Ken,

You can now remove cars from a train when using the web conductor. Use the "Cars" button to remove cars from the train.

Is this a bug or a feature? I haven't used NX pair so I don't know what's expected.

Hi David,
?
So far, I have determined that the NX bit of JMRI will do what I need it to. I think we have Kevin Dickerson (UK-based and a MERG member, I think, to thank for that).? There will be a few hurdles to jump - subtle little things like cancelling a route by pulling the entrance button rather than by clicking the entrance and the exit for a second time. However, it looks like LogixNG has access to most of the NX functionality, so it shouldn't be too hard.

I'll keep you posted.

If you use the web version of the Conductor, you can do this Move from your smart phone throttle. I have a video showing this if you're interested.

Dan -
?
I believe your statement:?
?
"When using the "Move" button, the train departs its first location and arrives at the 2nd, when the "Move" button is pressed again, the train departs the location, and any car set outs are now available to other trains during the build process."
?
is the answer to my question.? It is what I was hoping for.
?
Thank you very much!? I'll try this on my "Experiment" railroad to make sure, then put it into our actual model railroad.
?
And thanks to all you other guys!? More info to digest and consider for future sessions.
?
We don't use a dispatcher per se, as the club layout is somewhat large, we seldom have more than three operators, and most operators are still unfamiliar with where specific locations are.? I act more or less as a Traffic/IT Manager, and "Train Coach", helping where needed.? At the start of each session I print a manifest for each operator and turn them loose, then MOVE the train through its' work, but only TERMINATE a train when the operator brings me back the completed manifest.
?
Now that I know that using the MOVE button allows Set-Outs (and probably Pick-Ups too?) for a train en-route, that expands what we can do during a session.?
?
We're getting better at it AND having fun!
?
Best regards,
?
Clarence

Sorry the progress on this is so slow.

From the log, it looks like something went wrong with "Speeder : X73500 (DCC 7)¡± a few minutes previously. JMRI may have had a problem matching up messages from the command station, but I can¡¯t be sure.

Could you try the new installer at:

This has some improved logging to (hopefully) help me find this latest problem.

Re: Startup Gets Stuck #startup

Sorry for the delay - life interferes sometime.?
I downloaded and installed:
Zulu 17.56-ca-jre-17.0.14-iwin_i686.msi
and
JMRI5.10+Rca46bd266.exe
with no errors.
I started JMRI from Windows 11 main menu and nothing happened not even the Java Monopoly like splash screen. So I ran Installtest and got the 2 screens in the photos I have attached. The JMRI screen has an error but I don't know what it means. Any help would be appreciated.

DCC EX Semaphore or servo signals

Hi,
?
Do you know if I can use servo signals defined in DCC EX (mechanical signals contoled by a servo) in JRMI ?

I keep hoping that one of the JMRI developers who know how to do the web/phone stuff to give the portable version of conductor all the features of the screen version. While I think the current version would let the conductor ¡®move¡¯ the train, it has no edit feature to account for adding or removing cars from the manifest. The idea is being able to manage not having the right cars as either not found or finding what wasn¡¯t supposed to be there. This also would be the last step in a paperless switch list system.

Re: Manifests: Why print all at once before an Op Session? #operationspro

On the Central Vermont we build our trains in ¡°tricks¡± or shifts, where each model day is two tricks. ?The CV is a large railroad, and it may take 2 or 3 hops (trains) for a car to get from staging to destination. One move per model day simply takes too long. ?I will build the 1st trick trains and terminate them so their cars become available to move again, and then build the 2nd trick trains and terminate them. Each trick is its own op session day and may be 6 hours of running trains.
?
Each trick must complete before the next trick runs.
?
At the end of the second trick we will inventory car positions and fix them if necessary, and account for bad order or missing cars. ?Then we will repeat the process for the next model day.
?
I¡¯ve operated on a railroad where as each train completed its run notice was given to the IT department. ?They would terminate the train, updating car positions, and enabling them to build the next train or 2 with up to date car status. ?Nice, but I agree that those IT positions would be hard to fill. ?I¡¯d rather run trains.

Re: NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

Nimble......
?
Signalman uses signal commands to set aspects.? ?It uses a loco address ONLY for programming purposes.
?
You MUST set the address on an isolated track such as an off layout program track.
?
EVERY signalman is ALWAYS listening for address 9999.? If you try to program the address of a new signalman on your layout using 9999 you will reprogram EVERY signalman.? But once the new address is programmed it will work like a charm using POM.

Re: NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

I agree,? I did the same all light-its are gone. Signalman in their place.
?
Light-its good if you know the command sequence will be simple single command based on occupation or turnout

Yes, as long as each train in run in the correct order, and the "Timing" of your trains is reasonable.? Remember each operator of a train can take vastly different amounts of time to perform the work detailed in the train's Manifest.? Joe "Indy 500" flies across the layout pulling and spotting cars like no one's business. But Sam "The Snail" likes to run his train's in step 1 and takes lots of breaks!? Best IMO that a car is moved in a session by a single train. Build several trains that move a reasonable amount of cars. Call that session 1, and print and terminate those trains.? Then build session 2.? Don't run session 2 until all of the work of session 1 has been completed, or have your operators wait for a car to be delivered if the train is running late.

Re: LogixNG best way with multiple sensors #logixng

This is an extremely useful discussion. While I only want to set a few simple routes, there is no reason for me not to do it with long-term support in mind. Please let us know how you get on - it is definitely of interest. I can report back too although I am struggling to use a computer at the moment.?

Re: Manifests: Why print all at once before an Op Session? #operationspro

I asked the very same question of Steve Davis on his KCS 3rd Sub.?
He runs his PanelPro in real time.
He doesn't have a transportation manager per se.
I suspect as owner, he quietly fills that job.
?
I have a very small, three operator layout.
I envision something like Robert's Forwarder program for my ops session.
That would be build and terminate each train in the session and then print the manifests.
In a three hour session, I plan yardmaster/turn engineer to build and run two turns.
Each of the fiddle yard operators will handle SOs to customers from two turn visits.
Each operator will handle PUs from customers and leave the string for two return visits.
I would build and terminate each train ahead of time and print the lists for hand out to operators.
?
It defeats the "real time" OperationsPro aspect and no chance to correct in session corrections.
But, it maps out the entire sesssion.
Does that make sense?

While many layouts have somebody being the dispatcher, not so many have a transportation manager. I knew that many Pro Track folks did have a car manager to maintain the system during the operations.

?

With such a position, working with the dispatcher and train crews, JMRI Operations would let that person do the ¡®move¡¯ as trains were reported by the dispatcher. Errors could be corrected on the spot as cars were not found or found where they didn¡¯t belong. This person could also see if or which additional trains might be used to keep yards and industries in balance.

?

But the owner would have to figure out how to make the job appealing. It could include figuring which locos are needed and other details. But many operators only think of the throttle as the job. Anything else, they lose interest.

Re: Xnet Message queue not being send to layout #lenz #xpressnet

Hi there,
?
Many thanks again, works better, but seems not perfect, after quite a long while I got a similar problem, message added to queue but staying there.
?
?
This seems only to happen when running quite intensive use, more than 2 trains, running quite fast thus triggering sensors more often but I don't know if that's a clue.
?
Thanks for your help.

Re: JMRI won't pickup cars with trains #operationspro

Craig,
?
From your build report in normal mode, we can see at the coal mine, the train's route does says to pull 50 cars Eastbound, followed by another 5 cars "moves" Westbound.? At the main yard, you asked the program to set out "0" cars.? So we now know why no cars were assigned to the train.? You need to increase the number of set outs at the main yard to 55, if that's the number of cars your really want delivered.
?
Dan
?
4r4 Location (Coal Mine) Eastbound requests 50 pick ups, maximum train length 1,000 feet
4r7 Location (Coal Mine) Westbound requests 5 moves, maximum train length 1,000 feet
4r5 Location (main yard) Westbound requests 0 set outs
?

Re: JMRI won't pickup cars with trains #operationspro

Craig,
?
You provided a build report for your train using normal mode. We asked for "Very Detailed".? Normal mode only tells us what was accomplished, which was no cars assigned.? Very detailed tells why cars weren't added to the train.
