Locked Re: WiThrottle viewing turnouts

Robin,

So to recap. Only tested with iPhones as no ones with an Android has been around when I am here.

I only get User TO and a handful of turnouts instead of our hundred.

I checked preferences under WiThrottle and turnouts are checked.

Below is what I got after starting my throttle.

12:41:20.947: [BB 56 00 12] Request data/status for slot 86.
12:41:21.029: [E7 0E 56 73 64 55 00 47 00 41 0A 6E 42 22] Report of slot 86 information:

Master supports LocoNet 1.1; Track Status: On/Running; Programming Track Status: Available; STAT2=0x00, ThrottleID=0x42 0x6E (8558).

David,

Sorry to hear the problem showed up at the open house :( Did you try
closing and restarting the WiThrottle app on your phone by any chance? Just
a thought. Anyway if the problem is reproducible you might want to grab the
JMRI system console output so we can see if there are any errors reported
there.

Robin,

At our open house Saturday no one had an android phone so I couldn't see if
it was across both devices.

David,

Hi. Is this problem just when using the iPhone WiThrottle app or does it
happen in Engine Driver also?

We have done something where we don't see all the turnouts. It shows TO User
and about 10 of the hundred turnouts.

I have looked in preferences etc and i am stumped.

Ok.. I'll do that, I'm not near the setup right now.

It does appear that it might be the whole of JMRI is slowing down and it's the route selection that shows it the clearest.

Scott,

Yes it did.

We are going to need to see the panel xml file. Please upload it to the ProblemsBeingWorkedOn folder.

Bob,
Thanks for your response. The manual that came with the device was not helpful. I got it here:
Vehanster Wi-Fi Smart Socket Outlet Compatible with Alexa , US Plug, Turn ON/OFF Electronics from Anywhere(3 Pack)

I'll tinker around with it when I get home. If I can't find anything better, I'll try port 80.

I've been playing a little more and it appears to slow down over time, not depending on how many times the points have been changed.

You can meet a (downunder) JMRI developer at the New England Convention 2018. I'll have a clinic table there. Gerry Hopkins will also have a clinic table and do a presentation.

Thanks Spuds McCat.... but I do not understand your suggestion... where is
that switch? Also, how is this any different from using mast logic without
a virtual mast down the wrong way where a thrown switch shows red in any
case? I am trying to get a yellow aspect when thrown- but thanks to Dave I
have managed this (cheers Dave!) using virtual masts, but I am intrigued by
your solution.... John

Different model devices use different approaches. A lot of them use port 80,but some use slightly different commands over the link.

Do you have a link to a manual for the device you¡¯re using?

The script needs the ip address and port number of the smart socket. I know the ip address of the smart socket but have no idea how to find the port number. Anyone have any ideas?

The PTB-100 is NOT the problem.

The PTB-100 is required with older Soundtraxx decoders based on the
Tsunami (Tsunami and Soundcar). But not required when working with the NEWER
technology of the Econami and Tsunami 2 decoders.?? These decoders can
encounter issues with the PTB-100, worse offender is the PowerPax as he
is notorious
for affecting the programming of the NEWER decoders.

But the PTB-100 will not cause the issues you are currently
encountering.? and I see have resolved.

You're right....I also got?the Massoth 123 reading when I tried?to get JMRI to read a "new loco" when using a simple Soundtraxx sound car decoder on the programming track.
So, I just went to my train area, turned on my computer and?found the Windows help under?the Preference window.? Some of the?"Defaults" were on "Internal"and not all in Loconet as you show.??I have removed them all and placed them in LocoNet....IT NOW WORKS!?? Marc, you're a genius...ha, ha.? Thank you for finding out my problems.? I can now control on and off with my DCS50 and tested the CV's to make sure I could get the correct reading...OK.? I was also advised to remove the PTB100 as Soundtraxx recommends not using it for the Tsunami 2's and the Econami (which I use a lot).
What I don't know is how my computer got to this weird point to begin with.? I installed 4.10 about a month ago, but just started using it again last week in my modular club meeting.? We could not get a simple Sound Car to work and this is why.??
Thanks too to Dave and Gerry and everyone else who answered me with my requests.? Hope I can return the favors someday.
Have a good weekend guys and thanks.??

Yes I saw that information in your post.

The error reading the program track is because the Command Station is NOT reading the program track but going "INTERNAL"? and throwing you
it's default decoder ' Massoth 123...? It will do that when the PReferences are on a "Simulator" or the DEFAULTS are pointing to "INTERNAL"?

I am very surprised to see this pop up with a Locobuffer-USB...? (which I also have).

So your PREFERENCES show what ??

Defaults :

If I force PREFERENCES, DEFAULTS for the Service Programmer on to INTERNAL,? this is what I get :?

John,

Seeing a report of an error where Loconet / Internal conflict without
the Digitrax PR3 present is surprising.? This Loconet versus Internal
is seen quite often when the Digitrax PR3 is selected as the interface,
and worse when selected as Standalone Programmer.

I am running JMRI 4.11.3 as well with both a Locobuffer-USB and the
Digitrax PR3 and the only time I encounter the Internal/Loconet mish-mash
is with the PR3.? One tell tale symptom? is a continually appearing
window that DEFAULTS are set wrong when we view Preferences.

So can you check your preferences and confirm the PR3 is not selected.

Hello,
I'm having some difficulties after recently upgrading to 4.10 just
after the new year.
+ Computer make and model - HP Compaq 6220
+ Computer Operating System - Windows 7
+ JMRI version installed - 4.10
? + if you just upgraded, from which version - 4.9?(I think)
+ JAVA version installed - 1.8
+ Interface device (if any)
+ DCC system in use - Digitrax DCS50

USB 2.0
+ Com port in use (if any) - COM5
+ Baud Rate settings (if known)
+ Specific details of your difficulty, including error messages if
any...
?I am suddenly having issues with:
- Trying to read correct CV's and change CV's using my JMRI and power
system (have been doing this successfully for 3 years now).
- Could not?change sound levels or type of sound on?a new
Soundtraxx?Sound Car decoder.? I use Programming Track.
- I noticed that the ON/OFF light on the JMRI screen showed "Unknown",
and when I tried to change it,
?????????to "On" (green) or "Off (red) using my "power" on/off button
on my throttle as it has always done in the past, it did not take it.
The light did not change ???????? and "Unknown" was still
illuminated.??I had to move the curser to the box and then click to
get ON or OFF.
- When I put a Soundtraxx decoder on the track and went to "Read New
Loco", it read some other decoder that I had never heard of:? Massoth
Elektronik, Gmbh???
- The Loconet "box" keeps popping up everytime I go into JMRI.? I have
saved it each time, but it comes up again and keeps asking if I want
to save it or deleate it.

I have been reading some group remarks today about issues with the
4.10, yes?? Should I go to the next level...4.11, or?do I need to
revert to an earlier version than 4.10?
Your assistance is most appreciated.
John

An antivirus program has prevented the LaunchJMRI.exe file from being
installed, because it is new!

You'll have to temporarily turn off protection, or tell your antivirus
software to accept LaunchJMRI.exe.

Your installation of JMRI is now most likely incomplete (using an outdated
version of LaunchJMRI.exe) hence at least some of the error messages.

Soundtraxx say that the PTB100 is Not advised for the Tsunami 2 or the
Econami - BUT it is needed for Tsunami 1 and earlier Soundtraxx decoders
or any other sound decoder.

When using the Tsunami 2 or Econami - remove the PTB100.

Subject: Subject: Issues with latest version 4.10

Hello,
I'm having some difficulties after recently upgrading to 4.10 just
after the new year.
+ Computer make and model - HP Compaq 6220
+ Computer Operating System - Windows 7
+ JMRI version installed - 4.10
? + if you just upgraded, from which version - 4.9?(I think)
+ JAVA version installed - 1.8
+ Interface device (if any)
+ DCC system in use - Digitrax DCS50
? ? ? (the specific model, not just the manufacturer)
+ Any other DCC devices in use - Soundtraxx PTB-100 / Locobuffer -

John

These two error messages are spurious and occur if you have the NCE Command Monitor open. This has been fixed in the V4.11.x series.

This message tells me the command station didn't reply to a memory read request (an 8F command), usually because the command station interface has locked up (which you already knew).

A very difficult problem to track.

An antivirus program has prevented the LaunchJMRI.exe file from being installed, because it is new!

You'll have to temporarily turn off protection, or tell your antivirus software to accept LaunchJMRI.exe.

Your installation of JMRI is now most likely incomplete (using an outdated version of LaunchJMRI.exe) hence at least some of the error messages.

Gerry,
I've been using the PTB100 for the past 3 years and it has worked?fine?up until now.? A problem exits using the Soundtraxx "Sound Decoder".
Don't I need the PTB100 on all sound decoder programs?

Hello,
I'm having some difficulties after recently upgrading to 4.10 just
after the new year.
+ Computer make and model - HP Compaq 6220
+ Computer Operating System - Windows 7
+ JMRI version installed - 4.10
? + if you just upgraded, from which version - 4.9?(I think)
+ JAVA version installed - 1.8
+ Interface device (if any)
+ DCC system in use - Digitrax DCS50
? ? ? (the specific model, not just the manufacturer)
+ Any other DCC devices in use - Soundtraxx PTB-100 / Locobuffer - USB 2.0
+ Com port in use (if any) - COM5
+ Baud Rate settings (if known)
+ Specific details of your difficulty, including error messages if any..
- I noticed that the ON/OFF light on the JMRI screen showed "Unknown",
and when I tried to change it,
?????????to "On" (green) or "Off (red) using my "power" on/off button
on my throttle as it has always done in the past, it did not take it.?

John

Locked Re: Yahoo JMRI : Issues with latest version 4.10

Hi Marc,
I don't have the PR3 installed nor as part of my setup.? What I have is shown below:
+ Computer make and model - HP Compaq 6220
+ Computer Operating System - Windows 7
+ JMRI version installed - 4.10
? + if you just upgraded, from which version - 4.9?(I think)

+ Any other DCC devices in use - Soundtraxx PTB-100 / Locobuffer - USB 2.0
+ Com port in use (if any) - COM5??
+ Baud Rate settings (if known) N/A
Up until now, my system worked fine for 3+ years and I was able to turn?the?"ON"?or?"OFF"?button on?JMRI using myDCS50 power and throttle?connection (using the Loconet), which has a "power" on/off button.? But now when I go into JMRI, the On/Off screen?shows "Unknown", and I am not able to keep?"internal" off and "Loconet" on.?Also, when I?enter?"new loco" and put an existing Soundtraxx decoder on the program track,?it reads a whole different decoderthat is unknown to me.? It should read Soundtraxx instead.?
Any ideas??
John??

Locked Re: JMRI Throttle Problems

Mike,

Please be VERY detailed in describing the problem you are experiencing. I find myself scratching my head trying to figure out what you mean by "this prevents me from being able to re-select the engine." I don't know what that means.

If you can describe a sequence of events with JMRI, using JMRI throttles but NOT using any "Wi" devices, which causes the failure, I can attempt to duplicate your problem with my hardware. I would need to know which command station you are using and how the OpSws are set.

Also, be aware that there's something else that comes into play, related directly to a "slot status" of "idle":

After some unpredictable amount of the time, when JMRI (or any LocoNet throttle) moves a slot's status to "common", the command station may (or may not) immediately or at some later time change the slot status to "idle". But the command station DOESN'T provide any information on LocoNet that allows "interested agents" to know that it has done so. So JMRI's "Slot Monitor" won't update when it happens!

JMRI attempts to "learn" this by occasionally "polling" (reading) each slot. But it can be something like 200 seconds before it polls a slot. So JMRI's "slot manager" tool can display incorrect information about individual slot status! JMRI's code makes a "best-effort" attempt to "make it right, eventually", but this is the best that can be achieved without specific information from the command station at the time that the change is made.

Regards,
Billybob

Subject: [jmriusers] Re: JMRI Throttle Problems

Hi John & Billybob,

This morning I installed Version 4.11.3 over version 4.10 and experimented somewhat using the 'Slot Monitor' tool. This is what I found:
1. In effect, I found a 'work-around' as follows for both the JMRI throttle and the WiThrottle (iphone7): The first time I select an engine, the slot monitor goes to 'in-use' status and engine runs fine. If I use the 'Release' button, the status goes to 'Common', and I can re-select the engine successfully as the status returns to 'in-use'.
2. If I use the 'Dispatch' button, the status changes to 'idle' instead of 'Common'; this prevents me from being able to re-select the engine.
3. When using a Digitrax tethered UT4 or DT400 throttle, there is no 'Release' button and you must use the 'Dispatch' button which puts the status to 'Common' about 90% of the time, the 10% goes to 'idle'. ??

Conclusion: My thinking suggests that the software should always put the status to 'Common' regardless which button (Dispatch or Release) is used. FYI: When using the 4.10 version, I concentrated on using the 'Dispatch' button, not so much the Release button. I plan to experiment some more later this afternoon.

Thanks for your help!

Locked Lockup of JMRI

I have beenhaving a problem with JMRI locking up during operating sessions.? A dispatcher panel using Panel Pro (version 4.10+R419243ewith version 1.8.0 for Java) is used to throw mainline switches and to keeptrack of train locations using manually activated sensors.? The track diagram is on an external monitorfor a laptop (Windows 10) that communicates at 9600 baud with an NCE DCC systemhaving the latest EPROM.? A typical scenariohas the OS starting at 1:15 pm, and about 45 min later the screen locks up andJMRI does not respond.? Usually, thereare 6 to 8 trains running.? I restart thelaptop and then JMRI to get back running and things work OK until the end ofthe OS at 5:00 pm.? I have copied below someof the lines from the file for the NCE Command Monitor.? These lines are for the times right beforeand after the lockup.? The last line is when I restarted JMRI.? Can you tell mehow to prevent JMRI from locking up??Thanks for your help.
