIM

Locked Re: SOUND DECODERS

SoundTraxx Tsunami decoders are ordered based on the type of loco you have, EMD, GE, Alco, etc. ?each decoder will have several prime mover choices, several bell and horn types, several headlight types, etc. ?These options are selected by changing CVs or in the case of using JMRI, through a plain English (or your chosen language) menus once JMRI has read the decoder information. ?It is important to order the correct decoder for your locomotive because you cannot change a SoundTraxx GE decoder to EMD for example.

Locked Test version 5.3.6 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download #announcement

Test version 5.3.6 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download.

This is the next in a series of test releases that will culminate in a production release, hopefully in Summer 2023. It's really helpful when people download, install and use these test versions so we can find and fix any inadvertent new problems early.

We're getting close to the end of the development series, so we'd appreciate feedback on whether or not this release works for your layout.

If you are currently using JMRI 4.99.10 or earlier, there is an update process that we strongly recommend. See the release note section on updates:
<>

For more information on the issues, new features and bug fixes in 5.3.6 please see the release note:
<>

Note that JMRI is made available under the GNU General Public License. For more information, please see our copyright and licensing page.

The download links, along with lots of other information which we hope you'll read, can be found on the release note page:

Locked Re: How to identify correct decoder in loco #soundtraxx

David,

The link I'm including is to a Soundtraxx document that discusses how to use CV values to
identify their decoders. Even if the version of your JMRI/DecoderPro installation is out of date,
you can manually read the CV's and make a determination yourself.

Note that newer decoders tend to have the ability to identify specific decoder versions in great
detail, while older decoders (when the need wasn't quite as well known or manufacturers didn't
always pay close attention to these details) will only identify down to a "family" of decoders.

Hope this helps.

Everything I do is geared towards operations. So my comment should have said “ with the popularity of this thread hopefully the brains behind the programming will add more features to allow operations to be more efficient and more automated with car/train location updates”?

Locked LCC Network Tree sorting #lcc

5.2 JMRI LCC CDI appears to not sort LCC Nodes correctly for Name or Description?

Name sort seems tripped up by the Node address field for the seven nodes currently used: ?Nodes numbered 02.01.57.11.00.xx sort alpha, THEN followed by the ?five 02.01.57.00.05.xx sorted alpha.
Description fails to sort alpha correctly with no apparent pattern, but always the same pattern.
I cannot imagine the cause for such behavior. Our layout will eventually have some 30 Nodes, and we are relying on a Name sort to group related Nodes together. Has anyone else tried sorting by Name or by Description?

Thanks for feedback on this.

Locked Re: How to identify correct decoder in loco #soundtraxx

As well as checking the part, also look at the version of your
DecoderPro/JMRI. The loco you have may be newer than your DP version and do
can’t be expected to know about it. Current JNRI is 5.2 or test 5.3.5.
Note to the 5.0 and above need Java 11 and not Java 8.

Locked Re: Locomotive programming using Decoder Pro problems

I haven’t used my programming booster in years. ?With newer decoders, i get better results without it. ?As others have said, let decoder pro read the decoder through a roster add and then look at the matched items. ?Sometimes multiple options show up within a brand/series of decoder that enable options like ditch lights, etc.

Locked Re: SOUND DECODERS

If you are looking st ESU equipped locos and want to change sound files, then you will need an ESU LokProgrammer to change the sound files. ?As well, some of the paging for CVs in ESU decoders gets very complicated, and a LokProgrammer makes that easier. ?The LokProgrammer does not connect to a DCC system so one less interface, you can also test the engines with its built in engine driver. ?

I am in HO and prefer to deploy Soundtraxx Tsunami2 decoders where ever possible, and Decoder Pro is a champ for programming these. ?My best days are working on locos with DecoderPro and Tsunamis.

FWIW – some decoders use the speaker as the load for CV read back.? IIRC, the Tsunami uses the speaker; I’d expect the Tsunami 2 to also use the speaker.

This might be so old there is not a proper set of features in the decoder. Early decoders had some odd feature sets before things settled in.

I would suspect that what you thought you read is actually rubbish. If the description of your setup is correct, you cannot read cv values. You can program on the main, but the program track won't do anything useful for you.
