Date: Saturday, December 28, 2024 8:16 PM

Howdy,

After not opening JMRI for a few weeks, I tried the other day to open PanelPro (to use OperationsPro) and promptly got a completely blank popup entitled "Error Initializing PanelPro" that I had to use Task Manager to close. Have tried multiple times since and even uninstalled then reinstalled both Java and JMRI and still get the same error. I've searched this group and the manual to no avail.

Running Java 11 and JMRI 5.2 on Windows 10, afaik

Any ideas how to resolve?

Thanks,
Isaac

Locked Re: Lenz LI-USB-ETHERNET First Read On Any Page Always Times Out #lenz

I've now tried hooking up the USB connection in addition to the Ethernet connection and I'm getting the same results.??

My first question is, is there a way to change the timeout setting, so it doesn't take so long before it times out and starts reading or writing the second item?? Once it times out on the first thing it's reading or writing on the program track, it will read/write the rest just fine.
?
I also tried programming on the mainline and this works great every single time with no timeouts and no issues to report whatsoever.? This didn't make sense to me, so I replaced my programming track with some Kato Unitrack and new wiring but still get the same results on the programming track.
?
So now I do everything except a reset, address changing, and reading pages directly on the main since it never errors out, but with my Lenz 3.6 system, I cannot change the address, reset the loco, or read anything on the mainline and don't want to spend over $400 to upgrade my system just to be able to do these three things.
?
Instead, I'd much rather figure this problem out.
?
Does anyone have any further ideas?? Can I change the timeout "time" so it times out faster so I don't have to wait so long when doing things on the programming track?

Finally, what could cause writing to fail on the programming track for the first write every single time but never ever have any trouble when writing when on the mainline?

Thanks,
?

In addition to a joystick, the small (finger ring style) Bluetooth game pad controllers I use with EngineDriver have 6 buttons that are all configurable in ED.? I set one of the two front buttons to Stop and use the 4 buttons on top for F0, F1, F2 and F3.? Works great.

Peter,

Thanks for reminding me about the game pads. Years ago, I purchased and used those little things. Spring loaded switch. Up is forward, down is reverse. My issue with them was getting them to stop the loco completely like a potentiometer knobbed throttle would do. James¡¯ idea with the BT knob would be perfect if it was a pot type and not encoder style. A BT center off toggle switch for the direction (like the UT4) would be great but can you use 2 BT devices on one device at the same time? Again, I¡¯m looking for the UT4 type action of not having to look at the throttle in use and using the toggle switch to control the momentum and accel/decel equipped loco while switching.?

Re: Decoderpro version 5.10 #definitions

Did you follow the procedure in the JMRI release notes on how to do the update?

Once the update is done you shouldn't need to import anything.

Re: Semaphore signals #semaphore

Response from the manafacturer.?
?

Hi Howard,

?

I assume that the decoder drive you purchased was the 4L-001-001 (or the TrainTech SC3)?

?

Forgetting JMRI for the moment, once the decoder drive is set up, it is triggered by entering the accessory DCC address on a DCC handset, and then setting the ¡®direction¡¯ left or right (or north or south in some DCC systems¡¯ parlance). So, it is expecting to receive DCC commands the same as those for a point motor.

?

I¡¯m not an expert with JMRI as I have only used pat of it (DecoderPro) for creating a library of loco decoder settings, so I have no idea what the ¡°NMRA Extended Accessory Decoder¡± mode is. In my logical way of thinking, I would set it up in JMRI as a point motor, which I think you have done when you say it only works with a switch command (that is, American ¡®switch¡¯ for English ¡®point¡¯ or ¡®turnout¡¯), but maybe I¡¯m mis-reading your words!

?

The 4A-001-001 (and the 4A-001-002) can only be configured as far as setting the addresses; there are no other options available.

?

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any further queries.

?

Best regards,

Keith

Can device be?reconfigured the to use the "NMRA Extended Accessory Decoder" mode??

I've just discovered the "transparency" option for filled turnout
circles and it seems to fit my needs perfectly

Except, when I set a particular transparency, it seems to work fine for
the current JMRI session

BUT after a restart of JMRI, I have lost my transparency

And yes, I DID save the changes before I restarted

Is it possible that this is not externalised to the panel file??? I can
see where the circle COLOURS are defined as well as whether the circles
are filled or not (they are) - but no mention of transparency

One option (and I am not sure if it is possible) would be to NOT use VNC at
all and instead do SSH / X11 tunneling. This requires a SSH client and an
Xserver on the MS-Windows machine -- I don't know exactly what that entails,
since I don't use MS-Windows, but I believe both are available. I don't know
what is available for iOS, but openssh is installed by default under MacOS and
iOS is actually the same "under the hood" (both are layered on top of Darwin,
which is a BSD variant).

Just noticed something odd

I???m running JMRI 5.11.1 on a RasPi

My startup opens a panel window, the WiThrottle window and the
main PanelPro window

If I VNC in and try to minimise ANY window, they all minimise at
once. If I restore one, they all restore together

Any OTHER windows I open during aJMRI session behave
independently (as I???d expect). If I minimise one, ONLY that one
is minimised

Is this really the way it should be working or is it a quirk off
Wayland??

Thanks
